Stephanopoulos to Murtha: "Democrats are worried about your leadership"
Congressman John Murtha was questioned this morning by Sunday morning talk show host George Stephanopoulos regarding his announcement Friday that he is again campaigning for House Majority Leader. Stephanopoulos said Democrats are worried about his leadership. The reason? Murtha's questionable ethics. Stephanopoulos cited ABSCAM and tens of millions of Defense contract dollars going to the KSI lobbying firm of Murtha's brother as reason for Democrats' concern. Murtha responded that he was 'cleared of all charges" in the ABSCAM case; and his brother's millions were acquired ethically. "Everything we do in our office is by the book," said Murtha. Does Murtha play by the book? Hardly
House ethics rules require members to report any bribe offers immediately to the FBI. Murtha was offered a $50,000 bribe in 1980. Did he report it? No. He lied: "I did not consider that any money was offered." Murtha, 1980 [LINK] Last Friday, Sept. 29th, Murthas 26-year lie abruptly ended the same day the full 54-minute FBI sting surveillance tape hit the internet. Appearing on CNNs Wolf Blitzers show that night, Murtha made this admission of guilt: "They offered me $50,000." [LINK to transcript] Twenty-six years ago, that admission would have brought charges against him. Twenty-six years ago, that truth would have ended his political career. Murthas 26-years-late admission of bribery knowledge changes everything. It shows he does not play by the book not in 1980 and not now. It redefines him as a guilty, crooked politician who escaped prosecution -- not because of his innocence but because: 1.) he lied; 2.) he cowardly cut a deal to squeal. (can you say, "cut and run"?) In 1980, Murtha convinced then House Ethics Committee member Don Bailey he had voluntarily informed the FBI about the bribe. The duped Bailey, in turn, convinced (barely) the Committee not to file charges against Murtha. Murtha then escaped federal prosecution by cutting a deal to give sworn testimony against another congressman in exchange for charges being dropped by the grand jury.-- [LINK] [LINK] For 26 years Murtha has not told the full truth about being cleared of all charges. He was not innocent of wrong doing in the ABSCAM FBI sting. He escaped charges because he squealed and lied. That's not playing by the book -- that's just plain crooked. Congressman John Murtha is a crook. Just how big of a crook is Congressman Murtha? Independent, liberal watchdog organization CREW lists John Murtha as one of the most corrupt members of Congress. [LINK] And the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Murthas campaign used a government Veterans Affairs Office in the Westmoreland County Courthouse to promote and arrange the bussing of veterans to his political rally, held Sept. 30th in Johnstown, PA. [LINK ] Crooked. Thats Congressman John Murtha. Given these facts, what remains to be seen is whether the voters of PA district 12 will choose to return their crooked congressman to Washington, D.C. this Nov. 7th. |

It would be hard to play his voice in neighborhoods because of his profanity, but I am a hardened vet with many years of active duty service and I despise profanity. His constant use of GD was extremely offensive to me, and I believe if it could be played without exposing children to it, the point would be made.
His crudeness is the equivalent to the street thugs use of MF.

Give yourself some more medals, desk-jockey asswipe You nailed it. This bumbling old fool has been a desk jocky asswipe all of his life. I read the transcript of his ABSCAM conversation. He is as corrupt as they come and he disgusts me.

The following exchange occured about twelve minutes into the tape and continued without stop for the almost hour of the tape.
"MURTHA: You can buy insurance if you want to. But I'm gonna tell you somethin'. To me, insurance is investing in my goddamn district... and doing this goddamn, you know this, this is, to me, a big goddamn insurance policy is doing business in my district. And I'm gonnna tell you something, there's an article in the [Philadelphia] Bulletin the other day, you might have seen it Howard, "Jack Murtha Deals in the District," and that's right. You know, and I want, I want this guy to spend money in my district. I want this connection in my goddamn district. I'm delighted to do business with him, and do every goddamn thing I can within bounds, you know, so I don't get myself in jail, in order to get him into the country and whatever needs to be done. But I've I gotta know uh...the details, and when I say the details I've got to know when he wants to come, I've got to know how many in the family, I've got to know, you know, a lot of goddamn things. Then I can check into it, I can tell you exactly if you're throwing your goddamn self away. Or you're...uh --

Thanks for the info - I just find it hard to believe that I need to pay $5,000 for the mailing addresses of people in a specific area. You would think that this would be public information to facilitate the 'democratic process'.
Anyone else out there with more info?

Murtha responded that he was 'cleared of all charges" in the ABSCAM case;I didn't do it! Nobody saw me do it! You can't prove anything ...

Did you watch the 50-minute FBI tape?
Murtha should still be in prison, IMO.

I just returned from the "Boot Murtha" rally in Johnstown {where everything is named after john murtha}. The rally had between 1200-1500 patriots many great guest speakers and zero politicians. Irey was prevented by law from attending {thank you john mcpain} but it was a roaring event. The speakers included Gregg Garvey {his son Justin was killed in Iraq}, Earl Johnson {survivor of the North Tower}, John Wroblewski {his Marine son also killed in Iraq}, Terry Pennington {son is one of the Marines in brig in Pendleton} and David Beamer {son Todd ... Let's Roll}. Local talk show hosts Quinn and Rose and several others.
There were more tears than at an Italian wedding {or funeral}. Me too.
I stopped at a local pub to get a sense of the local folks and they are all behind murtha. While many expressed disagreement with his statements, they know he is a real porker. Sad but true. He will be tough to beat.

Murthat really is an idiot. By answering the way he did he has now put the past in play. As unindicted co-conspirator he was far from cleared.

From my county's registrar you can get a database of voters and their addresses for a particular congressional district for (last time I checked) under $1K. I wouldn't bother with a general mailing list; you don't care about anyone who isn't a registered voter anyway.
You'll still need someone with computer skills to turn it into mailing labels, or perhaps there are services out there (I always used to do it myself).

I should add that my registrar will put the list on CD in a form readable by Microsoft Access. I imagine other registrars will do the same. Also, contact your local Republican Party organization. They must have that data already, and if you tell them you want to do your own mailing against Murtha, they might give you a free copy.

I'm working for Diana Irey (12th district), way over here in the 19th district, JB.
I wish I lived there, so I could actually vote, instead of just donating money, and calling residents on lists.
We've got to get that treasonous, seditious, phony SOB outta there, IMO.
I lived in Coral Gables for 4 yrs, after Nam, in the early 70s. Great living... I envy you.

I think little George is running interference for Steny Hoyer. Murtha, if he survives the general election, is slated to take on Steny for the House "Majority" leadership post. Steny Hoyer is the minority whip and was allied with loco poco dicko Gephardt in the House. Little georgie worked for Gephardt before he became an apologist for clinton.

!200-1500. Is that a pretty solid number? If so, the Murtha rally yesterday is very small in comparison.
