I had hoped Michael would have some reassuring words on how he thinks this will not hurt Republicans at the ballot box but he does not seem to do that. I wonder what his projections are now. A few weeks ago he thought they would maintain their majorities but by reduced margins.

In any case the big media/Democrat lie about the GOP covering up for pedophiles continues. The local rag paper had a cartoon by Nick Anderson, I think that's the name. Shows a Repub elephant getting hit by a brick that says "pedophilia is illegal." Duh. Foley was no pedophile, as far as we know.

That's one issue. The other issue -- the one that has to be addressed in the next couple of weeks -- is the dishonesty of withholding the key information while accusing opponents of a coverup. If we can get the public to understand this, the whole Foley thing will boomerang.

In many jurisdictions it the specifically requires anyone who has knowledge of crimes against children, or suspicion of such matters, to report it the authorities. I would think that anyone who knew of the sexually explicit IM's would fall under that law. Perhaps they knew all along the IM's had not been sent to anyone who was either currently a page or under the 18, but knew if they presented the information with the proper spin everyone would jump to the conclusion that Foley had been engaging in overtly illegal behavior. Looks to me like Foley was pretty careful to not run afoul of the letter, if not the intent, of the law. Foley certainly has no to blame but himself for the pickle he's in, and a lot of people have every right to be very angry with him for engaging in behavior that while strictly legal would reflect poorly indeed on the House.

The very nature of the problems they were trying to handle regarding Foley made it an sure lose-lose situation. I can think of no way they could have done it that wouldn't have left them open to criticism by one or more of the parties involved.

Sorry but rumor and innuendo is not actionable. The Leaderhsip did look into the emails. The emails in themselves are not actionable. LIKE it or not there IS a certain amount of risk in life. You cannot go arrest someone because you are uncomfortable with something they did. You actually have to have SOME proof of something. The Emails are indicative of a problem but they had no proof to work from.

People need to keep in the fore front of their minds the difference between IMS and emails. NO one knew beyond ABC News, Foley and the 18 year old knew about the IMS until 2 weeks ago

This Foley crap is nothing but meaningless nonsense and noise. He resigned. He is under investigation. He will be prosecuted. Meanwhile the REAL important stuff is not being talked about so the Junk Media drama queens can hyperventilate about a complete NON issue and divert attention off the Democrats complete lack of anything that even looks like a sane idea of a plan for our future.

You tax bill, the War on Terrorism, the Border, your kids future, NSA bill pending in front of Congress, Judges, Spending, Jobs and the Economy, ALL the real issues that the next Congress will have to deal with will STILL be here and need a resolution a month from now when NO one even remembers Foley's name. Voters are going to be thinking about that not the crap in the Junk News media.

CREW has posted the emails it sent to the FBI (which are redacted like the FBI claims) and there are interesting tidbits for the timeline. These email refer to the 2005 contacts with the Page from Louisianna whose family has asked ther media to stay away.

First off, the emails between the Page and the House Staffer were sent on August 31, 2005! Yes folks, last year. Supposedly this is from the Page to an unknown Staffer (democrat?) who was the intermediary for passing the emails to the news media. So we know the Congressional staffer held these for a year and never told the FBI or House leadership.

Second, the Fax was made on May 29, 2006. This would imply the Fax to CREW was almost a year later than the tip to the staffer. But CREW also held onto these for 2 months until they provided them to the FBI on July 21. Obviously they did not rush these to the FBI like they claimed.

I've heard about the August 31,'05 date before and it doesn't make sense to me. Wasn't that only a day after Katrina hit? I don't remember but it just seems too close to the event for Foley to be emailing the kid. I was under the impression the emails were later.

Update: I should also note another problem. The only Foley email to the Page with a date visible is the first contact on July 29, 2005 - before Katrina obviously. And about Katrina. Katrina hit land on August 29th. These emails with the Page and the Staffer are on August 30th and 31st? The district this Page is from is the 5th District of LA, which is the upper east half of the LA “boot” top. But my recollection was massive power problems at this time. So was the Page in Louisianna? Why are the dates all blacked out the on the Foley emails? Do they not jive with the first email’s date of 8/31/05?

My recollection from when this all broke is that Foley's first contact with the LA boy was to see how the kid came through Katrina. My memory could be faulty.

Do we have a reliable time line for the emails or have they been altered to the point of making it too difficult to pin down?

Also, for the IMs, am I correct in my understanding that the contact we are certain of is that of Jordan Edmund and he was 18 at the time? The other allegations are unsubstantiated and may or may not involve minors.
