Sure.

Start with about 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise, either homemade or the commercial one you like the best.

Add one garlic clove, crushed and chopped.

Add one or two anchovy filets which you've soaked in milk or buttermilk for a while, then rinsed....to remove the salt. Crush the filets into a sort of paste.

Finally, add a sqeeze of fresh lemon juice.

Mix all the ingredients well.

You can experiment with the amount of anchovy you use in this. It all depends on how much you like anchovies.

This is a good thing for serving with almost anything that will be complimented by garlic and anchovies. Fish, crab dishes, and that sort of thing. Good stuff.

We're having a fish fry at the local Moose Lodge Friday night, I think I'll make up a batch of it.

Be sure to get yours before it's all gone.

BTW, it's really good as a dipping sauce for french fries. I'm going to go make some right now. I know I have a tin of anchovy filets somewhere.

I prefer Thai or Japanese soy sauces.

Right now I have to start dealing with the 10 pounds of blueberries we picked this morning..........

I bet it would be good on french fries.

Anchovies are a staple in this house, there are always a few tins of them in the pantry.

Ummm...soy sauce is pretty basic and cheap. It is not a substance that one would replace with syntho. This, if true, is DISGUSTING!

What do anchovies taste like?

My dad eats sardines. When Mom's not around, he eats them in the TV room. When she's home, he has to go out on the back porch.

I tried them once when I was little and didn't like them, but my palate has matured and I might take to 'em now.

We (my friend, myself, and our 3 kids) went to a local U-Pick place and we're planning on going back one more time before school starts. When blueberries are $8 a pound in the supermarket, I'm will to drive 40 miles or so and spend a couple hours picking.....at 75cents a pound, you better believe it.

Plums, peaches, and pears are all 50cents a pound and apples range from 15-50 cents a pound.

Anchovies have an intense flavor that is both salty and fishy. If you think of sardines, just magnify the fishiness by a factor of about 5.

Not a lot of people actually eat anchovies by themselves, although anchovy filets wrapped around a caper is one of my favorite appetizers.

For most people, they're best used as a flavoring ingredient, as in the aoili recipe above. It's probably an acquired taste, although I've always liked them.

My wife will not eat them, and kissing is out of the question until I've brushed my teeth.

I suspect you will not like them, to tell you the truth, if you didn't like sardines. Try sardines again. If there's still a yuck factor, skip the anchovies.

This is all about tinned anchovies. In Italy, you can find fresh anchovies...tiny little silvery fish. That's a very different thing. They're quite good and not at all like canned anchovies. Same with fresh sardines, also an Italian specialty.

Oily salt.

They are definitely an acquired taste. I love them on pizza and on salads. Heck I even eat them on crackers with cream cheese.

Sardines, I do not eat. My husband loves them, but I never acquired a taste for them. Herring, OTOH, is an entirely different story.
