Those photos are amazing! Those poor Venezuelans! Here they are signing a petition to George Bush apologizing for the thug who's got his jackboot on their country. It's not strictly necessary, it's very sweet. We must stand shoulder to shoulder with these brave Venezuelans.

The mainstream media won't do a darn thing to cover this rather large rally on our own shores. But let 12 chavistas get together and make a stink and the media is all ears.

Excellent, I am splattering it all over too, I can't believe this didn't get out, it's highly topical and unexpected. We gotta stick up for Venezuela's freedom lovers.

I hope Hugo doesn't go after any of the signers. What a brave thing to do. I really feel for these people and hope they win freedom from Hugo. His has been talking of changing the law so he can be president for a longer period of time.

Chavez vowed to win the December 3 vote and continue governing this South American nation until 2021. "Fourteen more years, that's what's coming," Chavez said.

Venezuela's Constitution allows a president to be re-elected only once in immediate succession. If Chavez wins a second six-year term in December, he wouldn't be able to run again in 2012—without a legal change.CHRISTOPHER TOOTHAKER

I would hesitate to get too high on the "freedom loving" Venezuelans protesting. These are by and large the oligarchs and fellow travelers that screwed up the country to begin with.

I'm no Chavez supporter, and I do NOT feel the country is better off now with him. But monsters like Chavez don't happen in a vacuum. They happen because elitist, greedy morons use power to enrich themselves at the expense of their country. And then they flee to Miami when they screw things up and wait for Uncle Sam to make it better.

Let's think about Mexico for a minute. Same system. Monied elite running things with the support of a small professional class. Massive poverty in a rich country by international standards. Why are their people leaving in droves with the encouragement of the government?

Mexico almost elected a leftist president (Obrador?) this year who showed every sign of being another Chavez. Imagine all the rats leaving that sinking ship showing up here as honored guests whining about "democracy"?

Why would a corrupt government mean that no one from Venezuela loves freedom? That makes no sense at all.

And these people were in New York.........probably because they love freedom.

btw, welcome to FR.....

This is encouraging. Thankfully BDS hasn't infected the whole world....just the parts the media chooses to cover.

Thanks for the welcome. As a lifelong resident of South Florida, I have a lifetime education in Latin American politics, as well as good many Latin American friends.

Certainly, some Latin Americans move to the U.S. because they love freedom. But just as likely, they move here for economic advantage if they are not part of the ruling clique, or because the ruling clique has fallen out of power.

Look at Cuba or Nicaragua. We got the ruling class displaced by communism long before the middle/working class followed.

The Columbian oligarchy is common here as well. They still maintain the home connections as long as they have the power, but their children live and are educated here. And they are ready to beat feet at a moment's notice.

Same with the Venezuelans. Lots of very wealthy ones around here, but they don't give a damn about our values. Just our stability. Correct me if I'm wrong, but unlike Central America, I haven't heard about Venezuelan peasants sneaking into the U.S. and protesting for freedom.

Latin America is a very dysfunctional culture with a rich white elite lording over a mestizo or mulatto minority. This is why they are vulnerable to populist demagogues like Chavez.

I've about had enough of the MSM in this country. All they ever report are negative stories about conservatives and Republicans, while covering up the dirt from the Ill-Liberals. I will not listen to their garbage any more. I will not buy their newspapers anymore. I think it is time to boycott the advertisers who support these mealy mouth idiots.

I guess I don't ascribe to your view of human nature, but rather to the President's.

I believe God gives us all the desire to be free, and regardless of caste systems or oligarchy, individuals long for freedom.

A dysfunctional culture notwithstanding, these Venezuelans have done a wonderful thing in standing in support of President Bush, and that encourages me.

How dare you accuse those people of being 'oligarchs'? How the hell would you know? Listen up, Buster: Oligarchs don't take to the streets and protest, they sit in their smoking rooms and jet around to Paris. These are real Venezuelans fighting on the streets and apologizing to US for Hugo's abusiveness. How DARE you make ANY claim to knowing ANYTHING about them unless you are a Cuban Castro agent sent to spy on them? You don't belong on this board.

If you're so bright on all matters south Florida and claim to know more about them than any of us, how come you can't even spell Colombia or Colombian? Right away you give yourself away as a flaming leftist who's out to smear the Venezuelans who just happen to be making an impact that your Chavista masters are livid about. Your mask is off, you Cuban agent.

I feel the same way. I went and met some msm's at a conference Friday and was stunned at how biased and smug and leftwing they really were. They're much worse in person than in print. I'm done with them.

Yeah, they always know what is right (in their own minds anyway) and how things should be. I think that most of them suffer from narcissism.
