GOP Allen's Once Large Lead Evaporates: In an election for the United States Senate in Virginia today, 8/21/06, incumbent Republican George Allen edges Democrat challenger James Webb 48% to 45%, according to an exclusive SurveyUSA poll conducted for W*USA-TV in Washington, DC.

Since an identical SurveyUSA poll released 6/28/06, Allen has lost 8 points and Webb has gained 8 points. Allen's lead has shrunk from 19 points to 3 points.

Interviewing for this poll began 8/18/06, one week after Allen singled out a Webb campaign worker at an Allen rally. Allen has lost support across all demographic groups, but in particular, among younger voters. He has gone from Plus 23 to Minus 17, a swing of 40 points. In Southeastern VA, Allen has gone from a 2:1 lead to a tie, a 31-point swing.

Another yawn for you. Foot-in-mouth disease? Only if someone really believes that media-created garbage amounts to anything.

Just what kind of keen voter acumen is necessary to CHANGE one's vote FROM a candidate because he/she uttered the word 'Macaca'?

I despise polls because of idiocy like this that tends to portray VOTERS as reactionary imbeciles!!

Ahhh...oh never mind!!

Senator George Allen is still a good front-runner and a good candidate.

Why doesn't Allen stand on the principles that he claims to have instead of trying to be a PC-"feel good" kind of politicians who "reaches out" to people who won't vote for him? I believe that the failed gubernatorial candidate last year in VA, Jerry Kilgore, is Allen's latest role model.

I notice the MSM is piling on. The LA Times had an article today criticizing him. I guess they figure if they can knock him out of his run for President it will be one less challenger for Hillary.

Given the hostility of the press to every Republican Candidate is a real achievement for a Republican to get elected almost anywhere.

I think people way under estimate the number of percentage points media bias adds to the Democrats.
You look at people at some of the Democratic Senators that get elected in Western states. Without the media concealing their real political views I doubt they could poll 35% of the vote.

It's august, a lot can happen until novemeber. ALlen had a really bad week and a half, everybody has been pouncing on him. This is what happens as a result of that. He'll rebound back and still win this thing. The other thing most people seem to forget, is yes allen did have a huge lead earlier, but that lead but the gap was bound to close. This isn't utah, allen won here his last election 52-48, and two democrat governors have been elected back to back. Allen will win this thing, but people who expect him to win like 65-35 are just silly.
