Conservatives try to curtail hotel porn

NEW YORK - Pornographic movies now seem nearly as pervasive in America's hotel rooms as tiny shampoo bottles, and the lodging industry shows little concern as conservative activists rev up a protest campaign aimed at triggering a federal crackdown.

A coalition of 13 conservative groups — including the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America — took out full-page ads in some editions of USA Today earlier this month urging the Justice Department and FBI to investigate whether some of the pay-per-view movies widely available in hotels violate federal and state obscenity laws.

The coalition also is trying to draw attention to CleanHotels.com, a directory of hotels and motels nationwide that pledge to exclude adult offerings from their in-room entertainment service.

What Hotels should do is turn off porn access to rooms which have minor children registered as staying, and only turn it on if spedifically authorized by an adult.

This is exactly what hotels do. At least the ones I have worked in and all the ones I've heard about...

Well, Kathleen Simpson and I went to the big Christian Blog convention last week, and wanted to report back to our readers.

The convention was great! We learned how to optimize our Blog for Google and how to operate the spelling checker in FrontPage. Were hopping to cut down on the errors that way.

There is one thing, though, that I wanted to discuss will all you readers. As you know, the convention was held in the Raddison Hotel near the airport. Kathleen and I shared a room to save money (keep looking at those Google ads there on the right, folks).

Well, we got settled in and turned on the TV. We never did find the 700 club, but we did find something so shocking that I can scarcely believe it. There was channel after channel of pornography right there on the TV in our room.

We were shocked, I must say. Kathleen and I were up all night, investigating just exactly what sorts of horrors these evil people were broadcasting into the hotel rooms of unsuspecting Christians.

All I can say is that we watched over 10 hours of this filth. We were so exhausted that we missed the keynote address the next morning.

Something must be done about this pornography in hotel rooms....it inflames the lust and can even lead to homosexual behavior, even between normally heterosexual adults.

I'll have more to report next week, but Kathleen and I are off to another convention this weekend. This time it's the Christ's Bloggers Convention in Atlanta. We hadn't planned to attend this one, but it sounds so exciting.

While I agree with you where adults are concerned, unfortunately young people can rent a room and watch it, and that is the biggest problem that I can see.

No, pretty much all access to movies in rooms are goverened by the front desk.

The rooms all say that the name of the movie you watch will not show up on your bill.

I used to do expenses for a moderate sized company, and let me tell you, there's only one kind of movie that costs $17.99, and it ain't When Harry Met Sally.

There was one fella, who must've had a horrible porn addiction, 'cause there was one of those on just about every hotel bill he turned it. Not that he didn't go through the trouble of blocking it out with a black sharpie, but for God's sake, I'm an accountant, you don't think I can add that up?

Sadder thing was, though, he'd crossed a friend of mine in the office, really burned him, and I just couldn't resist walking around the office with his hotel bill and keeping all manner of people up to date on "Poor Danny's porn addiction" much to the delight of many co-workers.

Word to the wise, just download porn onto you laptop or send photos to your G Mail account for a more private source of self-abuse while on the road.

Hotels rooms are NOT protected by the same clause as homes are.

And I can guarantee you if anyone wants to make it Constitutional and Original Intent they would go down in flames. Does anyone really, really think hardcore porn (soft core for that matter) was what the founding fathers were trying to protect when they wrote and signed the constitution?
