Any mosques nearby?
A bit reactionary, no?
No.
It's a normal suspicion.
Occam's Razor.
unless it didn't function properly... remember liquid explosives have to be very precise and to the "T" for them to work 100%.
Thank God the victim will be OK.
Manager of a fast food restaurant.
Sorry dude, Occam's points elsewhere.
could be drug related
or a test run
Neighbors reported hearing an explosion around 6:15 a.m. Monday at 6025 Ave. Southeast, near Haines Park and Altoona City Hall.
Police said the loud noise was a bomb that was planted inside a woman's SUV. A neighbor said she then heard a woman scream.
"We were getting ready for breakfast and there was this tremendous noise, like it shook the windows and things," said neighbor Elaine Wentland.
It's been a slow process because investigators wanted to make sure it was safe before they moved in to figure out who planted a bomb inside this vehicle.
Police said something inside the SUV exploded. When officers arrived, they called for an ambulance, and then the Des Moines bomb squad and bomb experts with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
"After I heard my newspaper hit my front stoop, I heard a pop," said neighbor Linda VanderSchel.
"First, I thought it might have been a drive-by shooting, because there was no smoke or anything. And then one of the other neighbors said they thought it was a bomb, because no gun could make that kind of noise," Wentland said.
The explosion blew out the driver's side window and shattered several other windows of a Ford Explorer SUV.
"Our officers responded. (They) determined that there had been what appeared to be some kind of a device inside the vehicle that had gone off, when there was a person in the car," said Altoona Police Chief John Gray.
Des Moines officers used bomb-sniffing dogs and a robot to search for booby traps and make sure there are no more explosives.
Investigators carefully looked over the scene, trying to piece together what and how much exploded.
Neighbors said the woman who was hurt has rented her house for about two years.
Wentland said the victim is a "very nice lady."
"My granddaughter works at the Sonic she manages and had nothing but good words to say about her," Wentland said.
Police said the victim was hurt in the blast, but the injuries are not serious.
"That's the best thing that could happen out of all this, that she's OK," Wentland said.
Police said the victim was taken to a Des Moines hospital where she was treated and released.
Gray said they are not yet ready to release the victim's name.
Not much of a bomb. It does not take alot of explosive power to destroy a car (and occupant).
Domestic incident possibly?
This is still terrorism. A bomb in a car.
No kidding....
The explosion blew out the driver's side window and shattered several other windows of a Ford Explorer SUV.
Clearly this is the result of another evil SUV.
Maybe not a genuine bomb. Funny that they came to that conclusion so quickly. Usually the authorities dismiss that possibility during the preliminary stage.
Well, let's see; most of the bombs that have gone off recently have been attributed to one very specific group of people. And what group would that be? Come on, you can say it; yes, it's muslims.
No. Not these days. First thing I thought.
