Tuscola County prosecutors filed terrorism-related charges Saturday against three men who they say bought dozens of cell phones Friday in Caro in a globally coordinated plot involving the Mackinac Bridge.

They charged brothers Adham Abdelhamid Othman, 21, and Louai Abdelhamied Othman, 23, along with their cousin, Maruan Awad Muhareb, 18, with identical counts of collecting material to support terrorist acts and surveillance of a vulnerable target with intent to committ terrorism.

All they need to take the bridge down is to sever the 2 end ties on the cables.

The main cables on the bridge are 24.5 inches in diameter. Have you ever looked at the cable anchors on a large suspension bridge?

""Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both. "
Benjamin Franklin "

I have doubts about whether the post-revolution american colonies would have allowed muslim immigration at all if it were to have been attempted, and I have no doubt whatsoever that the first hint of the current problem the states or citizens would have forcibly evicted them, citizens or not.

Has the ACLU lawyer got them out on bail yet?

Don't think so, but their lawyer, families and friends are busy painting them as innocent "red-blooded, all American kids".

Your scenario is why I think that the suggestion that they should all be disabled is necessary.

Well, can we get a list of numbers. We can all call them and ask "what's up"?

"When this is all said and done, these young men might have to be physically removed from our country, if we are to survive. A declaration of martial law would be a foregone conclusion if we were to suffer a truly devastating attack, and I don't believe America would stand for any of these young men remaining among us to continue to threaten us any further. Neither would we stand for their mosques continuing to preach hate and destruction every Friday afternoon.
"

I bet over half the US population is reaching or beyond this attitude now, and I double-bet you that we could have 10x the damage of the 9/11 attacks and Fedgov would bend over backwards to NOT do what you are saying.

How about the first time they are used it is as detonators to kill a bunch of people crossing that bridge on Labor Day?

Well, we need to outlaw and confiscate every digital clock circuit. Because that is the only functionality left available. Think about it. Is that really viable?

I think all internet access should be disabled...never know what could happen if it is used by unscrupulous folks...

However, I did serve for many years as a demolitions expert on a Special Forces A-Team. I will say that suspension bridges are the toughest demolitions problem I have ever encountered

Couldn't they get a small emergency vehicle --say an ambulance-- reinforce the suspension, pack it with explosives, and drive NEXT to the main cable, and then detonate?

As long as the charge was adequate, it doesn't seem to me totally necessary that the "charges" be *physically attached* to the cable, although obviously that would be best (for their purposes).

Of course, the girth of the cable is quite extraordinary...

Ahem. You can't CALL a digital clock from a remote location.

I am not a techno-geek, but I understand the attraction of cell phones as opposed to other technical equipment.

Very clever. Is internet access used to detonate explosives? No.

Now go away.

They did do work on the GG bridge, though (my family lives in SF and I visit often), so I think there was probably some vulnerability. I know there were several apprehensions of Muslims taking pictures of parts of the bridge from boats, from the toll plaza, and also from Fort Point underneath.

actually what that told us (or confirmed for some) is that Fedgov will absolutely deny any actually attempted terrorist action unless it is so spectacularly successful that it simply cannot be explained away, e.g. 9/11/01 attacks.

They had his father out doing talkshow circuits within days of his death. that alone was a tell.

But who are they selling them to? Who would pay that much for a throwaway phone, unless they needed the phone for nefarious activities? If this is such a lucrative and legitimate underground market, why are most (nearly all?) of those going into Walmart to buy mass quantities of these phones Middle Eastern-looking males? Wouldn't a white guy or three figure also figure out that this is a business opportunity for easy money?
