Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
I heard most of CAAB...missed Heather Wilson...but, I can't listen to her talk..she talks really weird.
I haven't really liked her..but when I heard the House Bill was called the Bush/Wilson bill...I figured it must be okay.
When Pelosi strutted her stuff to the microphone...I changed the channel..she NEVER has anything I want to hear.
I thought about that..as I turned the channel...What IF by some freak "joke", Pelosi or even Hillary DID become POTUS....I wouldn't EVER be able to listen to a speech by the POTUS...EVER!!
I guess I would have to wait until the transcript is put up on FR...because I just couldn't listen to their voices OR their syntax..or look at their goofy faces.
If they take ratings of SOTU addresses by POTUS....I bet they would have the WORST ratings ever...LOL
On Motion to Recommit with instructions
Yeas - 202
Nea - 221
NV - 10
THAT was a close one.
You know...I keep hearing one of the dems' campaign slogans is that the Republicans are "rubber stamps for President Bush".
First of all...I think that is great myself..LOL
Second of all...as someone who watches the Senate regularly, and the House sometimes....if I had the time and inclination...I bet I could go back over ALL of the votes in the last 6 years...
And there would be MORE votes where all of the dems have voted the SAME....than, votes where all of the Republicans have voted the same as the President wants.
I just have to laugh at that "rubber stamp" line...when I think of Chafee (who voted AGAINST Bush's detainee bill tonight, btw), McCain, Hagel, Graham, Snowe, Collins.....
These calls on Cspan remind me of an answering machine messages
Bill passes ..
Yeas - 232
Nea - 191
Passage of the Warrantless Wiretapping bill...232-191...YIPPEEE!
I don't know how anyone can listen to those calls on C-span....I just can't.
For one thing...it is so funny to hear someone go on and on getting really upset...and the person at the desk is straightening papers, and cleaning the desk, and picking lint off of the jacket....LOL
LOL .. I get a laugh out of that too
Well I need to head out again .. kids
I just wanted you to know...that I went and checked the votes for today...and on all of the amendments, the final Detainee Bill...AND the cloture vote on the fence bill...
Chafee voted with the DEMS...ALL of them.
Actually, there were six votes today and Ms Chaffeeee voted with the dims every time. Wonder if we can trade him for Lieberman? At least we know Joe is Dem. and can rely on him for a vote here and there.
I find it SO disgusting that that nincompoop who is running for reelection as a REPUBLICAN, is STILL voting with the DEMS all of the time!!
He continues to shoot the finger at President Bush...BUT, the RNC is still backing his candidacy.
Are you listening to Hellary screaming about poor black women and Aids ??
As long as I could stand it....not the whole speech.
All I know is that the bill they are debating is trying to keep the lion's share of funds for AIDS in New York...and she isn't about to let it be shared with other states...
she is back up .. demanding the Breast Cancer bill to be passed right away with unnanmous consent
It was objected to .. now she is complaining .. basicially saying Congress hates women and wants to see them die of breat cancer
Now that is one I wish I hadn't missed...seeing her NOT get her way...
Coburn is rebuting Hellary's comments
