"Francinina Jones grabbed her husband's long shotgun, the one he became attached to during years of hunting, and marched straight to the police station in Southeast D.C."

Say it ain't so...

"You're not going to get the guy going around robbing people on the street turning in guns," said Cmdr. Joel Maupin, who is in charge of the department's 7th District in Southeast.

Talk about speaking truth to power. This guy must have his retirement nailed down because I doubt his career will last much longer.

That's exactly why guns should be carried, or locked up...so idiots like her can't grab 'em.

Yeah. Montgomery County is a Rat suburban hellhole. The District--well, half of it, at least--is more like a Rat version of Fallujah on the Potomac. And about as unsafe.

And then there's Prince George's...a little of both.

I'm glad I lived south of the river when I was up there (1987-89). Fairfax, Vienna, Herndon, and finally Oakton.

Hopefully the police department was handing out "I turned in my gun" stickers for these morons to stick on their front doors. As long as people are going to keep getting murdered in DC, it might as well be the ones who are actively enabling the criminals. Might help shift the balance of clueless vs. clueful voters.

Yeah, but, y'know, it's as plausible as anything else in Fallujah on the Potomac.

BTW, Nublet's got visible toothage. Her two bottom front ones sort of broke the surface on her eight-month birthday. As you'd expect, she's none too happy about it.

Good luck! Vlad's been a pill the last few days - I sure hope these top four arrive quickly.

I sure hope there were some gun collectors there to seperate the valuable guns from the junk. Some of these idiots turn in irreplacable antiques worth thousands of dollars for a $50 gift certificate. If I was a cop I would volunteer to work these buy-backs just in the hopes some fool would bring in a Luger, Colt, or some prize like that.

The useful idiots once again in full effect. I agree with dfwgator: "People this stupid shouldn't have guns anyway". That's a rog. If they want to disarm themselves and make themselves food for predators, that's their choice. It's their lame attempt to drag those of us who know better into the same hellish gutter that I take exception to.

All they've done is encourage the gang bangers, letting them know the are a few hundred more unarmed, law abiding people. One of the best things about shall issue CCW is that, as the number of legal packers increases in any area, the criminals get more and more worried and cautious. Conversely, to the extent "buy backs" "succeed," the criminals are that much more encouraged by the spread of victim disarmament.

Now how can you say that about the system that was run bu Chief Moose?

Actually Chief Moose was the Police Chief of Montgomery County Maryland, not DC (although the holder of the title of DC Police Chief was about as bad as Moose...)

Yes - someone else already caught that. I got confunsed. Big black democrat run city police chiefs are all about the same - anti-gun incompetents who collect a big fat salary for saying the right things and being the right color. New Orleans, Atlanta, DC and of course Montgomery County which as I remember along with Price Georges county voted overwhelmingly for Kerry.
