Why is the New York GOP Turning its back on John Faso?
JulieJ

The Powers that Be wisely decided to dump William Weld, the former liberal governor of Massachusetts, in favor of John Faso, conservative Republican. Now they have turned their backs on him giving a pass to Eliot Spitzer, who wants to run for president one day.

John Faso was nearly elected controller in heavily Democratic New York State three years. Had George Pataki given him a push, he would have defeated Alan Hevesi, a man with tons of baggage. Faso was even endorsed by several Democratic clubs. Now that he is running against Eliot Spitzer, he is being ignored. I don't hear anybody phoning WABC Radio to discuss his candidacy. Ed Koch has predicted 12 years of Eliot Spitzer - Heaven help us! Can anything be done to help John Faso, who would be an excellent governor?

New York Republicans are too involved in the takeover of the Republican National Committee to be involved in any actual local or regional races. They must push Rudy Giuliani down everyone't throats in time for 2008, party welfare be damned.

Why? Because NY is hopelessly over the edge.

"Why is the New York GOP Turning its back on John Faso?"

Because they are Democrats

There is NO such thing as the GOP in NY.

Spencer is capable of giving Hillary fits in the senate race, gets ZERO support.

Pataki is nuttier than John Kerry.

Just being pragmatic here, Spitzer is going to win in a walk. Faso may very well be an excellent candidate, but he will end up like Pataki, ineffectual. Spitzer too, will be ineffectual. Who does he think he is...the governor?

Huh, like the governor of New York actually has any say on what goes on in New York. Sheldon Silver (D/-Manhattan) is the Assembly Majority Leader (and the actual dictator) and Spitzer is going to have to go through him.

Spitzer will have a certain honeymoon with Silver, but there will come a time where he will actually think he is the governor, and cross Silver. Then he's will have the same trouble, Cuomo and Pataki have had....the delusion that there actually had some power as governor.

New York Governor, is actually a figurehead position much like the British monarchy.

They are in bed with the Demos. I have not been this disgusted in years. It's bad enough that they gave us Howard Mills against Schmuck Schumer. Faso is actually a decent candidate and they act as if he didn't exist. Spitzer is atrocious - he is a monster - with a bloated ego.

I couldn't care less about the NY GOP. The only thing that matters is the state senate. If the state senate falls to the Dems then Republicans can kiss their Upstate congressional seats good-bye when a smiling Eliot Spitzer and Sheldon Silver redraw the districts to make them Democrat-held.

Yep, Pataki RUINED the NYS GOP state committee by installing his own butt boys, Treadwell & now Minerik.

Faso is a conservative republican and Pataki would pass as a liberal democrat, thus they will not support Faso as pataki still controls the GOP statwide organization which is comprised of 70 year olds who are patronage whores and couldn't get Mickey Mouse elected as dog catcher at Disney World.

Very true - and I blame Pataki for Faso's narrow loss to Hevesi.

The New York GOP is a strange organization. There are some great people in it and some genuine conservatives. But generally it is composed of machine politicians and hacks. Think "Nelson Rockerfeller".

The New York Conservative Party is where the real GOP hides out.

Ray Meier (of the 47th State Senate district) is a good ol' fashioned conservative for the most part. He is in a tough race for U.S. congress to replace the retiring liberal Republican Sherwood Boehlert. Hopefully he'll pull this off. If he does then that's one more House seat we keep in the GOP column in November.

The Pataki group and the RINOs will not allow a conservative to become governor - they would rather lose to a bleeding liberal like Eliot Spitzer, a man who supports partial birth abortion. Revolting!

This is a very scary prospect!!!

What good is a 'machine' politician if it cant do anything when you turn the crank? :-)

FWIW. On NYGOP website top page is ....

"NYGOP Spotlight:
John Faso, J. Christopher Callaghan & Jeanine Pirro

Please visit our Gubernatorial Candidate John Faso's website for updates as he campaigns around New York against Elliot Spitzer and the job killing & tax policies of New York State Liberal Democrats"
