Local Muslim leader reluctantly expresses sympathy over terrorist attack at Jewish Federation

Regarding the recent terrorist attack at the Seattle Jewish Federation by a Muslim man motivated by anger with Israel, a leader of a local Muslim organization sent this letter to the Jewish Transcript (published August 4, 2006). I'm underwhelmed.

It is with deep sorrow that we note the one dead and five injured people in the mindless act of cruelty by a hate-filled man. Our hearts go out in sympathy to the injured and to the families of victims.

We struggled for some time about whether a statement should be sent out or not, because we would like this to be recognized for the grievous crime that it is, rather than an event that calls for an explanation or apology by Muslims.

In the end, it was decided that we need to extend our sympathies and good will to those who were victimized by this crime because it would prevent misunderstandings between the faiths.

Muslims, Jews and Christians have been working long and hard in this area, to build relationships of respect and trust that have so far endured many tests.

We look forward to the future in which this test, too, shall be endured and people of the three Abrahamic faiths will have come closer in spite of this tragedy.

We would like to close with this hadith from the Prophet Mohammed:

"Those in whose hearts is no mercy for others will not attain the mercy of Allah." (Bukhari and Muslim)

Jeff Siddiqui

American Muslims of Puget Sound, Lynnwood

This is consistent with Siddiqui's ongoing refusal to recognize that Muslims, acting as Muslims, sometimes commit acts of aggression in the name of Islam. He seems to feel that Muslims are only ever victims, persecuted by the government and the targets of a paranoid US. But Siddiqui's letter does clear up any misunderstandings about where he's really coming from, as did his statement in Louis Farrakhan's Final Call website: "
The pro-Israeli spin doctors are in full battle-cry, sending e-mails, articles and making phone calls wherever necessary. The radio and television hosts make a great pretense of 'journalistic inquiry' as they skew their shows against the Arabs and in favor of the poor Israelis," writes Jeff Siddiqui, of American Muslims of Puget Sound, in Seattle, Wash
, not to mention his statement to the P-I the day after the Seattle terrorist attack:
Siddiqui said his organization and several other groups had announced a silent march today to demand a cease-fire in Lebanon and Palestine and to protest Israeli bombing.

That march, which starts at 11 a.m. at the Kirkland Marina and ends at Houghton Beach Park, should have no relation to the Seattle shootings, Siddiqui said.

Siddiqui seems to have difficulty acknowledging that the Muslim world suffers from violent anti-Semitic and anti-western pathologies , whether it manifests itself as airplanes flying into office buildings in New York, as a spontaneous shooting in Seattle or in the form of 3,000 rockets fired by Hizbullah on innocent Israeli civilians.

"We have held Muslims hostage to that question.

No you haven't.  You have endlessly danced around that question without ever answering it in a coherent, logical and meaningful way.

The common man in Islam is no different than the common man here.

Wrong.  We pick up the telephone and alert the police when we see obvious criminal activity going on in the house or apartment next door.  It's a concept called "being a real human being".

The common man cannot bring terrorists to justice."

Wrong again!  The 'common man' in the United States can:

And he compared it to the notion that all Italians should bring the Mafia to its knees or that common Russians should bring down the Russian mob. Just as Siddiqi sought to dispel myths about Islam, so too is the FBI seeking to dispel misconceptions about the bureau.

Ummm  EARTH TO TURD-BREATH....a twisted 'religion' that teaches it's adherents from childhood to hate and kill is NOT the same thing as being from a country that has a minor mafia problem.  Comparing apples to oranges is not the most effective way to make your point....but then again, if you don't have an actual point to make, I suppose it's the only thing available.....

Thanks for your post   :-)

Sudden Jihadi Syndrome?

I don't know if it was Jeff Jacoby's column that you were referring to, but there is an interesting item in the Claremont Institute site today that links to the Jacoby column.

