“Embryo-Safe” Experiment Just another Stem Cell Fraud
Townhall.com ^ | September 7, 2006 | Michael Fumento

The fierce public debate over killing human embryos to create lines of embryonic stem cells is over; tout fini; THE END. It was buried with a stake thrust through its heart by a study published in the world’s most prestigious science magazine, Nature. Trust the media:

“Stem Cells Created With No Harm to Human Embryos” (Washington Post)

“In New Method for Stem Cells, Viable Embryos” (New York Times)

“Embryos Spared in Stem Cell Creation” (USA Today)

"“Stem Cell Advance Spares Embryos” (L.A. Times)

On second thought, don’t trust the media.

In fact none of the 16 embryos involved in the study by medical director Robert Lanza of Advanced Cell Technology (ACT) survived. ...... snip
. ......ACT stock suddenly shot up 500%......"

This is the only place I've heard about the big jump in their stock after the initial (false) report by the ACT guys. The hasty endorsement by some periodicals was to be expected, and you won't hear any more about the blunder from the MSM.

I really appreciate Fumento's succint, meaty style of writing.
Whatever you think of the content, it is VERY well referrenced. This short article has about 26 links in it.

Funny. I thought the debate ended when the FDA made Plan B an over-the-counter drug. It kills human embryos, too. Do it yourself at home.

It was the journal editors who screwed up by implying that the embryos were not destroyed. The authors of the article specifically stated they destroyed the embryos in their cell extraction protocol.

Scientists lied?

Scientists lied???!!!!!!!!!

How can this be? I've always been told that scientists are only interested in fact, that they use the Scientific MethodTM to ensure that only truth comes out of their laboratories. I have been assured time and time again that the worldview of the scientists never enters into what they do.

How will I survive, how will the world survive this heresy?

Shalom.

I don't like federal funding of stem cells and other medical research. Besides moral grounds for embryonic research, if there are potential cures in stem cells, companies will fund the research. The problem with government funding, is that scientists could ulitmately know that there is no cures to be found in stem cells, but continue working because they are on the government dole. The scientist will make it seem like the cure is "just around the corner."

A company will seek results, while the government would continue to pour money into a dead issue for years.

I don't care about a few cells, period. No matter where they came from, nor how they are disposed. I shed more cells everytime I cough.

Sheesh.

Same intensity, and logic, of the PETA and ELF folks, if you ask me.

Oh gosh, that's a really bad coverage of this experiment. Try going here for a better explanation of what exactly is going on.

Looks like Mr. Fumento's lying to you too. See post #9 for the rest of the story. . .

Yep, this article, too, is misleading. Single cells are commonly removed from embryos during genetic testing without (apparently) harming them; there have been many babies born from these embryos. The breakthrough was that stem cell lines can be cultured from these single cells.
