Letter: Burns greatest senator in Montana's history

Montanans have a great opportunity to keep Sen. Conrad Burns. Burns has done more for Montana than any other senator in the history of the state. He has funded veterans' clinics, well staffed with local MDs, and rural medical facilities throughout Montana. Burns is a passionate advocate for the citizens of Montana. He has common sense; is not afraid to say what is on his mind; and when he is wrong, he will admit it. Do Democrats do that? He is a true advocate for agriculture, small and large business, free markets, our constitutional rights, and, yes, he is a warm and considerate human being.

He is a hard worker. Look at his position number 33 in seniority in committees. No other Republican senator from Montana has ever succeeded to this position. As a matter of fact, Burns is the only Republican senator to be elected since Zales N. Ecton in 1947.

Jon Tester is one of those who should be supporting Burns, Burns has done more for Tester than any other Montana senator, just by supporting agriculture. Before you vote, read Burns' voting record and find out the truth. It will set you free from what is said and not true. If you do that, you will support and vote for Burns even if you are a Democrat or an independent. The truth is we need Burns as our senator in Washington. Important? You bet!

The embattled Burns does have his defenders in Billings, but what are they saying in Butte and Great Falls?

I believe that Lake County (NW side) will go for Burns.

Trouble is the cities like Missoula, Bozemen are pretty saturated with newcomers to the state and a lot of these newcomers aren't familiar with Burns or are the "We'll move to Montoland after we sell our ridiculously high priced home and buy twice the home at a quarter of the cost on five acres tree huggers" who are going to probably vote Tester.

Its basically old Montana vs New Montana.

I am not a Montana native but have lived here for 36 years. Montana is being flooded by left wing newcomers coming from God only know where. It is a source of deep dissapointment for me to see how the politics of the state is changing because of the flood of these transplants. I can only hope and pray that Burns will overcome the odds. Testor is just another Lamont. JessM

I don't have the numbers, but quite a few newcomers here are conservatives, my wife and I among them. We are probably assumed to be liberal by those who don't know us. My wife is Korean-Chinese and we have a VW Westfalia Camper and a Honda Insight Hybrid.

LOL- that hybrid must go over big. You may want to slap an NRA and W bumper sticker on it.
