Kyoto protocol: Adapt or fry

10:00 10 September 2006
From New Scientist Print Edition. Michael Reilly

Is it all over for Kyoto? Should we accept that global warming is inevitable and plan accordingly?

Yes, says Frances Cairncross, president of the British Association for the Advancement of Science (BA) which held its annual festival in Norwich, UK, this week.

On Monday Cairncross described the Kyoto protocol as "ineffectual" and called for the world to accept that "a hotter, drier world" is coming - even if everyone fulfils their obligations under Kyoto and pegs levels of carbon dioxide back below the 1990 baseline. "Adaptation policies have had far less attention than mitigation," she told the BA.

Now Cairncross is saying the UK should prepare for the inevitable by developing drought-resistant crops, constructing flood defences and perhaps even banning dwellings close to sea level.

These are the same chickens who tell us that the sky is falling because their thermometer ticked a bit but are completely unwilling to recognize the danger posed by Ismalofascists trying to bomb us back to the stone age. Then again, maybe this fits their agenda and they want us to stick our heads in the sand about bombs but run around panicked about the temperature of the earth.
Either way they are totally nuts.

Kyoto is authoritarian BS designed to empower a ruling elite and grow utopian-socialistic tendrils into the governing organs of all globally-connected societies.

The global warming that is occurring is caused by the "heat-island" effect and reduction of "moist" land, not CO2.

The more concrete we pour and the more buildings we construct, the more engines that run, and the more airconditioners that pour out heat then the greater the heating of cities and civilized areas. (an affect that has been well established and explains why cities are 4-10 degrees warmer than rural areas. It is also ignored by the communists).

Also, related, Surface moisture (like that in fields) is reduced due to construction, roads, water projects (drainage, canals), farming and civilization. Less land with surface moisture means the dry ground gets hotter since the moisture would otherwise evaporate and cool the land naturally. now there is more land area that radiates more heat and has nothing to do with CO2.

This helps explian why the temperature increases are at surface levels and not in upper atmosphere (where the CO2 does its "damage"?)

Greenland is just waiting for the temperatures to heat up again so she can be green again.

The Earth's climate has been changing for as long as it has existed, long before humans were around. Yet liberals want us to believe that climate change is entirely the result of human activity.

I really, really hate going to the fur coast as sometimes the fur gets over everything. I much prefer the beaches with just plain old sand.

Countries that introduce Kyoto Protocol targets are hurting. It is very expensive for small business, and for the middle class. Its driving their economies down fast.
