GOP Firing Back?
IBD ^ | Oct. 13, 2006 | IBD

As Democrats refuse to let up on former Rep. Mark Foley, some Republicans are returning fire. But they'll have to do a lot more fighting back if they want to win on Election Day.

Time and again Democrats prove themselves to be ferocious street fighters, especially in campaign season. When they get hit, they instinctively hit right back.

For instance, it was more than 15 years ago that Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., was reprimanded for violating House rules to help his "roommate" Stephen Gobie, who was running a male prostitution service out of Frank's Washington apartment.

Democrats didn't make Frank resign, which Foley did instantly. And they certainly didn't cower or become paralyzed.

The brazen, unapologetic Frank remains in Congress, and will become chairman of the House Financial Services Committee if the Democrats gain control.

But lately, we must say, the GOP has been showing some grit:

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., gave it to his possible 2008 presidential foe, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., after she blamed North Korea's nuclear test on the Bush administration.

I have noticed that, sometimes they seem to forget to publish the article...(which seems like the major problem)

Months ago Rush Limbaugh said that he hopes it's not true but it appears that the white house totally depends on his show and others on Talk Radio to get out their message rather than have their own attack machine. Rush said, if true, it's a big mistake on their part.

I'm beginning to think that they don't have the 'nads to do so.

Beginning? I cant recall the last time they fought back effectively. They let the MSM set the agenda and they go on defense. One of the best things they can do in the next couple weeks is take on the obvious bias they recieve when they are on these cable and Sunday shows, putting the talking heads in their place.

I'm not holding my breathe though.

Basically that's what The Great One said today also when asked by a caller "why aren't the pubbies fighting back"? He said why should they, we're doing it for them.

I expected a little better answer but he's probably saying it as it is.

They could have been out there thursday and friday making public Reid's shady deal...it may have replaced Foley during the sunday talk shows.

Sunday night is another anti-republican 60 minutes book.

That will be the talk of the town most of next week if the liberal media has its way. And they probably will.

I think Tony Snow has changed all that.

Republicans try to fight Dems, and the MSM buries the news.

One Republican makes one retort and that's it. The Republicans have no coordinated game plan. Democrats find some filth and plaster it in the media for weeks. We wimper and moan and just take it.

The Republicans have no coordinated game plan

Exactly. It's a shame. No excuse for it. No reason this election should be as close as it is now.

The DBM won't drive by in the case of Harry Reid. The story will be pushed only when they determine that it is sufficiently damaging. They won't just throw it out there and repeat it over and over to see if anything sticks the way they did with Foley.

The more we learned of the Foley case, the less incriminating it was in that Foley seemed to hold off on the raunchy stuff until the (former) pages were 18 years old. If Brian Ross knew that in the beginning, he conveniently buried it to ensure that the story would be as salacious and damaging as possible.

And they probably will.

Yup. Amazing how we know what needs to be done and they dont. It looks like they've given up already.

By they way - we love skiing @ Saddleback in Maine - great family mountain.

Republicans need to have platform to run on instead of just ducking for cover from the pointing fingers of Dems.

Leadership!

Lower taxes, control borders,Let our Soldiers do thier job, ETC!

Stop trying to make nice with the MSM.

Jab, Jab, Jab...The Dems are soft on terrorism and have no plan..jab: they will raise your taxes on all income groups and will undo the tax reforms that have benefitted millions of families: they want to eliminate the estate tax so that once again the mom and pop businesses will have to be liquidated rather than passed on; they want to eliminate the $2500 Child Tax Credit....Jab: they have no plan on Korea..Cut and run is not a plan...Jab: they criticize a pubbie congressman for a major indiscretion while their House Speaker is making a million $ profit three years after he sold the land ! Dem speaker says he'll just amend his filing. That doesn't resolve the crime !Then same House Speaker calls on pubbies House Speaker to resign over whether he knew or didn't know about the other congressman's indiscretion!..Jab: the Dems would rather leave a dictator in office than help free a country from oppression, then they turn around and cry about 'human rights' ...Jab: Sandy Berger steals files and destroys documents and admits it. Dems are silent !..Mad ALLbright loses 2 Laptops containing national security information...Dems: silence...HRH Hillary says she has the answers--at the next news conference...NO PLAN...Dems cannot win on hot air and fumes..They are out of gas..no plans..no vision..Knock 'em out on election day !

Democrats didn't make Frank resign, which Foley did instantly. And they certainly didn't cower or become paralyzed.

AND THAT IN A NUTSHELL IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE PARTIES.

THE REPUBLICANS MAKE THEIR CROOKS QUIT WHEN THEY GET CAUGHT.

THE DEMOCRATS SAY 'SHOVE IT' AND REVEL IN THEIR CORRUPTION.

My response to the Foley thing is pretty brief:

When the news came out about Foley no Republican supported Foley and Foley resigned immediately. Unlike what the Democrats did when a president abused an intern in the oval office and assaulted other women. Unlike what the Democrats did when a queer member of Congress had sex for hire running out of his house. Unlike what the Democrats did when a Senator and former KKK member said the word "ni**er" on national TV. Unlike what the Democrats did after a drunken US Senator left a woman to drown to death after he ran his car off a bridge.

The Republicans have never said that they have better "values" than the Democrats They don't have to. It's as obvious as the roaring silence you hear from millions of humans that have been aborted.

Sure, the Republicans are not perfect. But would any thinking American want the Democrats to protect this country in time of war when the Democrats will stand by silently or even support sexual abusers, queers, racists, drunks and murders in their own party?

In retaliation Hillary! and Co. swiftboats McCain ...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1719306/posts

Privately, Hillary’s camp was not overly upset by the McCain swipe because it suspected he was doing the bidding of the White House and that he ended up, as one adviser put it, “looking similar to the way he did on those captive tapes from Hanoi, where he recited the names of his crew mates.”
