Life of the Party (Questions for Nancy Pelosi)
NY Times' Terrorist Tip Sheet ^ | August 13, 2006 | Interview by DEBORAH SOLOMON

Q: As the Democratic leader of the House of Representatives, how are you spending your summer vacation now that Congress is out of session?

I’ll be traveling to 20 cities this month to raise money for the Democrats, but on the Sunday when this piece appears, I will be at my vacation home in Napa Valley, holding an issues conference.

Are you saying you have issues?

Well, I am addicted to chocolate, but what we’ll be discussing at the conference are the urgent issues facing our nation, such as Iraq, affordable health care and education. My whole focus is the first Tuesday in November.

Exactly how many seats do the Democrats need to gain to take the majority in the House?

Fifteen. Right now there are 203 Democrats in the House, and to get the majority we need 218. We have 49 or 50 races that we are targeting. Every poll says we are ahead by at least 10 points. If the election were today, we would win. But it’s not today. It’s in 86 days. And every day is a lifetime in politics.

What do you think the president could do in the interim to boost his ratings?

If I knew, I wouldn’t say it publicly.

What if he produces Osama bin Laden the night before the election?

Well, that won’t do it. That’s five years too late.

What if he and his strategists use the Israeli-Hezbollah war to divert the public’s attention from Iraq?

This doesn’t help him. This is again a failure of U.S. diplomacy and leadership in the world. Look at this: the North Koreans are testing nuclear missiles, the Iranians are going nuclear, the Somalis are going militant, Iraq is a disaster, the Israeli-Palestinian situation is explosive and now we have the Lebanon situation. It’s been a failure of U.S...

It just amazes me that this bimbo can remain so blind to the reality of what is really going on in the world. She has to be bought off by Islamic Jihadists.

And her solution as leader is to bring the troops home, let civil war break out in these countries and give both Iran and North Korea nuclear technology like Clinton did, which got us in this mess in the first place.

Oh, and to make terrorism a police problem, to be fought on American soil as well as raise taxes so they can fund national health care and other failed social programs.

No thanks.

The bimbo isn't blind. She is as smart as they come. Lie to your constituency because they are too stupid to figure it out.

It has worked for Jesse and all the other Libs for 30 years. Problem is Liberals do not get it. They are so lacking in self esteem that they need someone to hold their hand and guide them through life. They will give up all their worldy possessions to be treated equally with others like them.

They have no sense of self worth, nor do they have any desire to make rewrding lives for themselves. They are the proverbial crabs in the bucket. When someone tries to climb out, instead of climbing with them they will drag it back down and say it is for the common good.

Rich liberals don't have to worry about that because they are rich. Osama Obama tells us we shouldn't drive SUV's because it wastes gas then gets in his SUV and goes to the next event to say the same thing. And the people fall for it.

SOLOMON: "Are you saying you have issues?

Nancy Pelosi: Well, I am addicted to chocolate,"

My God was that funny. That wasn't set up or anything, I Addicted to Chocolate! That was so clever! Get it? Because addictions are usually to things like drugs or alcohol. That Nancy kills me.

Also, Nancy's quip helped me see her as something more than a hard-driving, ultra-dedicated Leftist. She has a soft and fun side, too!

I will be at my vacation home in Napa Valley,

Paul Pelosi, Nancy's husband, is a multi millionaire worth over 150 million. He was a part owner of Auberge de Solei, owns wine grape acreage and is a part owner of the Martini House. The Pelosi's have been in Napa for years. Small point but should that not read "Our" vacation home?

Don't most married people refer to ownership of things like a summer home, or cabin as "ours" and not "mine"?

Could be just a slip.

Only from the looney liberal left coast - totally out of touch with flyover America. Mostly taken over by Mexico as I understand their population stats.

I wish, just once, one of these idiot Bush haters who blame him for not catching Osama yet would remember their own idiot Bill Clinton didn't have any luck with that back when the guy was much more out in the open.

Obviously she could not care less about the United States of America, just gaining more power for herself.

Despicable human being.
