That Reuters is not openly condemned by all western news organizations speaks volumes. The scale/depth of deceit in this conflict is mind-boggling.

These characters are no friends of America, or Americans. They wish us ill.

A spokesmen for Reuters said "Next time we hire a photographer we need to send him to a PhotoShop course and he has to pass testing. We can't have these amateurs messing everything up."

How about every reuters picture is required to have the "not-altered written guarentee" next to the photo credit.

Dan Rather is missing a huge opportunity. Just like when master theifs and forgers become consultants, Dan could turn his image around and become the authority on forged news and create the Dan Rather seal of approval.

Their idea was that only actual film photos should be used for news reporting so authenticity could be verified.

Unfortunately raw film has had the same problem for at least 15 years. Hollywood has been using film printers in special affects at least since 1991. Basically what the film printer does is print digital images onto any film type. At least for the last 15 years it has been just about impossible (except for perhaps a tiny few hard cores) to tell if an old fashioned SLR or a film printer took the image.

A possible solution is to download the original chip to the newspaper and mark the photos to be used.

Doesn't stop deliberate distortion by the paper, but would stop rogue photojournalists.
