Sen. Kerry Campaigns in district where Fla. congressman resigned
AP/eyewitnessnewstv.com ^ | 9/30/2006

MIAMI Senator John Kerry is in Florida today, helping a Democratic hopeful in the district where the Republican Senator abruptly resigned. Representative Mark Foley was considered a shoo-in for re-election -- until it was revealed he had exchanged raunchy E-mails with a teenage page.

Senator Kerry is headlining a fundraiser for Tim Mahoney, who may now have a better shot at winning.

Kerry says the weekend is not about Foley's resignation. He says the people in Florida will make their own decision about that.

Instead, Kerry says, the visit is about mustering support for state Democrats. Nationwide, the party needs to win a net of 15 Republican seats to regain the power lost in 1994.

how come the floridians cannot pull a torch/lautenberg and swap out foley for some other republican?

They can, sort of.

Foley's name stays on the ballot. But the state party is allowed to make a substitution, and a vote for Foley is a vote for the substitute. Or the substitute's name may be written in. Both methods legal, both are binding.

Be nice if Jeb Bush could be talked into running for the slot. But of course, he has the business of the state to take care of.

"Kerry says the weekend is not about Foley's resignation. "

And your campaign should never have been solely about the fact that you served in Nam, Lurch!

It should have been about you coming clean and showing us your original miitary discharge. We still don't know and there are too many unanswered questions. I want to see the original paperwork, dated sometime in the early 70s.

...And an over inflated pompous Thurston Howell III windbag to boot. I nearly pulled over to the side of the road while Hugh Hewitt played a few of his sound bites the other day.

John Kerry served in Vietnam.

You have to respect a man who left a fingernail on the field of battle.

A Democrat had gay sex with an underage intern, kept his house seat, and was re-elected.

So...

The Republican resigns in disgrace, leaving the Dem. to run practically unopposed. Only THEN does JF "I Was in Vietnaaaaaaaaaam" Kerry show up to campaign for the Democrat.

He's not interested in helping the Democrat win. He just wants to be able to take the credit for winning back a Republican seat. It's a ploy to help boost his chances within the party for 2008.

Maybe next they'll send in "My Boy Lollipop", Barney Frank. He's someone who knows all about congressmen having improper relations with page boys!

It does seem like it's a little convenient that all this info was there, at the ready. If you think back over the history of scandals in the 20th/21st century, many have been sprung by the democrats

The interesting thing in this case is that presumably if Foley was set up, digital fingerprints would remain. If he were worth the trouble (and he's not) it would be interesting to trace and reveal some of those fingerprints

Food for thought.

The rat will fool himself with dreams of this seat but the cold facts are no favorable to them. The Fla. GOP will put someone else in that spot. Foley's name being on the ballot will mean nothing. Any mistaken votes for him go to the replacement. There are at least five Republicans falling all over themselves to be the candidate. THEY are on the ground. THEY know the district. Florida has the most powerful GOTV in the country and OH YEAH I almost forgot, Foley got 68% last time. Will this cause 19 points worth of Republican voters to stay home? I don't think so. Does anyone who is not rooting for a rat takeover think so either?

I sort of wish, that while he was down here in Florida, that he would campaign for his good friend Bill Nelson....

Katherine Harris could use the help.

(If only we could talk Jeb Bush into running as the substitute for Foley!)

So Kerry went there. What's the big deal. Wherever you find a festering wound you find maggots.

(With apologies to sterile maggots used in wound treatments of course.)

Having served in Vietnam and been present when Purple Hearts were pinned to PJ tops I can assure you John Kerry is a pretender. He is nothing more than a way out-er. #3 and out. Move to the Vineyard John. You have nothing to offer America.

The democrats may have brought this forward. They may aven have convinced the page to wait until now to protest the emails, but the fact if Foley shot himself in the foot,

He allowed the little head to think for him and personally I am glad the sicko POS is out.

Now we need to rally behind a straight republican to replace the pervert.

Providence news outlet WPRI smears Florida Senator Mel Martinez, calling Representative Foley a "Republican Senator" and Mel is the only sitting Republican Senator from Florida. WPRI should spend their time investigating Patches Kennedy instead. It seems the only good thing Foley did was resign rather than subject us to excuses for 3 AM roll calls or the Ambien made me do it.

"Who let this self serving dingbat in my state?"
Maybe the Senate can add a rider to the current border fence bill, barring Ms. Heinz-Kerry from Fla.

(If only we could talk Jeb Bush into running as the substitute for Foley!)

The best Fantasy Congress scenario (just for fun):
1. Ken Mehlman convinces Mel Martinez to resign from the Senate and run for Foley's seat (if not eligible as GOP, he runs as an Independent).
2. Jeb appoints Katherine Harris to the Senate.
3. Jack Nicklaus enters the Senate race as an Independent or write-in candidate against Nelson.

Hey, just a minute. I'm as good a GOPer as the next fiscal conservative but this fiasco cannot be laid at the feet of the Dems. I don't know Foley personally and never heard any adverse information about him. But this sordid thing is over-the-top and as the Speaker siad last evening Foley did the right thing to resign. It isn't the Dem's fault the guy has a potically fatal weakness. And, if anyone should have beat the drum on this inside the party, it was the guys responsible for getting Foley reelected. It doesn't matter whether the Dems knew all the details or not, it was the GOP reelection guys who had the obligation.
