Former President Bill Clinton shook his left index finger at Chris Wallace during an interview on Fox News Sunday, denying charges he and his administration did too little to catch Osama bin Laden and ward off the 9/11 terror attacks. Leaning forward and appearing angry, Clinton said, at least I tried. Thats the difference in me and some, including all of the right-wingers who are attacking me now. They (the Bush administration) had eight months to try. They did not try. I tried. So I tried and failed.
Clinton added that he authorized the CIA to get groups together to try to kill (bin Laden). He said he had drawn up plans to go into Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban and launch an attack against bin Laden after the Oct. 12, 2000 attack on the USS Cole in the Yemeni part of Aden. Clinton suggested the plan was thwarted because Uzbekistan would not grant basing rights and only did so after 9/11.
Clinton apparently is coming out about this now because of the recently aired ABC film The Path to 9/11, which portrayed him and his top aides as indecisive at best, and incompetent at worst, when they failed to take advantage of an opportunity to kill bin Laden. A docudrama is not necessary to counter Clintons claims. There is testimony from many sources that he and his administration blew chances to nail the al-Qaida mastermind.
One credible source is Michael Scheuer, a 22-year CIA veteran who used to head the Counterterrorist Centers bin Laden unit. Scheuer, who is referred to as Mike in the 9/11 Commission Report, wrote a July 5 op-ed column in The Washington Times. In it, he referred to former terrorism czar Richard Clarke and Clarkes assertion in his book Against All Enemies that the CIA failed to put operatives in Afghanistan to kill bin Laden, relying instead on Afghan locals. Scheuer writes, In spring 1998, I briefed Mr. Clarke and senior CIA, Department of Defense and FBI officers on a plan to kidnap bin Laden. Mr. Clarkes reaction was that it was just a thinly disguised attempt to assassinate bin Laden. I replied that if he wanted bin Laden dead, we could do the job quickly. Mr. Clarkes response was that the president did not want bin Laden assassinated, and that we had no authority to do so.
The planning and plotting by the hijackers was done on Bill Clintons watch and executed eight months into the Bush administration, which refused to heed warning signs that an attack was imminent. A wealth of information and evidence about the laxness of the Clinton administration can be found by Googling Clinton failures to catch terrorists and bin Laden. Some postings are from what might be regarded as right-wing Web sites, but others are from such left-wing sources as The Los Angeles Times.
In a Dec. 5, 2001 op-ed for that newspaper, Mansoor Ijaz, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and chairman of an investment company in New York, wrote, President Clinton and his national security team ignored several opportunities to capture Osama bin Laden and his terrorist associates. I know because I negotiated more than one of the opportunities.
Ijaz says that from 1996 to 1998 he opened unofficial channels between Sudan and the Clinton administration, including National Security Adviser Sandy Berger and Sudans president and national intelligence chief, President Omar Hassan Ahmed Bashir, who wanted terrorism sanctions against Sudan lifted, offered the arrest and extradition of bin Laden and detailed intelligence data about the global networks constructed by Egypts Islamic Jihad, Irans Hezbollah and the Palestinian Hamas.
Among those in the networks were the two hijackers who piloted commercial airliners into the World Trade Center. The silence of the Clinton administration in responding to these offers was defeaning.
When considering whether to take Bill Clintons outrage seriously, it is helpful to revisit his notorious finger wagging when he forcefully denied having had sex with Monica Lewinsky. The Web site YouTube.com has juxtaposed the latest finger wagging with the previous one. Viewers can judge for themselves whether Clintons latest claim and blame should be believed anymore than his previous denial of extramarital sex with an intern.

DOCUMENTS IN THE NEWS - 1999 Millennium Their links to the FBI didn't work for me. I wonder if it was because the White House had the FBI barking up the wrong tree. The fool obsesssed about conservatives and right wing militias. He ignored Al Qaeda as much as possible.
I choose the latter.
Clinton is a marshmallow...all he can do is sic his wife on his opponents.
Chris missed a big opportunity.
Oh, yes. Christian militias. Abortion clinic bombers. Clinton's FBI did nothing but chase after imaginary conspiracies.
Sure, there have been a few abortion clinic bombings, but they are vanishingly few compared to left wing bombings in this country or Muslim bombings against Americans abroad. And in every case they were the work of individual nut cases.
