Pinkett Smith horrified by U.S. Values

Actress/singer Jada Pinkett Smith is horrified by increasing gun crime in the United States, declaring the country must look to third world countries to rediscover its values.

The Wicked Wisdom frontwoman and her actor/rapper husband Will Smith have travelled to Africa on several occasions for charity work and have been humbled by citizens' appreciation of the basic things in life - like education.

The Smiths will fund and appear at Charles 'Charlie Mack' Alston's annual Party 4 Peace in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this weekend, which aims to raise awareness of street crime.

Pinkett Smith says: "It's pretty bad everywhere. I think we're in a worse situation now than I can think of ever. Just the amount of injustice that we're doing to one another. It's such a complicated issue.

"It's an epidemic. If you look at our homes, it's clear why. We need a new reality. The idea that we're supposed to sit back and wait for somebody to do something for us, that's not going to happen.

"I've gone to Africa where kids go to school and share one textbook, (I've met) kids that are walking three miles to school, three miles home because education is valued. What do we value? Nothing.

I believe Johannesburg South Africa has become unlivable, with up to 20 murders daily, mostly by guns. Or is she talking of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast or the Congo, where she would be "humbled" by the remarkable vioence of machete-wielding gangs on the streets. Perhaps that is the "African paradise" that this yet another chronic complainer (and grotesquely overpaid Hollywood dimwit) is referring to.

Yeah, because, y'know, Johannesburg is SO DAMN SAFE these days. Give me a break. There's probably people in J'burg that would like to move to South Beirut and get bombed by the IAF because it's safer.

Yeah, guess Darfur wasn't on her itinerary.

Another former rapper (Ice cube or Ice T) made a movie about South Africa a few years back. It portrayed S.A. as a violent drug addicted society largely controlled by drug lords.

"(I've met) kids that are walking three miles to school, three miles home because education is valued"

I walked about 4 miles not because I "valued" my education but because I valued not getting my behind whooped if I ever skipped out.

Understanding the rest of her philosophy would require narcotic use.

OK -- mea culpa -- Smith may seem like a nice guy but, after googling, I was way off in suspecting he might be a closet conservative.

So apparently Pinkett-Smith had no problems with guns when she starred in "The Matrix Reloaded."

Which is all hyperbole.

Yes, there ARE problems in RSA; however, Zimbabwe is far worse...so are parts of California.

No, Smith unfortunately is a leftist pinko, just like his idiotic wife.

"It's pretty bad everywhere.

I just left my house for the first time.

I think we're in a worse situation now than I can think of ever.

Your frame of reference is what? Your ignorant secluded lifestyle.

Just the amount of injustice that we're doing to one another.

What's this "we" crap sister? I don't own a Machete and I am not a third world thug. Speak for yourself.

It's amazing how many of these submorons go to Africa and they can't believe what they see. It's there and it has been this way for a long damn time. It will be that way until someone kills a lot of bad people and tribalism is a thing of the past.

Yes, we must lookm to South Africa (flaming tires aroud the neck); Ethiopa (starvation and forced slavery) and Liberia (civial war and wholesale slaughter).

Yes, she is correct. Africa is the lodestar by which we must guide our ship of state.

She's very cute. But, very stupid.

Hey, if she and her husband can't stand life in America, they can live in Africa. No one is forcing them to stay here.

"I've gone to Africa where kids go to school and share one textbook, (I've met) kids that are walking three miles to school, three miles home because education is valued. What do we value? Nothing

Does this mean she’d like to cut education spending?

Basically every third world country is poor because of the corrupt governments that reward a very few at the expense of the many.

I have no doubt she is an ignorant liberal.

That said, there is loads of room for misinterpretation of anything she may have said here. What did she say? All I can gather her is that she said basically that people don't treat each other right, and that when you have nothing, you appreciate the really good things.

My Mom grew up in the dustbowl, and had school in a one room schoolhouse with 7 other kids. She had two dresses, period. One Christmas her father made a checkerboard for the family by slicing up a broom handle.

Nowadays she has the best priorities and values of anyone I know. She says to me, "I'm happy anywhere". And she is, God bless her.

She's racist.

When she speaks "I think we're in a worse situation now than I can think of ever." she is talking about persons of her skin color.

I read a book a couple of years ago, called "Out of America". It was written by the man who was the Washington Post Bureau Chief for Africa for ten or so years. He described one of the most bizarre things I've ever read about. Much of the clothing in Africa comes from US care packages. Frequently, the Africans don't know or care whether clothing is meant for boys or girls. They also get surplus toys, which sometimes include Halloween masks. He described eleven and twelve year old boys, drugged and armed with panga knives and rifles by tribal leaders, wearing evening gowns and Donald Duck masks wiping out small villages in the middle of the night.
