U.S. picked up the suspects' chatter and shared it with British authorities

Britain's MI-5 intelligence service and Scotland Yard had been tracking the plot for several months, but only in the past two weeks had the plotters' planning begun to crystallize, senior U.S. officials tell TIME. In the two or three days before the arrests, the cell was going operational, and authorities were pressed into action. MI5 and Scotland Yard agents tracked the plotters from the ground, while a knowledgeable American official says U.S. intelligence provided London authorities with intercepts of the group's communications

Luckily the ACLU and NY Times didn't get ahold of this info or there wouldn't be any arrests. And if Demos had there way and our intelligence wasn't listening to these calls, the terrorist would have succeeded

Aaarrrgghhhh!!!!!

The bad guys know how they were communicating, and now one of our fine leakers has let them know we heard them doing it -- and thus the bad guys will change their methods.

Why don't those bastard "sources" STFU?!?

The NY Slimes is still really pissed that they couldn't forewarn the terrorists of their impending arrests, so now they're telling the terrorists how it was done so they can adjust. Shameful!

"...a knowledgeable American official says U.S. intelligence provided London authorities with intercepts of the group's communications."

Bingo! Our "illegal" wiretaps helped stop a major terrorist attack.

Massachusetts State Police patrol with automatic weapons at Logan International Airport in Boston, Thursday, August 10.

Automatic weapons displayed in Boston... hmnm

But what about the big gun control billboard right by Fenway Park? Shouldn't we do what it says and not have any guns at all?

I think they've figured it out already. That's the readon why the bad guys bought 600 disposable phones.

Don't worry about it so much. There are only so many ways to communicate, and the only secure way is by courier who carries nothing but what is in his mind. Everything else can be and is intercepted.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Muslim, we are watching, we are listening. At any time if the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA BELIEVES you are plotting anything, WE ARE COMING. END OF STATEMENT. We will watch your mosques, bug them. Your phones, tapped. Deal with it. When Muslims around the globe riot over cartoons, instead of homicide bombers, guess what. IT'S OVER.

Looks like one to me. It would make sense to use a suppressed weapon. If they had to shoot, the sounds of an un-suppressed machine gun reverberating through the terminal would cause mass panic and a stampede for the exits.

If the NSA wiretapping plan hadn't been in effect the past few months, I wonder how much harder it would have been to capture all the terrorists in England. Scotland Yard did say clearly that wiretapping was KEY in stopping this plot. That kinda says it all.

And that means that I'd rather keep taping their calls, then have thousands of dead Americans and American cities on fire again. End of story. P**s on the ACLU w****s who want to stop something that isn't unconstitutional.

Lone wolf amendment

In 2004, FISA was amended to include a "lone wolf" provision. 50 U.S.C. §1801(b)(1)(C). A "lone wolf" is a non-US person who engages in or prepares for international terrorism. The provision amended the definition of "foreign power" to permit the FISA courts to issue surveillance and physical search orders without having to find a connection between the "lone wolf" and a foreign government or terrorist group.[15]

And Carter and Clinton did it here and no one had a problem with it:

E.O. 12139 - Jimmy Carter's Executive order to provide as set forth in FISA for the authorization of electronic surveillance for foreign intelligence purposes

E.O. 12949 - Bill Clinton's Executive order to provide for the authorization of physical searches for foreign intelligence purposes

And the 4th Amendment clearly is not violated by the NSA wire tapping program. There is probable cause, and it is not involving domestic communications, either the maker or receiver of the call are in other countries, and there is probable cause that they are involved in terrorist acts.

It's so clear. Nothing illegal took place in these wiretaps. But there are thousands of Americans alive today BECAUSE of those wiretaps.
