WHO-TV September 7th, 2006--A report released by the Polk County Medical Examiner says that 18-year-old Matthew Stegman died from multiple stab wounds. He also suffered blunt force trauma to the head, arms, and chest. Now police say his murder may be tied to some sort of devil worship. Des Moines Police Sergeant Todd Dykstra said, "What investigators believe or know is that some type of ritual was performed prior to the homicide." That ritual was possibly performed by the five people police arrested and charged with first degree murder. All five were arrested at the same Des Moines apartment building earlier this week. Police wouldn't disclose if it waswhat they found or what suspects told them that lead them to believe this homicide could be tied to satanic worship. They also would not elaborate on the details of the ritual. Police did say the five people in custody planned to lure Stegman to the cemetery. Friends of Matt Stegman said they knew the five alleged killers and they said they even heard some of them talk about devil worship in the past. But they said Stegman, however, was not involved in any of that.

The update in the news today (9/16/06) is that these five murderers were practicing Wiccans. The stabbing took place at night in Woodland Cemetary near downtown Des Moines. The article is in the Des Moines Register, which does not allow posting of its articles.
The title is NOT the same as the one in the article.
Are we positive there was no one named Muhammed involved?
I am not saying wiccan is harmless or that I completely trust it, but people of all religions commit murder. I have known several wiccans and even though I think its kinda wacky, I don't think its murderouse/criminal wacky. Tree hugging founded out of bitterness towards Chirsinity wacky yes, but not murdering wacky.
Amazing...EVEN Wiccans commit murder. I guess they're no different then anyone else.
So if a Wiccan (or a few Wiccans) commit a murder, the entire religion is harmful and deadly? Then we need to worry about Christians, Catholics, Jews, etc... because I'm betting we can find a few of them in the last few months that have committed murder.
Sorry, first article post - here is the article title: "Police Say A Ritual Preceded Cemetery Murder."
I wanted to make sure people got the Wiccan connection.
Actually, I know quite a few Wiccans. Can't help but know some, living in New Orleans. They're about as deluded as they come, and as a group, not the sharpest knives in the drawer... but violent? Ahhhhhhh no. This has "isolated incident" written all over it.
Hmmm . . . let's see here we have Islamic extremists that toppled the World Trade Center. We have our own home grown crazies that blew up the Morrow Federal Building in OKC and then there's Pat Robertson. Should we judge an entire religion by a few of its worst adherents ???
There is no Wiccan connection. It's not even mentioned in the article. BTW, most people usually put additional comments in parentheses so it spares any confusion and double posting.
Wiccans are not devil worshipers. These people are Satanists. Wiccans are no more likely to murder someone than Christians and maybe even less likely.
Fox Mulder, please pick up a white paging phone. Fox Mulder, to the white paging phone.
Yes, people of all faiths commit murder, but very few of those faiths have ritualistic murder as part of their faith. Well, very few except for Islam.
That f***ing figures. Last year my son had a bus driver who claimed she was a wiccan. We reported it to the bus company. All this tolerance stuff is just not acceptable anymore.
When do the "Head-Huntin' Cannibals" from New Guinea
get their Rights ?;0)
What a dumb comment. This murder was committed during the actual PRACTICE of the Wiccan religion, not some renegade individual who happens to profess belief and attend meetings. And why so anxious to excuse the witch murderers by dragging other religions into it?
I'm not excusing it at all. Murder is murder. And many have killed in the name of God, thinking their action will be excused...
...so they dragged him into a cemetary at night and stabbed him to death in a ritualistic killing.
Agreed - but the original point was the Wiccans kill in the name of their God too. That's all.
