I just heard this speech on RUSH, Rush was saying and I agree this was a great speech. Bush had several Middle Eastern type of language in there that is targeted to them. Like the mirage and the shores line. He is speaking to the moderates in the Muslim world telling them to stand up. People should give Bush a little credit, this was written very carefully and is in no way a liberal or Democrat talk. Sometimes we conservatives eat our own before we know all the facts.
Well for one thing - when Iran attacked our soveriegn territory in 1979, that was an act of war. That we didn't respond forcefully at the time is besides the point.
Also, we have been TALKING about thier nuclear program for, well, a ton of time - this isn't a recent development.
If military options are not at least discussed, there is NO REASON for Iran to comply with anything - as has been the case, or have you been sleeping??
No flinch....We have been in support of nuclear power for Iran (Russia agreed to supply the materials) all along...just there is no need for enriching uranium except to build bombs. He is not changing positions...Kofi flinched and then went to cuba to kiss up to the rest of his buddies. Kofi has made a virtually useless Un into a totally useless UN!
The next time you find yourself wondering that, check out the reactions from the euro lefties or our own lefties. Not happy.
Why was the nutjob hiding from the President's presense? He's seen the writing on the wall. Maybe literally. The nut...
Exactly - he's a nutjob and not prone to rational thought - which is why we really can't negotiate with him.
Is there any doubt in ANYONES mind that he will launch against Israel the moment he gets a least two warheads together??
You're right. We have been talking about meetings and deadlines and sanctions and little has been done. How many UN deadlines have passed? How many chances will Iran be given to end its nuclear program? I'll tell you when: when Iran finally has a nuclear weapon.
IMO, it has been past time to get tough with the UN and the world.
"Our goal is to help you build a more tolerant and hopeful society that honors peoples of all faiths and promotes the peace."
The Muslim goal is a world where everyone is Muslim, not to "honor peoples of all faiths."
"Our goal is to help you build a more tolerant and hopeful society that honors peoples of all faiths and promotes the peace."
I would have added the following line: "The U.S. is the friend, and will remain the friend, of any country that shares the goal of promoting tolerant societies. The U.S. is not, and will not strive to be, the friend of any country that does not share that goal, or fails to demonstrate that they share that goal, through their actions both internally in their country and abroad."
Freedom, by its nature, cannot be imposed. It must be chosen.
From Beirut to Baghdad, people are making the choice for freedom.
And the nations gathered in this chamber must make a choice as well. Will we support the moderates and reformers who are working for change across the Middle East, or will we yield the future to the terrorists and extremists?
America has made its choice. We will stand with the moderates and reformers.
The United Arab Emirates recently announced that half of its seats in the Federal National Council will be chosen by elections.
Kuwait held elections in which women were allowed to vote and run for office for the first time.
Citizens have voted in municipal elections in Saudi Arabia and parliamentary elections in Jordan and Bahrain and in multiparty presidential elections in Yemen and Egypt.
Powerful!
The greatest obstacle to this future is that your rulers have chosen to deny you liberty and to use your nation's resources to fund terrorism and fuel extremism and pursue nuclear weapons.
The United Nations has passed a clear resolution requiring that the regime in Tehran meet its international obligations. Iran must abandon its nuclear weapons ambitions.
That took guts beyond belief... when he said that, I held my breath. Bravo, Mr. President.
You are simply wrong. I shudder to think what sort of speech Kerry would have given, or indeed where we would be today had we a Democrat administration on 9/11 or post-9/11.
Yes, he laid it out realistically and truthfully re the Middle East, what the U.S. would like to see and is working steadily towards. Even a little reading up on Middle East history and current events would help in understanding why this was a magnificent speech for the President of the United States to be giving at this time.
The President and his advisors understand the history and nature of conflicts in the Middle East. In turn, Middle East nations that support islamic terrorism need to clearly understand the consequences of that support and the benefits of living peacefully with one another and with the State of Israel.
If they choose to continue on the path of aggression, violence and terrorism, they will experience unpleasant consquences. The Arabs, with occasional exceptions, are the ones who have consistently refused to talk peace.
Instead of caving, our U.S. President has drawn the battle lines clearly and understandably for everyone.
I didn't hear the speech but having read it, kudos to the writers. Just reading it evokes a cadence that I like. To the point, no horsecrap.
No argument from me. I started getting a lump in my throat about a third of the way into the speech and was in tears by the end. He gave a well-informed, courageous, humane speech that was diplomatic yet with a clear, firm stand for the U.S. and the free world.
I had tears, I suppose, because of the firm support for beleagured Israel, something that nation so needs to hear. We are on the right course and headed in the right direction.
I only wonder what negative headline the MSM will put on this or will they just downplay it all and give more publicity to Imanutjob.
Very, very true.
I'm optimistic that, by supporting the forces of democracy and moderation, we can help Israelis and Palestinians build a more hopeful future and achieve the peace in the Holy Land we all want.
Freedom, by its nature, cannot be imposed. It must be chosen.
Amen.

Yes, Ahmadnutjob does appear to be irrational for those of us living in the West. For the environment in which he lives, he looks perfectly sane.
I don't trust the little nutbag as far as I could throw him (given his small stature, that might be a good way), but there must be the appearance of diplomacy on the part of the U.S. before we can turn to the rest of the world to garner support to go after these nutbags. I believe President Bush is fully aware that negotiation with these people is not likely to result in a positive change, but he also knows he must try that first. Remember, many months (12 years actually) of negotiations were tried with Iraq before the start of the 2003 war. These things do take time, especially with the situation in Iraq causing such problems within our own country. Be patient.

Didn't know that SF had any of these (or would allow them to live there). Please be careful in that viper's nest.