I remember clinton had half the FBI chasing after that fellow who bombed the Maryland abortion clinic. No doubt it was a serious crime, but there were probably about a hundred worse murderers running loose out there. So why focus on him? Why did this one guy rate hundreds of agents, fleets of helicopters, the takeover of a whole town, and all the rest of that nonsense. Nothing but playing to his base, nothing but political propaganda.
If you want to see Bubba come totally unglued, ask him why he only gave LIP SERVICE when dealing with Saddam?
I would like to see someone with the gall to ask him what the hell he was thinkling when he shoved a cigar into his intern. Damn ,man, thats no ashtray.
next I would like to see someone ask Hillary if he had ever used her as an ashtray.
:) good one....
From an earlier thread:
The true character of lord William the Slick may be determined from two actions: 1-The use of his pen to pardon FALN terrorists. 2-The use of our military to murder the Branch Davidians.
Yes, he was so intent on demonizing the white Christian militia types that I am convinced (as is Jayna Davis and others) he let several actual jihadis walk free after the OKC bombing. Yes, McVeigh was guilty, but he certainly had some middle eastern help--but Clinton only wanted to talk about "right wing talk show hate mongers" and the evils of gun ownership (even though no guns were used to blow up the building). He even got another of his odious anti-gun bills passed on the backs of the dead in OKC.
Hehheh. I sure wish Chris had reached over there and grabbed it and shoved it right up his W.C. Fields snot locker.
Where can I buy me a box of those!!!!!
That finger is definitely AlSO bent!!!
"Ooh, Mr. President -- where's that thing been?"
Gosh! Look at those eyes! Gives me the willies!
Don't forget film pirates.
I would have said: "You point that finger at my chest again, and you're going to pull back a bloody stump."
I was brought up by my parents to respect our President, whether Democrat or Republican. I always tried to abide by that rule.
However, after Slick Willie stuck his finger in my face and lied, via national TV, all bets were off.
This man is a sociopath and worse, and his "wife" is even lower on the foodchain.
The best thing he could have done is to burst into laughter right in Clinton's face and said something like, "My kids did that too when they got cause lying."
Don't ever get drawn into an argument like this with the left. They are not concerned with facts. They only want to shout you down, which is hard for them to do when you are laughing at them.
BTW that "comprehensive plan" of Clinton's was 3 years old when GWB took office. Why didn't Clinton implement it? If it was important I would have thought it would have been a priority. I don't even remember it being talked about in the 2000 debates. I have to get a new BS meter. My needle is bent from exceeding the BS max reading.....
The Democratic Party Dear Paulus, You can't trust Republicans on national security -- and two things proved it yesterday: 1) In a powerful interview that aired yesterday, President Bill Clinton took on the extremist Republican propaganda about 9/11 -- and Fox News tried to cover up the fact that the Bush administration downgraded terrorism as a priority before September 11th and has failed to eliminate Osama bin Laden since the attacks. 2) An explosive report on the still-classified National Intelligence Estimate states that the "invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks" -- and Republicans have been trying to cover it up. This is what we're fighting against every day -- an administration covering up of the Bush failure of 9/11 and covering up an honest look at the war in Iraq and the war on terror. You know that Democrats have a real plan for destroying Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda, fixing the mess in Iraq, and really securing us at home. But we've always had those things -- the problem until now has been our willingness to stand up and fight for them in the face of fear mongering, bullying and intimidation from the other side. That's why we're going on the offense on national security. The future of our party, and of our country, depends on the ability of Democrats to get a strong national security message out in all 50 states this year. Donate to make it happen and watch President Clinton fight back now: http://www.democrats.org/playingoffense Here's the meat of the Fox News interview with President Clinton, where he's had enough of the right-wing revisionist history from the propaganda machine: CLINTON: I'm being asked this on the Fox network. ABC just had a right-wing conservative run in their little Pathway to 9/11, falsely claiming it was based on the 9/11 Commission report, with three things asserted against me directly contradicted by the 9/11 Commission report. ... And I think it's very interesting that all the conservative Republicans, who now say I didn't do enough, claimed that I was too obsessed with bin Laden. All of President Bush's neo-cons thought I was too obsessed with bin Laden. They had no meetings on bin Laden for nine months after I left office. All the right-wingers who now say I didn't do enough said I did too much -- same people. Over a quarter million Americans stood up to