The Claremont Institute The Remedy

Evidence of a Disturbing Age

It is evidence of a foolish and disturbing age when some asinine drunken anti-semitic statements from a Hollywood actor (followed by abject apologies) produce more outrage than 1) an Islamist's politically motivated murdering of a Jewish woman (and attempted murder of a whole group) in a Seattle community center or 2) an Iranian President's bi-monthly demands for the eradication of the world's sole Jewish nation, paired with a relentless drive to acquire the nuclear weapons that could make it possible.

In regard to Ahmadinejad, few things capture the absurdity better than Ramirez's cartoon for August 4th.

In regard to the Seattle tragedy, Jeff Jacoby narrows in on the issue of "Sudden Jihad Syndrome", via Rosenblog:

At a time when jihadist murder is a global threat and some of the most malevolent figures in the Islamic world -- Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hezbollah chieftain Hassan Nasrallah, to name just two -- openly incite violence against Americans and Jews, the attack in Seattle should have been a huge story everywhere. Yet after six days, a Nexis search turned up only 236 stories mentioning Haq -- one-fourth the number dealing with (actor Mel) Gibson's drunken (and anti-Semetic) outburst. Why the disparity?

No doubt part of the answer is that Gibson is a celebrity, and that "The Passion," his 2004 movie about the crucifixion, was criticized by many as a revival of the infamous anti-Semitic motif of Jews as Christ-killers. Gibson, who belongs to a traditionalist Catholic sect, was already suspected of harboring ill will toward Jews. His crude remarks on July 28 confirmed it, and pushed the subject back into the spotlight. But if previous behavior and religious belief explain the burst of interest in the Gibson story, they only deepen the question of why the Seattle bloodshed was played down. After all, Haq is not the first example of what scholar Daniel Pipes has called "Sudden Jihad Syndrome," in which a seemingly nonviolent Muslim erupts in a murderous rampage.

Just this year, for example, Mohammed Taheri-azar, a philosophy major at the University of North Carolina, deliberately rammed a car into a crowd of students, saying he wanted to "avenge the death of Muslims around the world." Michael Julius Ford opened fire in a Denver warehouse, killing one person and injuring five. "I don't know what happened to him yesterday," his sister Khali told the press. "He told me that Allah was going to make a choice and it was going to be good and told me people at his job was making fun of his religion."

Other cases in recent years include Hasan Akbar, a sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division, who attacked his fellow soldiers at an American command center in Kuwait with grenades and rifle fire, killing one and wounding 15; Hesham Mohamed Ali Hadayet, who killed two people when he shot up the El Al ticket counter at the Los Angeles airport in 2002; and Ali Hasan Abu Kamal, who was carrying a note denouncing "Zionists" and others who "must be annihilated & exterminated" when he opened fire on the observation deck of the Empire State building.

If the Catholic Gibson's nonviolent bigotry is a legitimate subject of media scrutiny, all the more so is the animus that spurs Muslims like Haq and the others to jihadist murder.

MEMRI TV was one of the filmmaker's references, I think, for Obsession.

I'd recommend that all interested Freepers send a request to Netflix or Blockbuster or Walmart (etc.). Wherever you have a membership.

here's the netflix link
http://www.netflix.com/Help?id=5145

And the IMDB link they request:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0487116/

The film is available from the official website:

Yep, that's who coined the phrase Sudden Jihadi Syndrome

What happens every time when a Muslim commits a hate crime here in the US CAIR is quick to label that particular Muslim as one who just happened to go off the deep end.. for not apparent reason, no one knows why...

*perhaps someone should find out what was being preached in their mosque

According to CAIR, none of this has ANYTHING to do with Islam, of course.  (gag)

I SINCERELY hope that our friends in the FBI and the NSA are actively monitoring every single mosque and everybody who goes in and out.

I understand that it's 1960's vintage technology to shoot a laser beam at a window and use that to listen to what's being said inside.  If they could do that nearly fifty years ago, hopefully they'll have something even more effective these days.

