Student can wear Bush-mocking T-shirt: court
Herald Sun ^ | 31 August 2006

A US student who sued school officials after he was made to censor his T-shirt that labelled President George W Bush "Chicken-Hawk-In-Chief" and a former alcohol and cocaine abuser won an appeal yesterday to wear the shirt to school.

The 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favour of Zachery Guiles, who through his parents claimed his free speech rights had been violated.

School officials made him put duct tape over parts of his T-shirt that showed a Bush image surrounded by cocaine, a razor blade, a straw and a martini.

Guiles, who as a seventh grader in 2004 wore the T-shirt to Williamstown Middle High School in Vermont once a week for two months after purchasing it at an anti-war rally, appealed the case after a lower court ruled in favour of the school.

The school argued the images were offensive because they undermined the school's anti-drug message.

The T-shirt read "George W Bush" and "Chicken-Hawk-In-Chief" with a picture of the president's face wearing a helmet superimposed on the body of a chicken.

The back of the T-shirt showed lines of cocaine, a martini glass and smaller print that accused Bush of being a "Crook", "Cocaine Addict", AWOL", "Draft Dodger" and "Lying Drunk Driver".

The appeals court said while the T-shirt "uses harsh rhetoric and imagery to express disagreement with the president's policies and to impugn his character", the images depicted "are not plainly offensive as a matter of law".

The court agreed with the lower court that ruled Guiles' suspension from school should be expunged from his record.

Unfortunately for FReeper parents, our kids become idiots even though they should know better. My 14 year old defends Islam. :::sigh:::

Here's a scene from a future Oval Office for him then as the future President an a few members of his cabinet take a break and watch an intern make her "presentation".

WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I should clarify. He thinks the terrorists are just a few bad apples (despite the pages long list I printed for him of Muslim attacks throughout the world).

Islam is a perfectly acceptable religion. There are six types of jihad and "only one" says anything about killing infidels (geez, mom!).

Profiling is evil, and hundreds of Muslims were killed in the US after 9-11 (he didn't take me up on the challenge to find more than 5 incidents in a population of what, 300 million people?).

He doesn't throw McVey at me, only because he don't remember Oklahoma City well enough. I get to hear about the Crusades.

He also claims to be a Buddhist. He is, at heart, a sensible and reasonable kid. I think he's mostly just trying to irritate me and separate from mom. I give him information but I don't make a huge big deal out of it. I don't want to push him further into it.

I suggest Bush supporters (or even those who want to piss the Bush-haters off) wear shirts that support Bush.

I have 2 I wear often. One simply has a red 'W' in the upper left corner, the other is a green T with the messsage 'Go George' (as opposed to Go Green).

I get lots of comments of support, and a few quizzical comments on 'why would I wear that shirt?'.

I think the weird part about is those who voice comments of support do so under their breath, so to speak, and those who do not like the shirt are pretty vocal and seem to be offended by my support of the President.

I get the feeling that support for Bush is a 'dirty little secret' for many. It's probably more the silent majority's good manners than anything, but their muted responses usually catche me off guard.

I expect the loud expressions of disgust from the angry left.... but why so many timid, secretive whispers of support?

Too bad the little twerp does not live in Detroit. I think they are the first public school system in the country to require uniforms for all students.

Detroit Public Schools Dress Code

My daughter-in-law comes here from Canada to buy school uniforms for her kids.

Time to break out the Hitlary T-shirts and see how well this ruling works.

Yes, your kids can start with that shirt I've seen advertised that has a picture of Hillary with a circle-slash over her and the slogan "Re-defeat Communism 2008."

The worst part of FR to me now is the ones who are supposed to be on our side who are more than willing to hand this country over to the liberals to "teach the GOP a lesson."

It's not just on FR. Rush had a substitute host recently who featured a guest (sorry, I didn't catch the name) who was expounding this very plan.

It sickened me to hear it and certainly was not up to Rush Limbaugh show standards, even for a substitute host. IMO.

Yep, nothing warms the cockles like deliberately associating someone we don't like with a murderer. What could be better? /s

I wonder what would happen to a kid wearing a tee shirt that had something derogatory about X42? Something with his picture and a caption:

I got Monica on her knees and got a BJ in the Oral Orifice.
