Muslim Jihad Comes To Small Town, USA
conservative truth ^ | July 25, 2005 | Laura Mansfield

Posted on 08/28/2006 10:07:18 AM PDT by Lorianne

It happened again this week. I came out of the office to find a flyer under my windshield wipers inviting me to a special informational presentation on God and family values, and how to bring them back to the forefront in America.

I'm a parent, so the flyer caught my interest. But as an analyst for the Northeast Intelligence Network, my eyes were riveted to the address on the flyer: The session was being held at a nearby mosque.

Curiosity got the better of me, and I decided it would be a good time for some onsite investigations of the mosque. In order to not attract undue attention, I dressed conservatively, wearing a navy jumper with a long sleeve white blouse, and low heels. I debated whether or not to put on a hijab (head scarf) then decided not to. After all, I was going to "learn," not to pretend I was a Muslim.

I checked the mosque schedule on the Web, and discovered there was going to be an Arabic language session an hour before. So I showed up an hour early. The imam met me at the door, and told me that the presentation didn't start for an hour, and suggested I come back in an hour. Fortunately, I had anticipated this. I explained that since I had quite a bit of reading to do for a class I was taking. "Can I just sit here and read?"

He hesitated a moment, then agreed. I sat in the back of the room, with my book open, and made a mental note to remember to turn the pages every so often, as I listened to the speakers in Arabic.

The first speaker was the head of the Muslim Students' Association at the nearby university. Although I missed the beginning of the discussion, I caught up quickly. He was talking about the problems he had encountered on a recent trip, when TSA flagged him for extra screening. He joked about the fact that they had stopped him for extensive screening. He had anticipated that he would be screened and he had filled his carryon luggage with printouts of the Quran from the Internet, and had 15 or 16 CDs labeled in Arabic, and he had a notebook computer with him.

As he expected, he was delayed he thought it was very amusing that while several TSA personnel were scrutinizing his personal belongings that his classmate from Jordan was able to walk through security, along with his American girlfriend, without any problems whatsoever.

One of the men said, in Arabic: "Blonde Americans are good for something!" Another man advised him to be cautious, since there was an American woman in the room. The imam spoke up and told everyone I didn't speak Arabic.

At that point, another student took the podium. His name was Khaled, and he began to recount his recent trip to New York City. Khaled and three of his companions had gone to New York for several days in January. He told of how uncomfortable his trip up to NYC had been. He felt like he was being watched, and thought he was the victim of racial profiling.

Khaled and his friends were pretty unhappy about it, and while in New York, they came up with a plan to "teach a lesson" to the passengers and crew. You can imagine the story Khaled told. He described how he and his friends whispered to each other on the flight, made simultaneous visits to the restroom, and generally tried to "spook" the other passengers. He laughed when he described how several women were in tears, and one man sitting near him was praying.

The others in the room thought the story was quite amusing, judging from the laughter. The imam stood up and told the group that this was a kind of peaceful civil disobedience that should be encouraged, and commended Khaled and his friends for their efforts.

He pointed out that it was through this kind of civil disobedience that ethnic profiling would fail.

One of the other men, Ahmed from Kuwait, gave a brief account of his friend Eyad, who had finally gone to Iraq. Ahmed was in e-mail contact with Eyad, and hoped by the following week to be able to bring them more information about the state of the "mujahideen" in Iraq.

As the meeting drew to a close, the imam gave a brief speech calling for the protection of Allah on the mujahideen fighting for Islam throughout the world, and reminded everyone that it was their duty as Muslims to continue in the path of jihad, whether it was simple efforts like those of Khaled and his friends, or the actual physical fighting of men like Eyad.

As the meeting broke up, several women in hijabs came in the room, and two of them sat with me. They were very warm and friendly and welcoming, and appeared to be clearly thrilled that I was there. They asked me questions about who I was, and why I was interested in the session.

By the time the session began, there were half a dozen American women, four of them African-American. Where the previous session had definite anti-American tones, this session was all American and Apple Pie. The earlier session had been in Arabic this one was in English.

The woman leading the session, Nafisa, told of the concerns she had regarding her daughters in the public-school system. She complained about the influence of the MTV culture, and seemed concerned about the rampant sexuality that pervaded all facets of American life, from television to movies and on into the school system.

She explained her personal solution - the local Islamic school, beginning with kindergarten. Instead of worrying about her daughters dressing provocatively and behaving inappropriately with boys, she talked about the modest school uniforms they wore, and the single-gender classes her daughters attended.

