Former page Jordan Edmund had dinner in California with U.S. Rep. Mark Foley in 2002 and then went briefly to the congressman’s hotel room, the ex-page’s attorney confirmed Friday.
“Nothing untoward happened. It was social chitchat,” attorney Stephen Jones said from Enid.
Edmund was then 17, in high school and living in Carlsbad, Calif.
Edmund, now 21, is among the teenage, male former pages who allegedly received sexually explicit Internet messages from Foley, a Florida Republican.
Foley resigned Sept. 29 after ABC News confronted him about the graphic instant messages.
Foley, 52, has since admitted through an attorney that he sent inappropriate messages but said he never had sex with a minor. Foley also confirmed publicly that he is gay.
The FBI is investigating Foley. FBI agents interviewed Edmund for more than two hours Tuesday in Oklahoma City. Edmund was a page from September 2001 to June 2002.
When the scandal broke, Edmund had been living in Oklahoma City for months and helping in the gubernatorial campaign of U.S. Rep. Ernest Istook, R-Warr Acres. Jones said Tuesday that Edmund hopes to be active in the campaign again “as soon as things calm down.”
Agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement also want to question Edmund, Jones said Friday. That interview may take place this month.
The revelation of the Foley-Edmund 20-minute hotel meeting was first reported by CBS News.
“His mother had set a curfew, and he had to leave and get home for his parents’ curfew. That’s why it didn’t last very long,” Jones told The Oklahoman.
“Jordan waited for him ... down in the hotel lobby,” Jones said. “They walked to some place nearby for a quick meal, an hour. They walked back to the hotel, visited ... for 20 minutes or so.”
Jones has declined to disclose what Edmund told FBI agents. He told The Oklahoman, though, the former page has “told investigators” about the meeting.
Jones said Foley and Edmund only saw each other twice after Edmund left the page program. Jones said the second time the two “met down in the House cafeteria” for a snack when the former page returned to Washington.
“There was some function going on. ... He stopped by several congressmen’s offices and Foley was in,” Jones said.
Jones told The Oklahoman earlier the former page and Foley had never been together privately. He said Friday he had been mistaken.
The attorney said again that Foley and Edmund never had any physical involvement. “This guy is not gay,” he said of Edmund.
Foley traveled to Dana Point, Calif., which is near Carlsbad, on Sept. 20-21, 2002, his financial disclosure statement shows. The trip was paid for by Jackson National Life Insurance Co. Jones said he is “fairly positive” that is when the congressman and Edmund met.
ABC News published online excerpts of Foley’s alleged messages. In one, Foley wrote, “I miss you lots since san diego.” Jones said he did not know if that was sent to Edmund.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a “preliminary inquiry.” House Speaker Dennis Hastert asked Florida’s governor to “direct the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to conduct an investigation of Mr. Foley’s conduct with current and former House pages to determine to what extent any of his actions violated Florida law.”
Edmund also is expected to appear eventually before the U.S. House Ethics Committee.

This revelation flies in the face of the IM and e-mail facts.
In one of the IM's Foley was asking Edmund's age and he responded "I'll be 18 in november".
The IM was dated 2004, but according to this story Foley knew Edmund a year (2003) before the e-mails and nearly 2 years before asking his age.
So why wouldn't Foley have know his age before the IM chat?
Seems as tho the 'truth' is being stretched, just a little.

So WHO saved and passed out the email???? Foley or the former page???? Questions that seem never to get asked, and never get told.
IF neither passed out the email then how do we know they exist???
