Iraq war protester says arrest won't keep him silent

"The reason this happened was they were warned, they could hold any sign they wanted as long as it didn't say 'honk' on it," Kitchen said. "They were warned a couple of weeks ago. They decided to test it, evidently."

Police Chief Michael Kitchen said . . .it's illegal to "incite people to sound their horn when not reasonably necessary."

Kittila said. . . police first approached protesters in mid-June and said the signs urging people to honk had to go because they caused too much noise. . . changed the signs to say 'Ferndale police say don't honk if you want Bush out.'"

"They didn't say anyone had been complaining, but if they were I doubt people had been complaining about honking as much as the message, Later, they said there were some safety concerns about the location, so we moved (and they still complained) ... I think it's just people are irritated that we're there. People who like us there don't complain."

After their usual protest last week. . . a Ferndale patrol car pulled up.

"(He) motioned me to come to the car, He said 'You've been warned about that sign,' and I said 'Yes, we were, but I changed it.'"

Kittila said the officer grabbed the sign, while he was still trying to get him to read it.

"I didn't immediately let it go," Kittila said. "He said 'You're under arrest and if you resist I'll Taser you ...

Kittila was booked and held in a cell for about an hour until his wife delivered $500 to bail him out. Disorderly conduct is a misdemeanor with a possible penalty of a $500 fine and/or 90 days in jail.

"People who like us there don't complain."

In other breaking news, people who like sunshine, avoid the shade.

And Peace Activists who like B.O., avoid soap.