She then began to discuss Islam, focusing on the commonalities it has with Christianity. The sales pitch had clearly begun. While in the previous section, the men had quoted over and over again sura from the Quran calling for violent jihad, the women's session focused on the "gentler" side of Islam.

The same imam who demanded that the men continue in the path of jihad did a complete 180-degree turn in this session, stressing instead the suras that promoted the "brotherhood" between Muslims, Christians and Jews. "After all, we worship the same God, and follow the teachings in the books he gave each of us. We are all the same, we are all People of the Book," he stressed.

The differences between the sessions were striking. Clearly the second session was a recruiting session.

Were the women aware of what was being taught in the first session? Certainly those women who spoke Arabic should have been.

The reason for concern is obvious: Two different doctrines are being promoted. One peaceful, friendly, warm and fuzzy doctrine is being used to draw people in, with a focus on the wellbeing of their children.

But the Arabic-speaking sessions clearly have an anti-American tone.

It shows clearly that as much as we'd like to pretend it hasn't, jihad has reached Small-Town, USA. This mosque isn't in Washington, D.C., or New York City. This is a small mosque in a small town in the deep South.

And if it's in this tiny little quiet southern town, it's probably in your hometown, too.

Saudi Arabia continues to open mosques across the country spreading the filth of Islam.

And that is the message everyone in this country needs to get. From the top down.

I seen last night on ABC that in 2 weeks they have a new movie event based on the 9-11 commission report. Wonder how they will portray the terrorists?

"A person who has the guts and gumption to sit in on that kind of discussion should also have the guts and gumption to air it out later on."

Well, not everyone can be as perfect as you.

That said, have no opinion if the story is true.

This is a highly intelligent woman, probably very assertive, and certainly one who was able to speak her mind.

It's not a matter of perfection, but one of simple common sense.

I can't figure out why she didn't ask the Imam about what she had heard. I would have.

Doing so would have blown her "cover". The Imam assumed so didn't understand Arabic and coveyed that to the others in the room. As a consequence, they assumed they could speak freely in Arabic without having the rabid conversion "overheard" by someone who might not be sympathetic to the message. She wasn't interested in finishing her day with a cut throat or a flaming gasoline shower.

lots of stuff to see when we look for it...:| LOTs of good info here, IMO:

"...All ICNA members are organized in small study groups of no more than eight people, called NeighborNets. As in a cult, these cells provide support and reinforcement for new recruits, who may have sought to fill a void in their lives. Its yearly convocations, patterned on the annual Tablighi Jamaat meetings in South Asia, now attract some 15,000 people.[50]"

Though I don't doubt for a second that this sort of thing goes on in mosques around the country, something about this article just doesn't ring true for me.

You obviously don't know squat about Laura Mansfield's background. If you did, you wouldn't display your ignorance with your reaction.

Hi zook-

She likely didn't talk to the Imam because she doesn't want to tip her hand that a caucasian woman seated in the back understands exactly what they're saying in Arabic amongst themselves. If the story happened exactly as narrated, I would encourage her to continue this same practice of attending the "friendly" meetings and arriving "early" to read her books.

Terrorism back in full swing
ISI-LeT nexus exposed

By G Parthasarathy

Is India prepared to face the challenge of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism within the country?

Barely a year ago, the former Director General of the ISI, Lt General Hamid Gul, told a friend of mine that the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) had succeeded in establishing over three hundred ‘sleeper cells’ to mount terrorist strikes in towns and cities across India. Similarly, I was also told by a former ISI chief that he was confident that the jihad in Kashmir would be made an issue of faith and religion in the minds of the Muslims of India. Another ISI chief proudly proclaimed that it was the aim of the ISI to “weaken India from within”. He said that he had no doubt that it would succeed in achieving this aim. Amongst the terrorist groups that Pakistan has used in its ‘proxy war’ against India, the Lashkar has played the most dangerous role. It has been involved in the attack on the Red Fort on December 26, 2000, and in several terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, including the attack on the Corps Headquarters and the State Assembly in Srinagar. It has also attacked the religious complexes in Akshardham and Ayodhya.

Despite continuing evidence of the links between the ISI and the LeT, successive Governments in New Delhi have not developed any coherent strategy to deal with the threat that this organisation poses. What exactly are the aims of the Lashkar-e-Taiba? Its parent body, the Markaz Dawa Al Irshad, was set up in 1987, inspired by the role of Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan. Like bin Laden, the Markaz received ISI and CIA support to fight Soviet forces in Afghanistan.