If they AREN'T monitoring the mosques, I have to ask where are my freaking tax dollars being spent then??  Spy on the mosques, guys!

I hope the FBI is monitoring the mosques, I suppose they are being very low key about it. All mosques are sponsored by the Saudis so they are the only religion in America that is supported by a foreign government.

It's crazy..

Our government says we are at war against terrorists but we are bending over backwards here in the US to be "sensitive" to Muslims. Political Correctness is going to kill us.

MEMRI TV was one of the filmmaker's references, I think, for Obsession.

Many of the clips used in Obsession are available for individual viewing at the MEMRI TV site.  In fact,  I posted many of them here at FR as threads when they were first released, until I noticed that the FR Overseers were moving all of my MEMRI TV threads to General Chat when they were obviously News items and I had originally posted them as such.  I lost interest in posting them around that time, which may well have been the intent of FR.

If the Obsession movie gets more people the opportunity to see those clips and so much more that's included in the movie then I will be made much happier.

Oddly enough it was through listening to him on KVI that made me lose any tiny bit of hope that I had lurking in my furry little heart that there might be some tiny bit of good in Islam, somewhere, but after hearing him and his TERRIBLY OFFENDED demeanor if anyone were to suggest that terrorism might be somehow linked to Islam in any small way at all, and his indignant "how dare you suggest!" attitude, it became apparent to me that his job is similar to the Press Spokesman for the Clinton administration....."defending the indefensible".  His job is to milk political correctness for all it's worth and to instantly accuse anybody of being a bigot and a racist who dares to suggest the slightest negative about Islam.  He is a polished spin-doctor and terror apologist who does not deserve the good fortune that our great country has given him.

Sorry for ranting    :-)

Very true, although I think that a great many people are aware of these problems, far more than the number which would have existed in the times before the internet and talk radio.  Looking at the "appeasement strategy" of the Dems gives me hope that at election time, people will see the stark differences between the "no backbone party" and the "sorta-kinda backbone party".

I'm hoping also that the great work done today by our British Friends in nabbing the scum that were going to do the terrorist action will not be lost on the British or the American public....the Brits have a far worse problem with local muslims than we do, and perhaps this will jolt them into some serious thinking and serious action about those issues as well.

Good one! A vote for us is a vote for the Sorta-Kinda Backbone Party!

I hope it's not too late for the UK, I really do. What is so surprising is how quickly things have changed over there in a relatively short time. As for the us, the US, we have a bigger population so it will take longer for any culture to try to force something like "Sharia" law on us.

I am a Latina and I have no doubt that my Mexicans would never tolerate the Muslim way of life. They are not very fun and seek to control others. We love life and we are not afraid to fight for what we believe in.

We also have a few additional advantages over the Brits....we are not as mired and hamstrung by Socialism and it's attendant psychoses as they are, and we have guns and know how to use them   :-)

I am a Latina and I have no doubt that my Mexicans would never tolerate the Muslim way of life.

I agree....it's wouldn't be received well at all   I can envision about fifty million modern Pancho Villas rising up to do battle with anybody who would try to impose sharia law on Mexico.....it would not be pretty.   :-)

They are not very fun and seek to control others.

It's true;  when I think of "a fun, friendly person" it's not a muslim who comes to mind.  They want to control everyone else because they don't have the intelligence to be able to accept different points of view....this is an advanced thought process which they do not possess.  So, in order to justify their pathetic, backward existence, they blow up and kill everyone and everything that is different from them.  They are fixated on blowing up airplanes because they are about 500 years behind the intellectual and technological level that is required to build a plane.  They are filled with resentment over our way of life, or ability to produce advanced technologies and our freedoms, and they aren't smart enough to do similar things in their own countries so they unleash their hostilities by blowing us up.  Pathetic, juvenile, and utterly Neanderthal.

We love life and we are not afraid to fight for what we believe in.

