Why the Mackinac bridge?
Having worked with demolitions for many years msny years I can tell you it would take far more than 10 tons of high explosives to bring down the Mackinac Bridge.

I think they were targeting the people during the Bridge Walk, not the bridge. Can anyone determine if there is significance to the date 09-04-06?
If they planned to use the same method as the London bombers (sports drinks, etc.), we should be extremely nervous since that type of bomb could conceivably be built at a football game- or even the Bridge Walk. Again, at the very least... 500 bombs killing 10 people would have a greater death toll than 911. And if this scenario is taking place in every state... God help us all.

Undoubtedly. But I don't see the demolition as necessarily being the objective. If even a small part were damaged- it's the psychological impact on the citizens that counts. Sure- they want a high body count- but first- they want to mess with our minds, our spirits..

But with a good concrete bitted drill, climbing gear and a lot less explosives you could cripple and drop two or four pylons and drop a span ... or if you miscalculate, you will still cripple the bridge beyond engineering safety requirements for load.
