California is ripe for the taking by state Treasurer Phil Angelides, his senior campaign managers said Wednesday, largely because he's a Democrat.
While not a news flash given the state's history, the fact that Democrats hold a big registration edge over Republicans -- 43 percent to 34 percent -- illustrates one of the key problems facing Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in the upcoming election.
Angelides' camp believes that while the governor enjoys support among some Democrats now, by the time ballots are cast in November, the base will remain loyal.
They also believe that the opposite will occur with the Republicans because Schwarzenegger's recent move to the left on key issues such as immigration and the environment has alienated conservatives.

I hope that REAL conservatives will NOT do such an unforgivable thing.
REAL conservatives would not get near this Marxist, tax mad leftist. He makes Gray Davis look like a boy scout in many ways...
Far to many of them sat on their arse's last November, culd have done some good, but screwed it up.
Some things to consider:
CALIFORNIA VOTER AND PARTY PROFILES
http://www.ppic.org/content/pubs/JTF_VoterProfilesJTF.pdf
"The Democratic Party currently has an advantage of 1.4 million voters over the Republican Party (7.1 million to 5.7 million) or 9 percentage points (43% to 34%), according to the Secretary of State.
Among those most likely to vote in this years elections, Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 7-point margin (44% to 37%), while 15 percent of likely voters are registered as independents.
... the fact that independents are more likely to lean toward Democrats than Republicans (42% to 28%) tends to work to the disadvantage of the GOP in statewide elections."
===
Arnold needs to votes of independents/moderates and some Dems to win -- and he can only get that, as a moderate.
For those who would try to diagree -- just look at history, nobody, except Arnold has been elected to statewide office and the chances of Republicans running for statewide offices don't look very bright, unless Arnold gets elected and has coattails.

Another article showing that Angelides is counting heavily on Republicans to win:
"Angelides ... must win 80% of the Dems and a solid majority of the DTS (declined to state) registrants, TO ACCOMPANY THE 15% REPUBLICANS WHO DON'T VOTE FOR THEIR PARTY'S TICKET"

"Far to many of them sat on their arse's last November, culd have done some good, but screwed it up."

Not to mention some who actually admitted that they voted AGAINST Arnold's propositions, such as Prop. 76, which would have curtailed spending -- THEN they have the unmitigated gall to blame Arnold.
Angelides is to the left of Bill and Hillary -- who are actively fundraising for him.
They would not vote for Angeledes, but they would vote either Libertarian or AIP based on their political inclination.
but they would vote either Libertarian or AIP based on their political inclination.

And that would be a huge mistake for California, to dilute the Repub vote.
correct, they had a hammer, missed or never even saw the nail and hit themselves in the head instead, disgusting.
LOLOL.. spinning the oldies up tonight are we..
Prop 76,, that tanker,, sunk like a rock,, a 5B dollar back door borrowing clause ain't what did it tho, huh?. just more smoke and mirrors.
how many percent has the budget grown since the Gub took office? and because Prop 76 failed? LOL
No, the Gub failed to veto veto veto spending... instead he borrowed borrowed borrowed and then this year spent even more than the first 2 years.
There won't be much GOP erosion. Arnold is lucky he didn't get Westly as an opponent. Angelides will need to shed is hack boring Dem image.
(Go Israel, Go! Slap 'Em Down Hezbullies.)
Yep. Arnold has a lot of running room to swing and pander without much danger of being clipped on the right.
And ANgelides is counting on that -- fewer votes for Arnold makes it easier for Angelides to have beat him with the votes he gets.
This is insane. I don't know any so-called moderates that will vote for Phil.
" I don't know any so-called moderates that will vote for Phil."
Well, but you can see quite a few people right here, proclaiming to be conservatives, while advocating Arnold's defeat, thereby helping Angelides.
Most time what one says on a message board and what one does tend to be 2 different things. My liberal mother will not vote for Phil. I see no way he can or will win. I just don't.
Just remember the way the union spent $150 million to defeat Arnold's propositions. The same unions want Angelides elected and will pull out all the stops. It's going to be a tight race.
There was this article, that went largely unnoticed, which, in fact is very important, showing the powerful interests lining up against Arnold:
===
They're focused on the Capitol's perpetual war between business and the big four Democratic Party subfactions: labor unions, personal injury lawyers, environmentalists and consumer protection advocates.
The past two years have been bleak ones for the Big 4 because Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has aligned himself with the California Chamber of Commerce and other business groups, rejecting nearly all of the measures they had dubbed "job killers." Schwarzenegger and business, moreover, bulldozed the Legislature into approving an overhaul of worker's compensation that authorities say is reducing employers' costs by $15 billion a year. It was the most significant advance either side had made in the war in many years and one that Democrats and their allies now want to undo. "
