Why abduct us? We cede our values for free
Chicag Sun-Times ^ | 3 Sept 06 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 09/03/2006 6:09:07 AM PDT by rellimpank

Did you see that video of the two Fox journalists announcing they'd converted to Islam? The larger problem, it seems to me, is that much of the rest of the Western media have also converted to Islam, and there seems to be no way to get them to convert back to journalism.

Consider, for example, the bizarre behavior of Reuters, the once globally respected news agency now reduced to putting out laughably inept terrorist propaganda.

Everyone else ought to put a sock in it.

I wasn't around for the Revolution either, so maybe you'll think I have no standing to ask this question but ...

Whom do you have greater respect for: Patrick Henry, or Steve Centanni?

Fox, and all of the media have "converted to Islam". They are going to great lengths to promote Islam. The FCC should re-classify these "news" organizations as purely religious broadcasts. And there are many here posting that it is OK for the US media to promote Islam. Unbelievable.

I've never understood why some folks insist on signing their name, even though the posts clearly contain the poster info.

Outside of that - post to me in something resembling logical thought and I'll reply. Your question has zero meaning re: my conversations/posts here.

Read them all. Comprehend. THEN reply. It's really quite simple.

Bump to a great story by Mark Steyn in the "Chicago Sun Times."

Bump also to post #13 from the "Washington Times."

The "silence" is deafening.

While that question may be academic, it is not unimportant. It is something all of us needs to think about.

They had a gun pointed at their head.

The cameraman did state however what they wanted from the west. He said the terrorist said it would just be easier if the west converted to Islam and there wouldn't be anymore terrorism.

That one statement says everything you need to know right there.

These "forced conversions' show why islam is in truth the most brittle of all faiths and in fact, is really a cult.

''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

Any belief system imposed on people through fear, intimidation and coercion is indeed brittle. Nazism and communism are of the same ilk. The difficulty with combating islam however is it is purely ideological. there are no national boundaries or identifiable group of people centrally located. They are everywhere in the world and have allegiance to nothing but allah. We have difficulty even identifying the enemy let alone being sufficiently ruthless enough to defeat them at this point. God help us.

Absolutely incredible. So much for the the "peaceful" Muslims we often hear about. One has to wonder if they are being held hostage in their own religion by the extremists.

At some point the fight will move closer to home, and we won't be able to solve the problem by pushing buttons or deploying volunteer soldiers to handle it for us. Are Americans willing to kill and die for our freedoms, or will we simply bow down and accept Islam in exchange for a long, peaceful life?

You are not giving credit to the American people, at all. Those are Americans, volunteers, yes!, our sons, daughters, brothers and fathers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The American people, despite many lies and much propaganda from the still virulant socialist left elected GWB in 2004 the second time by a larger margin, specifically to continue fighting this war.

And let us not forget the brave passangers (led by a software guy) who defeated the attempt to destroy our capitol on flight 93.

Should the Moslems hordes ever be stupid enough to really try to do anything on American soil they will find it a ready grave.

Maybe you should have the cajones to post to someone you're talking about.

Your question was ridiculous. From the beginning, I merely pointed out that it was pretty lame and shallow to be passing judgement on somebody who has been through something that not one person here has. And who is to say how a person would be feeling at this point? Maybe they are under instruction not to make any public statements one way or another.

Point is - nobody knows for sure, especially those hiding behind their computer keyboards and passing judgement.

So how in the world does that make me need to choose between the reporter and Patrick Henry? Answer: it doesn't. They are two different people from two different eras, two different situations - in fact, one has ZERO to do with the other.

This thread contains many fine examples of the "dark side" of FR. Folks who do nothing but pass judgement and insult those who aren't "true conservatives" in their eyes, or dare to point out their ridiculous behavior.

That's almost a literal restatement of Faust's bargain with the devil:

"When to the moment I shall say
'Linger awhile! so fair thou art!'
Then mayst thou fetter me straightway
Then to the abyss will I depart!"

Steyn is so good in so many ways.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, and you're making this much too personal. Centanni, by virtue of his profession and his face-time on TV, is a public figure working in the public forum and thus, his actions invite discussion.

That's just how it is.

But Patrick Henry didn't live in such different times as we do now. It's pretty short-sighted to think we're all so much more sophisticated than our ancestors of a mere 10 generations ago.

Thanks for the ping. This is yet another revelation that Islam is anything but the religion of peace. What other faith doesn't condemn its heretics, especially ones that do so much damage to the global perception of the faith? I thought Islam is supposed to be evangelical. They just use different "tools" of conversion than we do, I suppose.

I wonder how many people today could even name the faith that the Branch Davidians claimed to represent. Every Christian voice in America dismissed them as a nut-job cult. Condemnation came from every Christian corner. Not so with worldwide Muslims and their little problem (which is now our problem). Every time I look at TV and see that fat guy from CAIR I want to puke. :)

The media sold it's protection to preserve it's leftist slant. The best example comes from the 1970s Nicaragua brutal Somoza regime. Some articles attacked it but some were leaning toward outright support. Then Somoza's death squads killed a couple of reporters. After that, his regime couldn't even buy positive ink. The regime fell. The media let it be known not to mess with people who buy their ink by the barrel. The message was received worldwide loud and clear. That became the reporters shield.

Now scumbags can do anything they want to reporters and innocents. The press response is "thank you sir, may I have another." The slime knows they can get away with murder and still keep their good standing with the media.

>Should the Moslems hordes ever be stupid enough to really try to do anything on American soil they will find it a ready grave.<

You mean like building their Mosques and training camps in our midst?… Establishing businesses in our towns and cities and using the money to support their brethren around the world? Illegally sneaking into this country to increase their numbers slowly year after year? Supporting and promoting the leftist agenda? Things like that?
