Well, it seems that my briefing have gotten a little behind schedule, and I apologize for that! In self-defense, however, I have to say that things have been hectic.
Since the last update, a lot of things have happened, most of which Linda Eddy has already put up on the website. But let me just mention a few things that have happened and are still happening; we are on the MOVE!
First, we have confirmed that the Oct. 1st rally will be indoors in a climate-controlled environmentin the Cambria County War Memorial Arena.
Next, we have lined up four speakers who will, as a group, present a realistic view of where America stands in the War on Terror. We will have a survivor of the collapse of the World Trade Center; the father of the hero of Flight 93; the fathers of a Marine and a soldier who gave their lives in Iraq; and the father of a Marine currently being held in the brig at Camp Pendleton, CA. These men represent a transition from near-victim to first-sacrifice to national commitment to political opportunism in the War on Terror.
We have also signed a great country-rock band from western PA called Whiskey Grin. When I heard them at the Rolling Thunder Support the Troops Rally in Beaver last week, I realized that we had to have them at the rally. They have promised me that they will develop a repertoire appropriate for the occasion.
The most significant accomplishment the rally committee has achieved has been to secure the services of Quinn and Rose, two of the top talk-show hosts in the country, to be co-emcees of the rally! I am tickled pink (no relation to Code Pink) about this stroke of good fortune! You can check out their "War Room with Quinn & Rose" website here.
I cant reveal any names, but suffice it to say that we think we are close to having a really BIG name come to Johnstown to be our keynote speaker! Stay tuned
Were going to have one tremendous rally, folks, and itll be fun to go head-to-head with the Murtha rally that is being held the day before. Those people claimed victory by having a canned, bought-and-paid-for rallyette that was put on at the same time we held our dignified little press conference on August 3rd. To read some of the media reports, you would think that they had had a cast of thousands!
I personally counted EVERY head (plus a couple pairs of toes on the edge of the frame) in an overhead photo taken at the height of their rally. There were 193 people there, including sound technicians, platform dignitaries, media, and sound technicians. Big deal, huh? And our little press conference down the road was blithely going its merry way doing what it was designed to doannounce our rally!
John Murtha is going to lose this election, and YOU are the reason! Your financial and personal support continues to amaze me, and I ask you to keep it up. I should tell you that EVERY DOLLAR you donate goes into the program. This is truly a no-frills campaign. And the two full-time, starvation-wages employees we have are really going all-out to organize our Operation Street Corner effort. Youll soon see the fruits of their hard work. [read more about OSC here]
And if you live in or near the 12th District, PLEASE get involved in OSC; it will make a critical difference in the vote count on Nov. 7th! Contact us through the website for details, or send me an e-mail; Ill forward it to Nikki Sheppick and her sidekick Laura Hough, who will get in touch with you.
Finally, please send our URL (http://www.bootmurtha.com/ ) to everyone you know who has e-mail; we want to have more people at the rally than Johnstown can handle!
Boot Murtha!
Larry Bailey
President
I would hope so, there's no reason not to be.
Will Diana Irey be at the Rally?
I don't know. The rally is an effort by VFTT, under the PAC (political action committee) umbrella. There cannot, by law, be any coordination between the Irey campaign and VFTT. I don't know what the laws are regarding her potentially appearing there... or nearby.
BTTT
"Be advised there are some folks in Johnstown who don't think we have any business coming there to boot Murtha."
Be advised there are some folks in Johnstown who think Bethlehem Steel is coming back any day now. ;)
ROTFLMAO!!
One has to expect many see no wrong in what Murtha has done, even for those that actually understand what he has been trying to pull off. Lots of un-educated folks to deal with, and those that can never open their minds.
YEAH, that's what I was thinking. Best she not attend.
: )
Buuump!
B U M P
That's her call. If it's illegal, the choice is easy. And if it's unclear, I personally would err on the side of caution and stay away.
But if it's legal, I'd be working that crowd like crazy! :-)
I hope it happens, Murtha is a skunk.
Bump
I'll take some unpleasantries over having a sparse turnout. Given our very weak history around here with rallies, I'm holding my breath on attendance.
