Hezbollah rockets kill 12 in Israel

BEIRUT, Lebanon - Hezbollah guerrillas unleashed their deadliest barrage of rockets yet into northern Israel, killing at least 12 people...as fighting only intensified despite a draft U.N. cease-fire resolution.

Hezbollah and its allies rejected the draft resolution, saying its terms for a halt in fighting do not address Lebanon's demands — in a signal that the nearly 4-week-old battle will burn on.

Hezbollah fired a barrage of rockets late Sunday on the port city of Haifa, injuring dozens of people, in the heaviest attack on Israel's third largest city since fighting began.

News reports said one person was killed, and emergency services said more than 30 people were injured. A Haifa fire department spokeman said one crowded residential district suffered five or six hits and there were many casualties.

Hezbollah fired a volley of 80 rockets at several other Israeli towns. One of them made a direct hit on a crowd of people at the entrance of the communal farm of Kfar Giladi, killing 11 people, rescue workers said. [One of the critically wounded died later, bringing the death toll to 12.]

When you consider the population of Israel as compared to the United States, each death would be like 50 to our country. In effect the Israeli casualties are in the scale of a few thousand on a proportional basis to the United States.

Hi Norm, I agree. In the days immediately following 9/11/01, while waiting for a meeting to commence at work, I and a few others were talking about nuking Mecca or something. Interestingly, a very devout and kindly Jewish manager said no, that would make matters worse. Although I understand his point of view, I don't agree with it. I think that although a well-placed nuke won't win us any friends, it will win us respect and fear. I'd much rather have the latter.

Prayers for our beloved dear friends in Israel.

I'm mentioning this only in the event other freepers are interested: I ordered from an Israeli jewelry store a Star of David necklace with a cross in the middle of the Star; it hasn't arrived yet.

Then I was discussing with my husband what I'd really like and he encouraged me to look for something like it online and if I couldn't find it, have it made. Well, after hours of searching, I found a Star of David made of colored glass (which reminds me of stained glass windows in a church) and instead of the Ten Commandment Tablet in Hebrew in the middle of the star, the jeweler in Jerusalem is going to make a star.

If anyone is interested in such an item, please freepmail me and I will provide the link and details.

And in the interim, my ongoing and most fervent prayers for safety for our loved ones and friends in Israel.

Many believe that the tribulation period will not begin until the Church has been raptured. Once that happens the 7 year tribulation begins and the anti-Christ will be revealed.

If you're a citizen of Israel, and don't have special dispensation, anyone from 18 to 50 is a "reserve soldier"

I guess that makes it OK to kill any Israeli who's between 18 and 50, since they're a soldier. Yet another thing to justify the actions of terrorists against Israel.
