Al Gore warns of pole shift

Al Gore warning of the dangers of the impending pole shift

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore has been touring the world and making presentations of an impending global pole shift.

"The world is in a greater danger now than ever before", Mr. Gore said, "and the time for us to take action is drawing short".

"Any time between now and the year 2012 the earth will shift on its axis, causing massive flooding, worldwide suffering and death."

Mr. Gore also urged action on the part of his audiences, including massive migration of humans from one continent to another to shift the load on the earth and bring it back into balance.

"This truth might be inconvenient, but future generations are counting on us to take action now", he insisted, "and much better to relocate your home now than for your children and grandchildren to lose theirs in the future".

Mr. Gore has also been promoting his newest book, Earth Coming Unbalanced.

You guys seem pretty misinformed. There's *lots* of evidence and a pretty strong consensus on recent GW -- though the radical descriptions Gore makes may be...more radical than most scientists might predict.

Calls for "proving" GW are a tad strange -- when there's an even moderate chance we're influencing the environment adversely, shouldn't we take it seriously? Ozone. Lake pollutants. Inviting foreign species into a new ecology (many many examples long throughout history turning resources to dust). There are many examples where we should have been more careful.

That's all very silly. And hypocritical, frankly. Your statements are about as radical as the radical statements of Gore that you attack.

How are his claims "absurd"? You don't even give an example. That's a shame.

Both parties are opportunists. Need I give a list of recent Republican examples? Schiavo. Flag burning. Minimum wage + estate tax. I could go on...

Both parties do this. Give me a break. Stop partisanship.

The pole up his arse appears to be shifting.

If the earth's pole wants to shift, I don't see how us piddly humans can cause or prevent that.

Gore is an ass.

CRAPOLA!

I ain't goin' anywhere till there's some more sense in these posts.

I think most of these comments have substance only on remarking on Gore's girth.

That's a shame, and pretty childish. Coulteresque. Frankenesque.

Gore is proving that you don't have to be a former president (Jimmah Cawtuh) to have your crackpot CRAPOLA taken seriously by the drive-by-media twits.

He's also proving that partisans like many of those here will only respond to something with insults or unbacked assertions.

This is sad. I thought I'd find more substantive discussion here. I guess not. Maybe my time here will be short.

Since Al is bipolar, how would he be able to tell if the poles shifted?

Nobody has a historical database of temperatures going back several hundred years covering all points on the globe. What may appear to be warming of developed areas where temperatures records do exist could be just a slight cooling of undeveloped areas and a slight warming of developed areas. Lots of factors can affect temperatures measurements such as the amount of paving in urban areas for roads, parkings lots, and buildings. There's also a lack of historical temperature data out on the oceans and in undeveloped areas. You need satellites to measure temperatures in those places, and satellites didn't exist 70 years ago. That's why I consider the historical evidence for GW to be very weak.

Just 30 years ago, environmentalists were worried about a "new ice age", and some of those old article are posted here at FR. NY Times editorialists lack the scientific education to comment intelligently on this subject, so I won't bother reading their views, plus I seem to have lost my login cookie for NY Times.
