The Greenwald connection

Posted on 10/07/2006 11:02:45 AM PDT by Raebie

Is there a connection among all of these Greenwalds?? The first 2 are rabid liberals. The third was soliciting pages for a television show on pages. Seems very coincidental to me.

Glenn Greenwald (Huffington Post contributor)

For the past 10 years, Glenn Greenwald was a litigator in New York with a practice focused on, among other areas, constitutional law and First Amendment challenges. He now litigates only periodically, devoting the bulk of his time to various writing projects and authoring the blog, Unclaimed Territory.

Greenwald is the author of a forthcoming book on the radical theories of executive power embraced by the Bush Administration. The book is entitled How Would a Patriot Act? Defending American Values from a President Run Amok , and will be released on May 15, 2006.

Robert Greenwald (Huffington Post contributor)

Robert Greenwald is a producer, director and political activist. Greenwald is the director/producer of “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price” (2005), a documentary that uncovers the retail giant's assault on families and American values and "Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism" (2004). He also executive produced a trilogy of political documentaries: "Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election" (2002); "Uncovered: The Iraq War" (2003), which Greenwald also directed; and "Unconstitutional" (2004).

BRAVE NEW FILMS, Greenwald's new media company, is working on producing films that will influence the debates about the most important issues of the day.

For his political work, Greenwald has received the Liberty Hill Foundation’s Upton Sinclair Award and Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE)’s City of Justice Award. He has also been honored by the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, the Los Angeles chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Office of the Americas.

In addition to his documentary work, Greenwald has produced and/or directed more than 50 television movies and miniseries for every major network and cable company. Greenwald also produced and directed the feature film, "Steal This Movie," starring Vincent D'Onofrio as 60's radical Abbie Hoffman, as well as "Breaking Up," starring Russell Crowe and Salma Hayek.

Greenwald's films have garnered 25 Emmy nominations, four cable ACE Award nominations, two Golden Globe nominations, the Peabody Award, the Robert Wood Johnson Award, and eight Awards of Excellence from the Film Advisory Board. He was awarded the 2002 Producer of the Year Award by the American Film Institute.

Greenwald is also the co-founder (with Danny and Victor Goldberg) of RDV Books, as well as the co-founder (with Mike Farrell) of "Artists United," a group of actors and others opposed to the war in Iraq, which continues to work toward publicizing progressive causes. Greenwald also has lectured at Harvard University for the Nieman Fellows Foundation for Journalism.

Laura Greenwald

Janet and Laura Greenwald are one of the only mother/daughter writing teams in the entertainment industry. After starting in production on "Perfect Strangers" and "The Hogan Family" they began working on films for Emmy winning Sunbreak Digital Multimedia, writing for publications including Screen Magazine and The Tolucan, and finally began creating and writing original television and motion picture projects. Bringing a unique two-generational voice to their work, Janet and Laura are currently developing and pitching their original one-hour series and features including "Capitol Hill", "Unresolved Acts", "Reach for the Stars", "Hidden Agenda" and "Without Consent". When Jan's mother Elaine suddenly passed away in a Chicago hospital, the writing team's focus changed, as they tried to piece together the truth behind what had happened to her. Besides discovering that her death had been caused by massive medical negligence, Jan and Laura found out that the hospital had waited over six days to get in touch with them to tell them Elaine had been hospitalized, making them unable to make it back to Chicago in time to be at her side. Just a few hours after the hospital finally told them she was in critical condition, Elaine died unnecessarily alone. After uncovering a loophole in the laws which regulate the notification of the next of kin of hospital patients, they began to research the handful of notification statutes that existed in other states. Then with help of legislators in Illinois and California, created, wrote, lobbied for and enacted the Next of Kin Law. Jan and Laura are currently working with Congressional Representatives including Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. to enact a federal version of the law (HR2560), which was introduced in May of 2005. When hospitals clamored for help complying with the new law, the mother and daughter team joined forces with medical experts to establish the non-profit Next of Kin Education Project. The project's free downloadable "Make Your Family Safer in 15 Minutes or Less Action Plan, is safeguarding millions of families nationwide, during disasters or medical emergencies, thanks to the Project's sponsors. Bobby Jindal seems to be keeping rather poor company here.

I believe so and I think she's married to Matt Cooper and a friend of Hillary. Don't know if there is a connection.

I am not sure that the female Greenwalds are the same as the ones who suggested a page TV show, but the names are the same (Laura G mentioned her writing parter Jan, but with no last name, leading me to conclude it was also Greenwald). The list of works they've done seem similar to the page theme - Without Consent, Capital Hill. I wonder what the questionaire said?