Its leader was a professor at the Lahore University of Engineering and Technology, Hafiz Mohammed Saeed. Receiving patronage from the ISI and bin Laden, Saeed had set up a 190-acre complex at Muridhke near Lahore, where he preached hatred of all ‘Kaffirs’, especially “Hindus, Jews and Christians”, who were declared “enemies of Islam”. Around 1996, the ISI started using Lashkar cadres for its ‘jihad’ in Kashmir. Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif had great regard for the Lashkar. His information minister, Mushahid Hussain (now secretary general of the pro-Musharraf Pakistan Muslim league), was a regular visitor to Muridhke.

Hafiz Saeed had also vowed that the objective of the LeT was not just to wage a jihad in J&K, but also to create three Muslim homelands, with Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir constituting one, the Muslims of North India constituting the second and the Muslims of South India forming the third. On February 18, 1996, Hafiz Saeed declared: “The jihad in Kashmir would soon spread to the entire India. Our mujahideen would create three Pakistans in India.”

On October 9, 1997, he claimed that after J&K was liberated, “Indian Muslims should be aroused to rise in revolt against the Indian Union so that India gets disintegrated”. A few months later, in February 1998, Osama bin Laden formed the ‘International Islamic Front for jihad against Jews and Crusaders’, aimed at mounting terrorist strikes against the American and Israeli interests. The Lashkar-e-Taiba became a founding member of this Front and proclaimed that its aim was to “unfurl the green flag of Islam in Washington, Tel Aviv and Delhi”. When the Lashkar-e-Taiba attacked the Red Fort in Delhi, Hafiz Saeed proudly boasted that he had succeeded in unfurling the green flag of Islam in New Delhi. Further, after the recent gunning down of Lashkar terrorists in New Delhi, it is now clear that the potential is being developed to attack targets ranging from Information Technology centres in Bangalore to the Indian Military Academy in Dehra Dun.

Muslim youth from all over the world have been indoctrinated by the LeT to fight against ‘Kaffirs’ all over the world. Its volunteers have fought in Bosnia and Chechnya, and have also joined the resistance against American forces in Iraq. The LeT’s cadres have been arrested in Australia and the United States. There is evidence that the London bomb explosions of July 7 were the handiwork of young men of Pakistani origin who had visited Muridhke.

Despite substantial evidence about the activities of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, neither the United States nor the UK declared it a terrorist organisation until the December 13 attack on India’s Parliament. Both these countries felt that they would be spared the wrath of this organisation by ignoring its terrorist activities in places like India, Bosnia and Chechnya. They also have turned a blind eye to the links that the Lashkar has developed in Saudi Arabia, from where it receives financial support.

Both the US and the UK take a rather charitable attitude when it comes to issues of terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and terrorist funding from Saudi Arabia. One hopes that they will learn some lessons on this score after the recent arrest of Pakistanis who had been trained by the Lashkar and had settled in California, and also in the light of the July 7 London bomb blasts.

New evidence has now emerged of increased ISI assistance to extremist and terrorist elements. It is well known that extremists of the Babbar Khalsa, including some involved in the assassination of the former Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Beant Singh, function out of the Dera Sahib Gurudwara in Lahore. Inciting Sikh pilgrims with slogans of ‘Khalistan’ has been a continuing feature of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Hence the keenness of General Musharraf for an Amritsar-Lahore bus service.

We are now seeing the revival of Babbar Khalsa activities in India, with bomb blasts in Delhi movie theatres and the reactivation of its armed cadres in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. This has come along with an increasing infiltration of terrorists across the Line of Control (LoC), despite efforts by India to limit such infiltration by fencing up the LoC and installing sensors along it. Pakistan is now set to step up its assistance to terrorist and separatist groups across India. Is New Delhi ready to meet this challenge?

Lorianne, excellent post.

One line really hit me, and it helps to exemplify the fact that Islam's status as a religion has morphed to that of a cult: "Two different doctrines are being promoted."

This is exactly the kind of behavior (aka sales pitch) that a cult would use to garner followers.

The civilized world needs to understand, quickly, that Islam is a movement - a movement as dangerous to our survival as was Nazism. Undoubtedly, it will be just as costly.

Lashkar means "army" in Dari and I suspect as well in Arabic as many Arabic words have migrated to the vernacular of many muslim countries.
