Osama bin Laden has died, according to the L'Est republicain

PARIS (AP) - The head of terrorist network al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, has died, according to information from the Saudi police, transmitted by the Directorate-General of External Services (DGSE), and reported on the Lorraine daily newspaper L'Est republicain in its Saturday edition.

"According to a commonly reliable source, the Saudi police believes that Osama Bin Laden has died," said a September 21st confidential note from the DGSE classified as "defense." L'Est republicain will publish it in its Saturday edition. The note, specified the daily newspaper, would be re-printed "un-edited."

According to the note to be published by the L'Est republicain, the Saudi police "would try to obtain more details, in particular the location of the burial site, and then announce the news officially." The DGSE specified in the note that no "jihadist Internet site has for the moment been made aware of the death of Osama bin Laden."

According to the note, "the head of al Qaeda may have fallen victim to a strong case of typhoid fever while in Pakistan, on August 23, 2006," and may have died within a matter of days.

The French news organization transmitted this note to the President of France, to the Defense and Prime Minister and the Ministers of the Interior Department on September 21, according to the regional daily newspaper, which added that a prior note transmitted on September 19th to the leaders of France explained why the Saudi police "sought to confirm the death of Osama bin Laden."

Does it strike anyone else as odd that this coincides with the recent discussion as to whether Pakistan will allow the US in its borders to pursue Bin Laden and US asserting that it will do it if it wants to? Musharaff got to put up a good front of defiance to his country, hopefully reducing the fervor of those who are trying to kill him, and Bush gets to maintain his stance of "F you, we're getting this guy" and all with very little consequence beyond perception and posturing.

That darned Karl Rove again?

If this is true, was this before the Democrats got on board in the funding of the $ 100 Million by Congress to find OSBL ?
The Republicans MUST NOT allow the Democrats take credit, even if OSBL died of natural causes.

Lets add this up. The Saudis know a heck of alot on Ossama. They monitor huge amounts of phonecalls within the country...and know more than they'd like to admit. If they admit that the guy is dead in public...its a fairly good chance of this being true.

Consider this though...typhoid is beatable...but only with the right drugs. If you were sitting in the middle of Pakistan...in hill country...and could not go to a regional hospital because you were the great Ossama...you would die within 2-3 weeks. Even if this story turns out false...I think the CIA now has a great weapon. If he isn't dead...then bring massive typhoid samples into Pakistan and offer free drugs at the regional hospitals...under guard. You might kill off a couple of thousand of these guys...but considering they aren't helping us in this campaign...I'm not too worried about thier lengthly life.

Let's all sit back and watch this unfold. You still have one or two key members of the leadership around...they must be eliminated as well. We are not done yet.

"The head of terrorist network al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, has died..."

Crap. Now I feel the need to purchase about 200 or 300 sympathy cards for all of the Demagogue Party scum in Congress.

I Think I'll require a bit more proof than an article in the Lorraine daily newspaper L'Est republicain

I hate articles like this, getting everyone's hopes up.
The evil cretin always seem to hold on the longest and the French haven't gotten anything correct in a very long time.
I'd bet my paycheck this isn't true...and I am one poor SOB.

It'll be an easy transition for the 'rats.

They'll just go from "it's pathetic we haven't caught him yet" to "it's pathetic we never caught him". They probably already have the macro written.

Well thanks for posting this.....Pelosi and Boxer are DEEPLY saddened!!!

I understand why they mourn his passing-- but on the other hand John F'in Kerry would say the "war on terror" is officially over, having caught the mastermind-- so they can go back to spending the War On Terror Peace Dividend on more socialist programs and vote-buying pork projects.

I have never bought into Osama mysticism. Someone like him and his followers would have been rubbing the worlds face in it if he was alive...

That very thought occurred to me. When did Pakistan announce this "deal" about US troops possibly going into Pakistan to hunt OBL and Zarahiwi? Oh, and before I forget...

"Well, let's hope boys and girls, let's hope. (I'm sure the RATs will be thrilled if this is true, ha ha)."

The rats will say we should not be in Iraq, and with Osama dead the whole war is over.

At the core, the democrat party is Anti-War; descended from the 60s Vietnam folks.

Unless of course it is their war.
