That was somewhat after the founding of Rome. There would be no reason to suppose that Rome was not in contact with China all along.

"Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And onto this, Conan, destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!"

Well, that certainly seals it for once and for all... Global warming has been proven. 2500 years ago in Mongolia they wore fur coats, while today in Mongolia they wear, um, well I guess that they still wear fur coats in Mongolia these days... Never mind...

What's strange is that Scythia was in southeastern Europe.

Did Europeans invade Mongolia before the Mongols invaded Europe?

China has always been an "inward" looking culture. They were ruled by the Mongols and, most recently, the Manchu. Seems likely to me that one reason was the "wild barbarians of the steppe" who were in reality, many different people.

Wowzo! Too bad about the no picture, I'm sure there'll be one in no time. This is as big a deal as Oetzi, IMHO.

In front of the camera the archaeologists opened the sepulchre where the mummy of the Scythian soldier was stored. The mummy, conserved in permafrost, carried still a fur coat. Animal rights activists promptly splattered it with red paint and protested.
