Sen. Feingold faults Bush's war language

Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold (news, bio, voting record) called on President Bush to refrain from using the phrase "Islamic fascists," saying it was offensive to Muslims and has nothing to do with global terrorists fighting the United States.
"We must avoid using misleading and offensive terms that link Islam with those who subvert this great religion or who distort its teachings to justify terrorist activities," Feingold said Tuesday in a speech to the Arab American Institute on Capitol Hill.
The Wisconsin senator, a potential 2008 presidential candidate, said the label "Islamic fascists" makes no sense and doesn't help the U.S. effort to combat terrorism.
"Fascist ideology doesn't have anything to do with the way global terrorist networks think or operate, and it doesn't have anything to do with the overwhelming majority of Muslims around the world who practice the peaceful teachings of Islam," Feingold said.
In seeking to explain the term, the White House referred to comments made last week by homeland security adviser Fran Townsend.

Feingold is nuts. There are four schools for reading the Koran (and the other materials contained in the Hadiths). One of those schools has ALWAYS placed emphasis on the totalitarianism and violence. It is considered as legitimate as the other three schools. If there's anything insulting to Islam here it's that Feingold is telling the Moslem world that one of the four schools has "hijacked Islam", which is about as ridiculous as saying "the Pope has hijacked Christianity".
I guess Russ is rubbing his hands together in glee, while he thinks about all the Saudi slush funds that are headed his way.

It's *exactly* "Islam" that those terrorists *use* to justify all that they do. And she's saying you can't refer to Islam when talking about those terrorists or when trying to explain to the public what these terrorists are all about.

The correct term is "Islamic Fundamentalists". The incorrect term "Islamic fascists" implies that the evil of the ideology is some alien thing that was arbitrarily grafted onto Islam by European outsiders.

Russ Feingold's very good at telling people what they can and can't say. After all he teamed up with John McCain to take away part of our First Amendment "freedom of speech rights " with the McCain\Feingold Bill, so why would he want to stop now ???
