Vanity: John Cougar's "Our Country" Chevy Commercial
Posted on 10/05/2006 1:48:52 PM PDT by slowhand520
Anyone else peeved as I am at this nonsense? I am assuming it is a patriotic song. The images you see during this commercial are Vietnam War protestors, the peace sign, Nixon waving goodbye before he gets on his helicopter, and Katrina flooding. What a depressing commercial. Kind of defeatist if you ask me. Thoughts?

Yes, believe it or not, it's supposed to create a patriotic pride in potential buyers...

Chevy wants to sell cars to Americans by bashing America?
Well, I guess if Ford wants to sell to gays Chevy can sell to Democrats.

Add "California burning" to that list of feel-good images.

John Couger is a leftist has been. No wonder GM is doing so poorly when it uses anti-American liberals in it commercials highlighting left wing attacks on our nation.

Reminds me of those stupid Bennetton ads (sp?).
They killed that clothing line.
And gimme a Jimmy any day. In fact I have one. 3/4 ton, full crew cab, will pull anything. Yeah.

I saw it - and was instantly revolted - the exact opposite type of response I assume Chevy is hoping for from an American car loyalist -

I hate that commercial, I also hate the ford commercial where the dad is "allowed" to spend the weekend with the family before the wife driving the ford drops him off at his house and drives away.

To: slowhand520
Mellencamp is a lib from way back. He seems to be saying that our country is full of nothing but failed military adventures, crooked Presidents, and indifference to Katrina victims.
Would not surprise me to see this as a video (with or without the Chevy logos) at the next Democratic convention.
If Chevrolet wants to get all patriotic, they should look at the Chrysler "The Pride is Back: Born in America" commercials again some time.
To: edzo4
OMG I hate that one too! They portray the father as a eunuch while the "tough" mom drives away.
To: edzo4
That Ford commercial is just weird, and doesn't give me a good feeling at all.

That commercial makes me want to puke! The Chevy commercial also sucks. Dodge does ok but their trucks suck imo. I own a GMC but Toyota's are made all over the U.S. might be time to try one on my next new truck and just go pick up and old Chevy to do the rough stuff.

I HATE that commercial too! I'm glad I'm not the only person who has noticed how revolting it is. Who the heck are they trying to reach with that ad, beaten down divorced dads? B*tchy ex-wives? (Not that the woman in the ad is so bad, but you know what I mean). I think it is the worst ad ever, I don't even know what car it is for.

Most people won't notice the symbolism . They will think it is a patriotic move by the Chevy people . I didn't even notice till saw the ad the second time and I am well aware he is a left wing wingnut.