ABC and beat back the right-wing Republican 9/11 propaganda that tries to cover up the Bush administration's huge failures to protect America before and after the attacks. Yesterday Bill Clinton did exactly what Democrats need to do in this election -- to stand up to the right-wing and tell the truth. We will not let the Republicans twist history and distort reality. We're sick of playing defense against a Republican leadership that uses national security to scare people to win elections. We're not going to be pushed around, spun, and defamed by right-wing extremists and those whom they use to disseminate their propaganda. Our plan for this election is to go on the offense -- to talk straight about the Republican failures and lay out a clear Democratic plan to take American foreign policy and national security in a better direction. Watch President Clinton and donate now to Democrats who will fight back: http://www.democrats.org/playingoffense We have a fundamentally different vision for our security than the Party of Bush. We want a new direction in Iraq, more competent security at home, and the restoration of America's moral leadership in the world. They failed to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, and five years after September 11th he still lives to taunt Americans. They squandered America's moral authority and global leadership by launching a war of choice in Iraq instead of fighting the war on al Qaeda. The calls of the 9/11 Commission Report and Hurricane Katrina simply did not awaken Republican leaders to our continuing vulnerabilities at home. We've had enough, and we're going to run an honest campaign about the security of our country. People are smart and ready for real leadership -- will you make a donation right now to help get the message out? http://www.democrats.org/playingoffense Republicans have won two elections since 9/11 by instilling fear in people, and they're trying to do it again this year. But it's not going to work. The Bush policies have failed. Iraq is sliding into civil war. Iran and North Korea are more dangerous than they were five and a half years ago. And the Taliban resurgence poses new threats in Afghanistan. As President Clinton said on Fox News that we have a government "that thinks Afghanistan is only one-seventh as important as Iraq." People have had enough. This administration cannot be trusted with our security. Democrats are going to reclaim American leadership with a tough, smart plan to transform failed policies in Iraq, the Middle East and around the world. We will increase the size of Special Forces to destroy Osama Bin Laden and terrorist networks like al Qaeda. We will implement the bipartisan 9/11 Commission proposal to secure America's borders and ports and screen every container. And we will fully man, train, and equip our National Guard and our police, firefighters and other first responders. Let's get this message out to Americans who need to hear it: http://www.democrats.org/playingoffense When it comes to national security, the Republicans have not led. We will. Thank you, Gov. We contracted with people to kill him. I got closer to killing him than anybody has gotten since. And if I were still president, we'd have more than 20,000 troops there trying to kill him. ... "Now, I've never criticized President Bush, and I don't think this is useful. But you know we do have a government that thinks Afghanistan is only one-seventh as important as Iraq. ... "And you ask me about terror and al Qaeda with that sort of dismissive thing? When all you have to do is read Richard Clarke's book to look at what we did in a comprehensive, systematic way to try to protect the country against terror. ... "And you've got that little smirk on your face and you think you're so clever. But I had responsibility for trying to protect this country. I tried and I failed to get bin Laden. I regret it. But I did try. And I did everything I thought I responsibly could. ... "The entire military was against sending Special Forces in to Afghanistan and refueling by helicopter. And no one thought we could do it otherwise, because we could not get the CIA and the FBI to certify that al Qaeda was responsible while I was President. ... Gee, I thought he was receiving lip service when dealing with Saddam and bin Laden!

This is how I received the e-mail from a stupid chairman of the democRATic party!!

"No one ever had to endure someone like Ken Starr...
No one ever had to try to save people from ethnic cleansing...
I got a standing ovation from the United Nations from the whole world..."
BTW that "comprehensive plan" of Clinton's was 3 years old when GWB took office. Why didn't Clinton implement it?
Ah-h-h very interesting! When I saw the Clintoon escapade I suddenly thought: Now I know what Sandy Burgler stole! He probably took a memo that specifically stated that the Clintoon admin would NOT pass along to the Bush admin what was know about OBL.
I got one just like it, except mine starts: "Dear I_Hate_Dhimmicrats"
I guess they don't have a problem with the name I gave them ;'}
Ha! It didn't work.
Yeah me too. I bet that would jerk a knot in her azz.
THE ABOVE MASS MURDER OF THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT AMERICANS WAS THE INHERITANCE/LEGACY OF 8 YEARS UNDER THE CLINTOONS.
