The two Fox News staffers who were kidnapped in Gaza earlier this month were forced to convert to Islam at gunpoint, according to news reports. Fox's Steve Centanni said on Wednesday that he didn't know if he was officially a Muslim—"I don't know enough about Islam to know if it was official, or recognized." Well, is he a Muslim, or isn't he?

This is the closest I could find:

How come an apostate is killed in Islamic Shariah but there's no compulsion upon other non-Muslims in the State?

Q: How come an apostate is killed in Islamic Shariah but there's no compulsion upon other non-Muslims in the State? Why isn't he/she allowed to follow whatever religion they want? Jazakum'Allahu khairun. Answer 7676

A: There are two categories of people mentioned: an apostate and an original non-Muslim. The injunctions of the Shari’ah as supported by the Qur’aan and Hadith that is applicable to both of them differs. In other words, both of them do not fall under the same category.

The first one is an apostate or renegade, i.e. a Muslim person who has turned away from Islam and the second are those who are non-Muslims originally. The law for the first group of people, i.e. renegade is that firstly Islam will be presented once again to him and if he has any doubts or queries then these should be cleared out and he will be given a respite of 3 days. If he accepts Islam again, then fine otherwise he will be killed. This is substantiated by the noble Hadith of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) wherein he explicitly mentions, ‘Whosoever changes his Deen, then kill him’. This only apply to the males. A female renegade will not be killed, rather kept imprisoned until she accepts Islam.

As for the second group, when the Muslims conquer a non-Muslim land, they will first invite those people to Islam because of the narration of ibn Abbaas (Radhiallaahu Anhu), ‘No nation should be fought with until they are called to Islam.’ If the accept, then Muslims will not fight with them. And if they refuse, then they will be asked to pay Jizya (tax), if they refuse, this, then only will the Muslims fight them. This is also substantiated by Qur’aan, ‘Fight against those who believe not in Allah nor in the last day nor forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and his Messenger (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i.e. Islam) among the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) until they pay the Jizya (tax) with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.’ (Surah Tawbah Aayat29).

Doesn't this make you feel better?

The relevant issue: If he never "became" a Muslim, he can believe whatever he wants. If he did become a Muslim, it is the duty, according to the Koran, of every Muslim, everywhere in the world, to seek to murder him if he states he believes in anything un-Islamic.

"Well, if he gets a membership card in the mail, it's official."

Not sure about that. I got an AARP card in the mail but it didn't seem to make me retired.

If he gets a load of virgins when he dies, then yes, he's a Muslim. :)

I guess the Muslim who tipped off the UK plane bombing plot wasn't a Muslim..

He endangered fellow Muslims to protect the infidel, so he was already on his first steps down the path to being a non-Muslim.

Islam and free, modern civilization are incompatible. Islam will always seek to convert the world - it follows the same logic as Communism, that only a world revolution will suffice. Even if we were to isolate the Muslim countries and prevent any contact between Muslims and the civilized world, they would find a way to take offense and try to attack us. It's all or nothing, I'm afraid. This world ain't big enough for the both of us.

Get in an SUV and run over a lot of people. If the MSM ignores your killing spree, you are officially a Muslim.

We have a winnah!!!

I've been posing the question: Did either recant or renouce their 'conversion'.

That statement by Centanni answers my question.

That's a good point. I got a Capital One card and I'm not a pillaging viking, either.

well, if he gets abducted again, he can just say he is muslim and he gets a free "no head chop" pass.

Wouldn't that depend on who captured him (Sunni or Shi'ite) and whether his conversion was a Sunni or Shi'ite?

Al-Zarqawi didn't seem to make much distinctions in Iraq; he just liked to kill bunches of people, it seems.

Man, though - if I thought getting a Capital One card could turn me into a pillaging Viking, I might have to take another look at that application form...

It all comes back to one thing. Islam is predicated on the notion that the world is subject to Islam whether it knows it or not, and muslims are called upon to make it clear to the world.

I, on the other hand, think that islam is full of crap if they think that I will ever pay their tax or speak their words.

If Centanni is wondering whether he is officially muslim, he needs to start rethinking his whole life, because he apparently doesn't know what he was before.

Steve, baby, you just learned lesson #1. Conversion by the sword is not only recognized: It's a sacrament to these clowns. Question is, do you believe you converted?

Why should a Christian resolve not to lie to a muzzie to save his life, on pain of death? They'll lie to us in a heartbeat, not just to save themselves but to kill us. I don't think it's a sin to lie to those animals.

Actually, that's a good question to ask CAIR. Let the whole country hear what they have to say about it.

I thought that Islamic law included divorce where all you have to do is utter, three times, "I Divorce You!"

If that's the method that Centanni can divorce himself drom his actions and all is:

Okey Dokey!

CAIR has one purpose: to convert the United States to an Islamic state.

They should be banned as a terrorist organization. I have no idea why they are still allowed to function within our borders.

I don't think he meant he was unsure so much in the spiritual sense as in the legal sense, whether it was recognized by muslims as legally binding. In American law, we know that a contract made under duress is not valid, but apparently that is not so under Islamic law. They seem to take the view that you received a valuable consideration (keeping your head on your shoulders) for entering into a contract (conversion) with them, and so you are legally bound whether or not your heart was really in it. And the penalty for breaking this contract is death.
