Michigan Governor: DeVos 48%, Granholm 46%
Rasmussen Reports ^ | 09/07/06

Michigan's edge-of-the-seat battle for Governor remains as competitive as ever, with Republican challenger Dick DeVos now edging out Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm 48% to 46%. Last month, Granholm had the edge by a percentage point.

The news for Democrats is a bit better when it comes to the state's Senate race.

Granholm is a Democratic incumbent in an election year when the national mood is tilting against Republicans. But thanks largely to Michigan's troubled economy she hasn't been able to reach the 50% level of support all year.

Just 24% of Michigan voters rate the economy as "good" or "excellent," Thirty-eight percent (38%) call it "fair" while another 38% say "poor."

As a result, Granholm's base is not secure. Though DeVos attracts 90% of GOP voters, just 78% of Democrats now cast their lot with the Governor.

Meanwhile, 51% trust the Democrats more on economic policy, versus 36% who trust the President more. But this preference for Democratic economics doesn't necessarily translate into support for the incumbent Democratic Governor. Among those who trust Congressional Democrats on economic matters, 22% support Devos.

On a personal basis, Governor Granholm is viewed "very favorably" by 27% and "very unfavorably" by 22%. However, those numbers are nearly reversed when it comes to her Job Approval rating--23% "strongly approve" of her performance, and 27% "strongly disapprove."

The telephone survey of 500 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports August 31, 2006. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

She's hot as all get out, but I want to see her broken politically and later found eating scraps out of a dumpster behind the KFC.

I hope Michigan voters will realize just how much Granholm has not personally invested in the economy of Michigan. The Devos name is all over West Michigan in gracious gifts and businesses--all in an effort to cause the economy and opportunities of Michigan to increase. Can someone tell me where Jennifer Granholm has her name posted in such gifts to Michigan?

I just want the following answered by the canadian socialist feminazi governor....in 2002, when she took office, the state budget was balanced ( for the 8th year in a row ) and there was 1.2 BILLION (with a B) in the rainy day fund. Where did all that money go, and why is the budget not balanced?

It's possible the Michigan voters
have witnessed what has happened
in other states wherein a woman
was elected Governor. Viz:
Arizona's Janet Napolitano, pre-Bush
era Texas' Ann RIchards. OTOH,
Gov. Linda Lingle (Republican)
of Hawaii is a true example of how
fed up with the existing Administration
a State has to be! As an Illinoisian,
I'm waiting to see what happens here in
November between Rod Blagojavich and
Judy Baar Topinka. I don't want to
vote for her, but...

In essence, I guess I'm repeating what
I've said for years...the U.S. is NOT
ready for a woman President, especially
one named Clinton.

Not being sexist--but, I believe that the business climate in Michigan will not improve as long as a Democrat woman is Governor. Businesses who wish to invest want a stable economic environment which Michigan has not been for the last 3 years. Previous to her arrival, Michigan had a booming economy under the leadership of an able Republican Governor who happened to be a male. I think voters in Michigan must look at the fact that Devos is a businessman-this may give a settling to the future growth of Michigan. If Granholm is kept in office-Michigan will be dead last in jobs and first in every form of suffering/misery index.

"...Can someone tell me where Jennifer Granholm has her name posted in such gifts to Michigan?"

Relatively speaking, she did come up with her "Cool City" initiative. Brilliance!

She reports in her campaign television ads that she has pursued gas station owners that price gouge the customers.

And let's not forget her communicative skills, she speaks to her constituents with the inflection and tone of a kindergarden teacher.

If I were a business leader and wanted to invest large amounts of capital in a new location to further my business, I'd pick Michigan...(sarcastic laughter and knee slapping).

If the election is close on election day, Granholm will win--they will just keep the precints in Detroit open late or they won't report certain precincts until the know how many votes they need to win.

No doubt it will be a close one. I t seems things have really heated up in the past few weeks, and I just read an article that DeVos is having his lawyers attempt to block an ad from the MI Democratic party.

Apparently the ad highlights DeVos' days at Alticor and the investment of hundreds of millions into a Alticor facility in China and then laying off 1,000 MI workers in restructuring. If the undecided voters latch on to this, it could really hurt DeVos, especially in a close election like this.
