Stephanopoulos to Murtha: "Democrats are worried about your leadership"
Congressman John Murtha was questioned this morning by Sunday morning talk show host George Stephanopoulos regarding his announcement Friday that he is again campaigning for House Majority Leader. Stephanopoulos said Democrats are worried about his leadership. The reason? Murtha's questionable ethics. Stephanopoulos cited ABSCAM and tens of millions of Defense contract dollars going to the KSI lobbying firm of Murtha's brother as reason for Democrats' concern. Murtha responded that he was 'cleared of all charges" in the ABSCAM case; and his brother's millions were acquired ethically. "Everything we do in our office is by the book," said Murtha. Does Murtha play by the book? Hardly
House ethics rules require members to report any bribe offers immediately to the FBI. Murtha was offered a $50,000 bribe in 1980. Did he report it? No. He lied: "I did not consider that any money was offered." Murtha, 1980 [LINK] Last Friday, Sept. 29th, Murthas 26-year lie abruptly ended the same day the full 54-minute FBI sting surveillance tape hit the internet. Appearing on CNNs Wolf Blitzers show that night, Murtha made this admission of guilt: "They offered me $50,000." [LINK to transcript] Twenty-six years ago, that admission would have brought charges against him. Twenty-six years ago, that truth would have ended his political career. Murthas 26-years-late admission of bribery knowledge changes everything. It shows he does not play by the book not in 1980 and not now. It redefines him as a guilty, crooked politician who escaped prosecution -- not because of his innocence but because: 1.) he lied; 2.) he cowardly cut a deal to squeal. (can you say, "cut and run"?) In 1980, Murtha convinced then House Ethics Committee member Don Bailey he had voluntarily informed the FBI about the bribe. The duped Bailey, in turn, convinced (barely) the Committee not to file charges against Murtha. Murtha then escaped federal prosecution by cutting a deal to give sworn testimony against another congressman in exchange for charges being dropped by the grand jury.-- [LINK] [LINK] For 26 years Murtha has not told the full truth about being cleared of all charges. He was not innocent of wrong doing in the ABSCAM FBI sting. He escaped charges because he squealed and lied. That's not playing by the book -- that's just plain crooked. Congressman John Murtha is a crook. Just how big of a crook is Congressman Murtha? Independent, liberal watchdog organization CREW lists John Murtha as one of the most corrupt members of Congress. [LINK] And the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Murthas campaign used a government Veterans Affairs Office in the Westmoreland County Courthouse to promote and arrange the bussing of veterans to his political rally, held Sept. 30th in Johnstown, PA. [LINK ] Crooked. Thats Congressman John Murtha. Given these facts, what remains to be seen is whether the voters of PA district 12 will choose to return their crooked congressman to Washington, D.C. this Nov. 7th. |

That fat, bloated, corrupt, criminal, treasonous SOB is done. Irey will beat him on Nov 7th, IMO. He's a disgrace from my state. I spit on him and his phony 'service'. Give yourself some more medals, desk-jockey asswipe.

Murtha is a fraud, a criminal, and a traitor. How can anybody not know this? He should be in prison, not congress.

You are right to despise him and to wish him a loss. Unfortunately, he will probably win again and continue his path of corruption.
If I was his opponent, I would have bullhorns driving all over the district playing his foul mouthed utterances during the abscam tapes. Maybe his constituents would tire of his profanity and crudeness.

BOTH political parties are LOADED with corrupt, inept, lying sonsuvbitches....
The only difference -- being that Republicans either have the good grace to resign and if not the party pushes them out...once they are revealed or discovered.
Democrats circle the wagons and defend their assholes to the end -- realizing if they don't, perhaps THEY will be next..

You just described a major portion of the Democratic party's representatives in Congress, by the way.

Does anyone know what the latest polls are in this race?We get asked that a lot. The annoying answer is, there are no polls on this race... at least, none that have been made public.
For a couple of possible reasons: they are expensive ($25,000) and Murtha's opponent, Diana Irey, needs to use campaign money for wiser things. Also, if Murtha has polled and found the results bad for him he is not going to release that information publicly.

Murtha is a fraud, a criminal, and a traitor. How can anybody not know this? He should be in prison, not congress. You know it, I know it... but the voters in Murtha's own district do not necessarily know it. The vast majority of them are not Internet users and rely upon the MSM for their information. So, it's no wonder they don't know...
That's why we are workin' hard and losing a lot of sleep to get the word out in his district, which is why we keep pestering folks to contribute $. We've got a long road yet to go getting this information into his district. We want to run informational TV ads, but thus far lack the bucks to do so.

Boot Murtha's rally just finished up about an hour ago out in Johnstown, PA. Reports in to me (I'm the webmaster for BootMurtha.com) are that we had more turn out for ours than Murtha had turn out for his the day before.
Also reported to me: the people who live there in Johnstown think Murtha will NOT win re-election. It's interesting that there are no polls published to show how people in Murtha's district really think/feel. Well, now we have heard first-hand from the people in Murtha's hometown. And the consensus is: Murtha's not going to be re-elected.

I'm looking around for the 'latest', but can't find anything yet. There have to be some FReepers here who know where those thingys reside, s.
Rasmussen, Zogby etc are too slanted to the left, so I'd take them with less than a grain of salt. I really don't know where to look for an 'unbiased' poll, s. If you find one, pls ping me.

hey man, I'm from Florida, tell it to every voter in your state you can.
Hell, act like a democrat and tell it to dead folks and insane and criminals and folks to young to "legally"vote.
Murtha's a puke.

You know it, I know it... but the voters in Murtha's own district do not necessarily know it. Help me out here - can I, as a private citizen, pay for a bulk mailing to his constituents of the details of the case Murtha lied about? These kind of things can backfire so it has to be done right, but I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is if someone can educate me in these matters.

Here's FEC law on it: if the cost of any effort on behalf of or against a candidate exceeds $10,000 it must be reported to the FEC as an Independent Expenditure.
What's involved cost-wise to do such a mailing? First you need to get the addresses to mail to. That means purchasing mailing lists (probably $5,000 or more to get PA District 12). Then there's the cost to print and mail your message.
So, those are the basics.
