The U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal Monday by evangelical Christian students and their parents who said a Contra Costa County school district engaged in unconstitutional religious indoctrination when it taught students about Islam by having them recite language from prayers.

We live in a small town. If that were tried here, the teacher would be very sorry, and so would the school board.

Likewise here, and this is Upstate NY. A health teacher tried to get some *progreessive* health activities or curriculum taught here and was soundly chasitised. Good to know there's still pockets of somewhat conservative thinking in some schools today.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but this sounds to me like the U.S. Government endorsing a specific religion. I guess the SCOTUS boys and girl don't know a REAL "unconstitutional" act when they see one. Reciting passages from Islamic prayers in school is teaching religion.

We call that a Halloween Party.

"Appeal on school's lesson in Muslim culture is rejected"

Yeah, Bush really stacked the Supreme Court with "conservatives". Have either Alito or Roberts, (who both decalared their Christian faith and morals would play no role in their decisions), made a decision yet that helps the conservative agenda?

"That way three different sets of prayers and memorizations from the Koran, Torah and New Testament"

No good, anything that promotes islamic teachings in public schools is bad for America.

It's heart breaking to see my country die right before my very eyes from self-inflicted wounds. The America of today has no resemblance to the America I grew up in, fought for, and loved. Men like President Bush are considered as "conservatives" today, but JFK and Harry Truman were more conservative than Bush. Those two men the President appointed to the Supreme Court are moderates, and that Court still leans to the left. It feels very much like the fight to maintain traditional American morals and values has ended, in defeat.

Teaching about a religion or culture is one thing. Having them recite prayers or pretend to be part of the culture by acting it out, is an entirely different matter.

"But I don't know what the court can really do about that - either this type of representation violates the separation of church and state, or it doesn't (as ruled)."

I know what they can do; pretend that the case before them concerned students who were forced to learn Catholic Church prayers in traditional Latin form; they'd have shot it down like clay pigeon. THE SCOTUS seats a bench full of one-dimensional bone heads, including the two middle-of-the-road moderates that Bush put there.

We should take lessons from the left. Organize a school "sit in" and have the children recite the Pledge of Allegience (under God) repeatedly. That should really tick off that court.

All the parents and students have to do is say no. There may be consequences but they can't be forced.

All I know is that this man, (below), is rejoicing over this great islamic victory in our own Supreme Court.

I will comment for yah:

Salat or the 5 daily prayers of Islam is the path of Islam ( submission).

It is the submission to G_D which creates a submissive population.

A democratic republic cannot survive if a majority of its citizens submit to a temporal, hierarchy with the Islamic G_D at its pinnacle.

The reason is simple. Our Republic is founded upon the principle that its citizens will vote according to the principles of informed logic and the principles of humanism which founded our nation: That there are self evident truths, that every human has unalienable rights, that cannot be traded or sold away, even by way of submission to a true G_D or a false one. That AMONG these rights are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Submission of Islamic proportions destroys the very foundation of the values of our nation, so accurately set forth in oour Declaration of Independence. The very name: "Independence" is poisonous to "submission" of the Islamic kind.

For this reason, the Salat, or Submission prayers of Islam should not be taught in our schools as "prayers" or an understanding of prayer. The true context of submission as the opposite of freedom must be taught in our schools , if our schools must have students recite the Salat of Islam.

As a patriot, among millions of patriots, I will never submit to the Salat or to Islam. I will not submit even to anyones idea of Independence. I simply celebrate the values of our nation, which are entirely the opposite of Islamic submission.

My G_D gave me the freedom to think, aa well as the self evident truths from which we celebrate our self governance.

Damn any school that moves to teach our students to recite the Salat prayer, and then lick the hands of our enemies.
