Washington Whispers: GOP voters: like a rock
U.S. News ^ | August 9, 2006 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 08/10/2006 9:48:23 AM PDT by new yorker 77

Many Democrats may hate the war in Iraq and itch to dump the president, but a new GOP survey shows that Republican base voters stand ready to jam the November polls to return their team to Congress. A three-page-survey memo obtained by Washington Whispers reveals that despite reports of some dissatisfaction with the economy, the war, and President Bush, 81 percent of Republican voters are "almost certain" to vote and an additional 14 percent say they are "very likely." It goes without saying that they'll vote Republican: By a margin of 84 percent to 6 percent, they will pull the GOP toggle switch in the voting booth. And here is something you don't hear very often: 88 percent of Republicans approve of how the prez is handling his job. What's it all mean? Analysts say that GOP voters are ready to dig in and play defense against the charges Democrats are tossing at Republican candidates.

The memo also helps to define what issues work for Republican candidates. The survey--officially tilted "Base Mobilization Survey Finds and Conclusions"--divided the issues into foreign and domestic. On the foreign side, it's all terrorism and war with polling that finds GOP voters back the war, worry about Democratic attacks on the fight against terrorism, and think the Patriot Act, moves to tighten the border, and even telephone surveillance are good things. And their favorite domestic issues aren't a surprise: They are pro-tax cuts, big on cultural values, and worried that Democrats want to put too much bureaucracy in healthcare. Another nonshocker: They don't like the media's war stories, thinking that they are too negative. Some 60 percent of the GOP base expresses "extremely high dissatisfaction" with the coverage of the war.

"Well sure, they can mess it up...but destroy it completely? I have more faith in our country than that. Clinton tried for 8 years to destroy the military...if Algore would have won in 2000 he would have finished the job......I know this and so does everyone in the military.....that is just one reason that they should never come to power again..."

Great post !!!! beeler needs a lot more "home schoolin' ". I suggest beeler start his next attempt at a home school lesson by Googling the following three little words:

Bottom Up Review

After beeler's Bottom Up Review lesson, let's see if he still thinks it's OK to put the Dems back in power for another 2 years of Congress, and a 4 years term with the Dems in control of both houses of Congress and the White House , while he teaches the RINO's HIS "lesson".

But the sad thing is MA....it probably won't....

Many thanks for the ping.

This IS what I have been posting to FR's doom&gloomers and UNAPPEASEABLES, for a very long time. They are going to be as surprised, come November, as the MSM and the Dems will be; heck, perhaps even more surprised, by the results.

There are over 700 posts now as I finally get to this thread. I doubt that I'll read through them all, but I want you to know that I see the same thing as you.

Republicans will vote without regard to principle for every "R" in sight. Conservatives will only vote for those who deserve it based on their fidelity to conservative principles.

The best thing that the GOP has going for it is the Democrat Party being so whacked out. I think that a lot of dems will vote for the nanny state pubbies who are acting like (old time) dems because they too realize the new party is insane. The other dynamic that the GOP is counting on is what is witnessed here. That their fearmongering will work and we'll cede our principles and vote for them just because 'the other guy is even worse than they are'.

Sad, isn't it?

You would rather have a Democrat in office......a person who has NO conservative values at all........than someone who agrees with conservatives, lets say 80% of the time?

That's a strawman. If the GOP was with us 80% of the time, we wouldn't have a problem voting for them. 50% to 60% is more like it and that just ain't acceptable. Some are even in the 40% range.

Since when is that acceptable?

Let's just call 'em the FRickle FReakers.

Or the French division of FR. French Freepers.

Set your beeler to Stune! NICE job, gang! How about FRee Republic Fussers?

REMEMBER!!

To beeler (yeah, I know you've been banned -- but they let ANYONE in to lurk...) as much as we want to vote for him again, George W Bush is not running for President in '08.

We KNOW you don't like him. We happen to really like him and most of his policies (flash -- X42 & Mrs. CoX42 didn't REALLY "create" a "surplus").

There, that's out of the way! Now that you're free from beating a dead horse , what are your suggestions for the POTUS in the next administration?? You know, someone whose campaign has been (finally!) deserving of your special, EDUCATED hard work in this important time in these pre-nomination months?

When you get your posting privileges back, you can ping me to your thread on the subject. I'm really anxious to know who your ideal candidate would be!

You holier-than-thou that think you're more righteous than everyone else make me sick. You're irrelevant to anything except helping the opposition. You're RATS best friends.

Well, I've waded through over 300 posts now and I have to say that I am truly sickened by what passes as conservatism and honest and intellectual debate.

You are single handedly taking on what I call the 'usual suspects' and the best that they have to offer is insults and fearmongering.

In almost 6 years here, this is perhaps the most nauseating thread that I've read to date. That the relentless attacks on you have been permitted, when you are making sound argument and being polite in the face of such nastiness is beneath the FR that I used to know.

The one good thing about this thread is that so many are willing to expose themselves as hacks, shills, and GOP uber alles types. It's especially interesting that the issues that you mention as important to conservatism are mocked. The bonus came when Terri Schiavo name was casually thrown in as proof that you are wrong.

Pal, I'm standing with you.

We have two 'RINOs' in the state of Ohio, and they vote with Conservatives at least 80% of the time, so your entire premise is wrong.

As for liberals like Chafee and Snow, the only difference they make is the Committee make -up, but that's HUGE.

There is no reason in the world to oust a RINO and replace him or her with an anti-American leftist........

That is, unless you don't care about the country you live in.

That's your choice, ray. If you can live with doing potentially irreparable harm to America just to make yourself feel good, GO for it.

Just be honest about what you're doing.

Maybe you can get banned like your 'pal' too, badone.

You're cheering on a troll here, who isn't even remotely conservative.

But then again, as one who is apparently advocating replacing Republicans with Democrats, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised that you would side with him.....

LOL! GREAT post, WT!

(But don't expect a response. Truth be told, I think X42 IS his favorite candidate).

Actually, it was mostly in the day yesterday, and it was a humorous diversion from real life.

I came back and saw that the poor boy had been banned.

Perhaps, if he comes back, it will be with a new attitude.........like, maybe a CONSERVATIVE one. :)

Fully rested and ready to go again! Thanks!

Thank you all very much for this thread! The article brings up some often-forgotten positives and then you all got the most energetic troll I have ever seen here. I can not remember any trolls making it past two or three posts before being banned, but good ol' beeler hung in there for a LONG time.

Keep the faith!
