Money added to state budget for West Bank storm damage:
BATON ROUGE -- After spending more than $13 million to subsidize a West Bank golf club before Hurricane Katrina, the state is now poised to spend half a million dollars more to replace storm-damaged trees on the course.
The additional aid to the privately operated Tournament Players Club Louisiana is tucked into the state budget passed by legislators this spring and signed by Gov. Kathleen Blanco. The budget lists the $500,000 expenditure as a "forestry program for the planting of trees and other native plants due to losses sustained from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita," without mentioning the golf course.
"It's important to show that this course is in first-class condition" when the Zurich Classic professional tournament is played there in April, said state Rep. John Alario, D-Westwego, who requested the money in the state budget bill. "This is a big part of the recovery."
Although the business is owned by the private firm PGA Tour and local developers, the property is owned by the state. Like the Superdome repairs in time for football season, Alario said, the TPC golf course needs to look good for the international television audience that will be watching the tournament.

love those Louisiana brains! HB to C!
Why?
Alario said, the TPC golf course needs to look good for the international television audience that will be watching the tournament.
Because they can. Voters allow it, er, expect it.
Next time a hurricane is headed to town, they could use the golf carts to aid in the evacuation.
Maybe this will help LA to quickly become a chocolate city once again.
OMG I love it, Mark.
Yesterday, the Bond Commission awarded Morgan Keegan $1 Billion bond mandate - this on top of the $1.5 Billion in madates that it received in last 12 weeks. It just so happens that Morgan Keegan employs Whitney Kling as an intern - she is the daughter Whit Kling, the Executive Director of the Bond Commission, and he recommended his daughter's employer for the mandate. Wow, go figure. I am sure this was just a coincidence.
WTF?? I am contacting my congressmen to let them know I am outraged by this. Tax payer dollars, even if it is state dollars which the deficit will expected to be made up with federal tax dollars, should only go to infrastructure!!
Now I get it! The levees didn't break. They were just making a water hazard.
Purgatory Golf Course
I'm not saying this is the right way to go but I can see a bit of logic to it.
Rebuilding housing projects does not encourage new business. Money follows money. The rich bring the money to town, not projects tenants.
If New Orleans is to be redone, and right, make a place for the rich and the money will follow.
I'm not saying a golf course is the way to go but the rich should be encouraged to INVEST in New Orleans and there is no money to be made from those who don't have any. Sounds cruel but that is just the way it is.

Well, there you go again - making sense out of things...
"...Rebuilding housing projects does not encourage new business. Money follows money. The rich bring the money to town, not projects tenants..."
Housing projects should never be rebuilt, or ever built at all! They are little different from mass-breeding chicken farms.
At least with chickens, ya don't get the crime, drugs, and gang violence. Ya just get chicken-sh!t.............FRegards
rvoitier, discipler, good to see ya...
