And it seems like yesterday they were christening CVN-76. [sniff]

Can't they just name all our aircraft carriers after Ronald Reagan?

Ironic, isn't it? Bush 41 is the one who started the big downward slide in defense spending, IIRC.

Well yes, but that was right after the fall of the Soviet Union. The long range plan then called for much lower levels of cuts than Slick 42 eventually put in, and that Bush 43 never reversed by building things back up, aside from a small increase in the Army, balanced by further cuts in the Air Force and Navy.

I think the Kennedy will go first. In the state she is in...she should IMHO. The Japanese shipyards have taken good care of the KH!

When does construction begin on the USS Clinton?

Every U.S. Navy ship has several USS Clinton's aboard.

They are called "heads".

"... I also did a tour on the JFK during my 20 year Navy career."

I worked on the JFK at Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. in 1968 during the final phases of construction and outfitting. Last of the non-nuclear U.S. carriers, I think.

I hope it's a floating VD and sexually transmitted disease treatment ship.

Now that would be a fitting ship to name for him. A US Navy Hostpital ship.

I was thinking the same thing ... but the Clinton needs to be a sub ... cigar shaped and full of seamen.

I doubt that the Kittyhawk will be far behind. Maintenance budgets are getting axed left and right to pay for Iraq.

They should neame the new class of carriers the Ronald Reagan class...but with CVN-76 already named for him...that's not going to happen.

Thanks Jeff.

I still think we need to start a campaign and get the first CVX to be named "Lexington" or "Langley" the second CVX MUST be named "Enterprise".
