Allen gives longer apology for remark

SPRINGFIELD -- Shaken by charges of racial insensitivity, U.S. Sen. George Allen offered his most expansive public apology Tuesday for comments made to an Indian-American man. "I deeply regret those comments," Allen, R-Va., said Tuesday just before leaving the podium at a Northern Virginia retirement community. "I have no one to blame but myself. A person was insulted and others were. I'm fully responsible for it. ... I want to live up to all your expectations. I'm very sorry and I apologize."

Because at this point he is the one keeping the story alive.

That simply isn't so. I live in Northern Virginia. The MSM will not let go of the issue. The Washington Post [I am a subscriber] has been relentless on it with almost daily stories in every part of the paper. I expect to see it next in the Food section. The local talk shows have picked up on it. Allen is being pounded on a daily basis by the MSM and it won't go away because the MSM agenda is to destroy Allen as both a senator seeking reelection and as a potential Presidential candidate.

He was going to apologize at his next public appearance last week, but the Webb campaign stopped sending Siddarth to film him so Allen couldn't apologize in person.

They will probably still complain that it wasn't "in person". Even though if Siddarth had gone up after the meeting and said "Senator Allen, your words insulted me", I bet Allen would have apologized right then and there.

Of course, at THAT time the kid didn't know he was insulted yet, because at that time the campaign strategy was to claim that Allen called him out because he was the only person of color in the room (even though there were OTHER people of color in the room, another media lie). It wasn't until the tape-review people got around to listening to the tape and using google that they figured out this additional "offense".

This guy is a dumb ass and a weak-willed idiot.

People were saying the same things about Bush in 2000.

Allen is going to reelected to the Senate. Bank on it.

I can well imagine this is to local politics what the Bush went AWOL story was at the national level.

I've never even heard of the term "macaca" -- can anyone explain to me how, and if, it's a slur?

A Macaca is a Macaque, a North African monkey that follows you around, begs for food, tries to get its hand in your pocket, tries to steal shiny objects, and generally makes a nuisance of itself.

Really, it was a very good description of this rat operative who was following him around videotaping him and trying to get something on him. Apparently his staff started calling him the macaque, and he went and used it in public.

Now, the establishment is on him because the kid is indian-american, i.e., dark-complected. As usual, they forget that according to their Prophet Darwin we are ALL monkeys.

Right, we're all just monkeys that figured out how to get out of the trees.

Oh good grief. Enough with the apologiess already. He should've apologised in the first place but instead should have said, "I was not making a racist remark, I thought I was using a word which means clown. Funny how this has gotten so blown out of proportion. As for the guy stalking me..."
Oh no, tho. Going on and on as if he did something wrong makes everyone think he really did and needs forgivness.
Jeez...Sometimes, republicans need to stop trying so dang hard and just be real!!!

Exactly. That is a good comparison. Bush provided far more documentation and records than Kerry, but the press never let go of the National Guard issue, including CBS trying to use phony documents to nail Bush on the eve of the election. On the other hand, the MSM tried to discredit the SBVFT after failing to silence them by ignoring them.

I do find it odd that some Reps are jumping on the bandwagon attacking Allen.

Very true. I had to write Pence off a few weeks ago, now it looks like Allen is down for the count. What did W say after the "Major league clymer" incident? Did he go on an apology tour? I don't think so. What did the WH do after the recent use of the word Sh!t? They said he said what he meant.

Guess I'm down to Rudy unless someone comes along on a white horse. I don't like his stance on some issues, but I think he'd police the border and fight the war.

That's one explanation. The one Allen gave initially makes much more sense. After all, this little punk has a Mohawk haircut in profile. He's ridiculing American Indians.

Iran won't stop its nuclear program. Kim Jong Il is a threat. Airline scares are happening almost daily. Aren't you glad that candidate Webb and his liberal boosters are talking about the really important stuff?

Allen is not the one initiating these endless apologies. The MSM continues to bring it up every time he appears in public. He has the choice of ignoring the questions or repeating his apology. Which would you suggest he do?

Lol, when i first glanced at this i thought it said "Allen no longer gives apology for remark". I would be pretty happy if he took it back and told the media and the webb campaign to go macaca themselves.

His 2008 Presidential prospects are an entirely different matter, however.

They will keep it front and center until election day. Allen will be asked about it at every press conference and every debate.

And he should say that issue is over, next question. They would learn to not waste their question on it quick enough.

The President is not running for reelection. Allen is in a different position.

As far as Rudy is concerned, the personal attacks on his marriage and father's alleged Mafia ties will begin as soon as he announces he is a candidate for President.