Yes.....If I wasn't such an old and scruffy stoat, I would join the military in a heartbeat.  I would love to help our country fight this menace  "sigh"

I never thought of it that way...

I do know that they, the fanatics of Islam want the world to become Dark Ages II and this is because the leaders, the Mullahs are afraid. They are afraid that too many McDonald's French Fries and MTV will awaken a curiosity within the Muslim populace. Some of them may even begin to question the origins of Islam and find out that old Mo was a fake and that their religion is a fraud.

It's definitely not a politically correct thing to say, and so you won't see it in the MSM, but it's demonstrably true nonetheless.  No Islamic culture that has not been "Westernized" in some way has produced anything that one would consider modern or advanced technology, by today's standards.  Have you flown on a Yemeni-designed and built aircraft lately?  I didn't think so..  They learn the Koran and to hate America in their madrasses and that's about it.  The muslims who excel intellectually are the ones who are lucky enough to leave that environment and become educated elsewhere.

That's all very true, I agree.  A lot of it is simple arrogance and a refusal to admit that any culture that is significantly touched by Islam is worse off as a result, and the nations that are completely beholden to Islam are dying in many ways.

Very good observation, I have made this myself too. The Palis live off the tit of the UN as the world's best Professional Victims. The Saudis live in luxury one could never imagine. Their wives remind me of the fatted calves who never set foot outside their tiny pen. Very rich Veal wrapped in expensive burkas..

Very good observation

Thank you for your kind words  :-)

The Palis live off the tit of the UN as the world's best Professional Victims.

As well as from Iran and other Middle Eastern entities (many of them don't deserve the title of 'country' )

The Saudis live in luxury one could never imagine.

Which is entirely as a result of oil, which was discovered by the West, the technology to extract and refine and market it was developed by the West, and the money derived from it's sale comes largely from the West.  If it wasn't for oil and the West, the Saudis would still be riding camels, living in tents and chasing dinner with a stick.

The fact that we didn't kick them off of their land when we discovered the oil is testament to the incredible kindness, humanity and benevolence of the West.

Their wives remind me of the fatted calves who never set foot outside their tiny pen. Very rich Veal wrapped in expensive burkas..

LOL  Great analogy!  And the fact that their women are largely not allowed to become educated or to have anywhere close to the freedoms of women in the West is testament to the corrosive nature of Islam and to their utterly backward, Neanderthal culture.

Put an expensive outfit on a Cro-Magnon man and put him in a Mercedes and you still have a Cro-Magnon man, despite all of the expensive fluff.

LOL ~ Now I see the newest line of Mercedes C-Cro-Magnon Class

*Again I think the mullahs, who love power, seek to control their followers by teaching hate and fear of reprisal if a Muslim dares to criticize or speak out. There is always an element of fanaticism in this world but it must learn to live with others. The moment it preaches that it is the only way or you die then it has crossed that line, the one that says, sorry, but we will no longer put up with you.

The Islamists push that line day in and day out. They won't stop either unless we put our foot down.

You're absolutely right of course, but the trouble is that here in the USA we can't even get a consensus on basic, obvious things like winning the war, immigration and profiling. We are so very, very far from being in the proper, unified mindset that is essential for winning a war like this.

I fear that we will need to take many more losses and experience multiple 9/11's before the we truly begin to take this seriously. By then it may be too late.

That's true. There is no consensus on the war because our government is doing WarLite. They refuse to name the enemy other than "terrorists." They treat the Muslims here with kid gloves, i.e., CAIR. The MSM refuses to describe a Muslim who commits an act of terror as a muslim or a terrorist. The attack on the Jewish Center, what was that? The MSM and our gov said it was some guy with the dreaded Sudden Jihadi Syndrome.

No one wants to call a spade a spade. Today on Fox they were discussing this very issue about the media not using the word, Muslim. Even they couldn't use it. It was laughable. Or sad. Are they scared or just PC?
