Reading the threads tonight and seeing the cross-links from the Foley staff to the Istook office, and the role of the Foley "page" in the Istook campaign, its beginning to look like there are two different layers/levels of Blackmail at work here.
The first level is the Blackmail perpetrated upon Foley's closeted-gay staffer, Fordham, by Rogers and John Aravosis of America’s Blog.
As has been documented by the macsmind blog, "both are gay activists who on many occasions have threatened not only Foley and Fordham with outing, but others as well. These guys are what we call “Political Thugs”, the only thing they don’t use is guns, but they do nearly as much damage. Others call it by it’s real name - blackmail."
The blackmail /"outing threat" letter they sent to Fordham, which is fairly overt in its blackmail intent, has been posted here on FreeRepublic, and it's intent is clear.
So -- when Brian Ross reports that an "intermediary" has provided documentation of Foley's misbehavior, and that the documentation was "provided" by a republican staffer, Ross (knowlingly) falsely implies that repubs are leaking the information and that the intermediary and the staffer are both republicans and working in concert.
Whereas -- the truth may well be that the operatives described above extracted that information from Fordham through extortion/threat/blackmail. THEY are the so-called "intermediary", and note that Ross conspicuously never offers or clarifies the political affiliation of the "intermediary".
So that's Blackmail Level 1. Now how would Level 2 work?
The intermediary, in the early stages of the blackmailing effort, receives from Fordham some Foley e-mails and starts to contact the pages addressed in the e-mails, and lo and behold discovers among the Foley pages an ambitious and cunning young man from U-Cal Berkeley, who has been described on other posts tonight. The young man is gay, as are the intermediaries.
The pieces begin to fall together for the blackmailers. The intermediary begins to see where the endgame can play out as an October surprise.
The intermediary wants to create the impression that Foley's office is performing political favors for the young ex-page, thereby deepening the scandal. At the same time, the young ex-page is ambitious and hustling to get a resume building job managing a real campaign.
The intermediary leans on Fordham to "make it happen", ie, that Foley's office needs to buy the page's silence by getting him the campaign manager job. It appears that the Foley office has strong links to the Istook office, so that's where the page was placed.
The page may not be fully aware of the leverage that was applied, but knows at a minimum that he has found, in the intermediaries, an "angel" that is making good things happen - and in return the page provides further salacious details to the intermediaries, tightening their grip on Fordham and Foley.
Finally, once the November ballot is set and Foley is effectively not replaceable on the ballot, the trap is sprung by the intermediary, who goes to Brian Ross at ABC to drop his bomb.
Ross, always ambitious himself, perhaps decides to up the ante by re-framing the story as not just a Foley matter, but a Hastert matter.
But that is creating a problem for his story -- the story is just too big now to stand up to scrutiny, and the ajamahadeen have been roused.
Thanks for that analysis. In the meantime the Istook campaign gets tanked. The same Istook who kept Clinton from getting his cushy office and having to settle for one in Harlem.
I think you're theory is very plausible. Maybe not exact, but in the right direction.
Geez I thought the Dems were the 'enlightened ones' when it came to treatment of gays?
It seems they are employing 'old school' political blackmail using sexual orientation as the key...

That's their PR. Fortunately, that group isn't as lockstep as blacks: between 1 in 4 and 1 in 5 self-identified gays voted for W in 2000 and 2004.
The lefty activists are all about "gotcha" politics. That means forced outing, revealing 30-year passed affairs (Henry Hyde), playing fast and loose with facts to make scandals out of thin air... for them to maintain or regain power it's always about their controlling and shaping perception such that it becomes reality even if it's contrary to the facts.
They can't seem to win on merit, but they're always willing to play dirty and defend one of their own, however atrocious, to the death.

Meanwhile, the identity and age of the IMer, Jordan Edmund, has been on Drudge since last night and none of the MSM are reporting it as far as I can tell. I'm waiting to hear ABC break the story.
If true that would demonstrate that Foley's own "gaydar" works. Bet he'd like to know that eh!
This former page, Tyson Vivyan, that they're trotting out on O'Reilly and Nancy Grace is an odd one, too. Prior to last night, it appeared as if Google had "wiped" him. But, they missed one, "Vivyan, Tyson," on a blackjack high score page, from a bar in Atlanta in 2004. The bar, Burkhart's Pub, is a gay bar.
I've read a fair number of replies from FReepers in OK who are of the opinion that Edmund's boss, Chip Englander, who is also from San Diego, is gay as well.
This would take a conspiracy, or a weekend at a townhouse on Capitol Hill ~ one of 'em where they're always hauling in new futons!
I just heard on Fox News an elementary school in Oklahoma City (I think it was) is in lock down after an unusual person was spotted. If you hear anything more please let us know.
Regardless of what is happening with the Foley thing, I don't think Istook was going to/or will beat Henry.
