A Pakistani teen who embraced Christianity has escaped death at the hands of her family, who unsuccessfully demanded she recant her faith, an international ministry group says.
Voice of the Martyrs said the girl, identified only as Diana, now is in hiding for her life.
She grew up in a strict Islamic family in Pakistan, the group said, and her life was "typical" until she met a girl named Mary who was a Christian, and Diana decided to embrace the faith.
"When Diana's family learned that she had become a Christian, they repeatedly beat her and insisted she return to Islam," the organization, which ministers to the persecuted Christian church worldwide, said.
"But Diana refused. She was then forced to a local canal where her uncle put a pistol to her head and gave her one last chance to return to Islam. Diana replied, 'You can kill me if you want. I will not leave Christ,'" VOM confirmed.
"It was then," VOM said, "that Diana's uncle noticed an extremely poisonous black cobra swimming in the canal. Believing he could escape any prosecution for his niece's death, he threw her into the path of the cobra."
Miraculously, Diana, who could not swim, escaped and went into hiding, VOM said.
"She recently told Voice of the Martyrs, 'Jesus was crucified for us. Can we not endure some of the same for Him?"
Very profound. May all who claim Christ as their Savior ponder this comment.

Smart girl. She knows it's more important to be true to Him. He went through much for us.
This is a true miracle; reminds me of Shadrach, Mischach and Abednigo in the fiery furnace (forgive me if names are misspelled).
I just hope she made it out of Pakistan.
It's amazing when we compare and contrast this girl's faith and commitment to Christ to the Fox journalists who "converted" at the threat of death.
This girl had a lot more guts than Steve Centanni.

Apostasy is punishable by the death penalty in Islam. The Fox reporters who "converted" at gunpoint are now fair game.

It's hard to do. I believe I could stand up to those freaks. What would help me is knowing that I would be spending ETERNITY with Him. If my consequence was a beheading or some other ghoulish way to go, I'd be sickened but thinking about going to hell by denouncing Him to believe in the devil would allow me to remain loyal. I'd also be in prayer with Him, asking for strength to endure the horror. Some how I know He'd help me to do it.
I remember in the Bible when Stephen was being stoned to death ... he looked up and CHRIST was standing there ... waiting to personally greet him in heaven. I'm no where near as great as him but I believe He will NOT abandon His own in times such as that.

My deepest desire is that I will never deny my Lord no matter the circumstances. He will be my strength when I am weak.

Oh, the loving and beautiful religion embraced by her family just brings tears to my eyes. Such love.
As for those who condemn the Fox Journalists who said they converted to Islam under fear of death, their heads being chopped off. Please, do not be so quick to condemn them. Not too many can be as brave and couragous as this young lady. I have no doubt if they pray to Christ to forgive them for turning their back on Christ he would forgive them. Anyone remember Peter the night Jesus was taken into custody...He denied Christ as well. We are all imperfect souls.
