WHY DOESN'T JACK WANT TO DEBATE? REASON NUMBER 21: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HE'S VOTED HIMSELF 12 CONSECUTIVE PAY RAISES
Monday, October 16, 2006
(MONONGAHELA, October 16) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's refusal to meet with her to debate the issues -- today released this statement:
"Why is Jack Murtha scared to debate me? Two leading newspapers in our district -- the Washington Observer-Reporter, and Jack Murtha's own hometown newspaper, the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat -- have now urged him to debate. Several TV stations have offered to air the debate, so that the public can tune in for themselves and see the contrasting visions we have. And the League of Women Voters has offered to sponsor and set up the debate.
"Yet Jack Murtha refuses. His official response was, 'My record's out there for everyone to see I've done it the same way all the time.'
"Of course, Jack Murtha is counting on the fact that everyone in the district thinks he's the same old Jack Murtha they always knew. But we know otherwise. As I've pointed out before, if you think the Jack Murtha of 2006 is the same Jack Murtha you've been supporting for the last three decades, you don't know Jack -- and for proof, you can visit YouDontKnowJack.org to read up on the Jack Murtha you never knew.
"As I said last week, the only reasonable conclusion one can reach is that Jack Murtha is flat-out scared to debate me. He knows I will hold him accountable for his record, and for his behavior as our Congressman. And he knows that debating me would be a sure-fire loser for his campaign.
"But just because Jack Murtha is scared to debate me doesn't mean the voters of the 12th District should be denied the information they would have received had Jack Murtha been willing to meet to discuss the issues. So today, and for the remaining days of this campaign, I will offer one reason per day why Jack Murtha is scared to debate me. There are 21 days left to campaign, so I will offer 21 reasons.
"Reason #21 that Jack Murtha is scared to debate me: he doesn't want anyone to know that HE HAS VOTED HIMSELF TWELVE CONSECUTIVE PAY RAISES."

The Irey/Murtha ping list will update this thread each day with a link to the "Reason Of The Day", and then ping the list so those on it can return to this thread.
Let's keep this thread going 'til Election Day by posting to it or bumping it daily!!!
She should hold a debate with out him. Just put up an empty suit Large of course and show video clips of some of the despicable things he has said and done.
Donated from afar & hoping for the best. She is one spunky lady! Keep us informed on her progress.
Are you guys going to have a special thread on election day? Can you put me on a ping list. This race is special to me.
That's a great idea AI. She has to do something provocative at this point to get some press attention in a place other than FR.
She is some woman and would be a great leader on the national stage. I hope this race is the first of many that launches her career in Washington.
PING! "Reason of the Day"
Let's keep this thread going 'til Election Day by posting to it or bumping it daily!!!
Hire Michael Moore to stand in for Murtha in the debate. One bloated fat bloviating leftist traitor standing in for another bloated fat bloviating leftist traitor.
You are now a proud member of the IREY/Murtha ping list, Kay. :-)
Brilliant!! Someone should advise her about that idea.
bttt
Murtha "Cut N Run in IRAQ! Cut N RUN in debate!"
Thanks. Occasionally, the gray matter serves it purpose.
Ummm....because he's a cut-n-run liberal coward?
Murtha won't debate as long as his handlers tell him he has a double-digit lead, whether he actually does or not. Bet on it.
BINGO!
Thanks. Any word on grass roots turn out -- e.g. absentee ballots? Is Diana walking the streets, visiting flea markets, shopping malls, fruit stands, and the public squares?
We havn't discussed a special Election day thread at this point, it could well be this very thread, but now that you are on the IREY/Murtha ping list, we will do our best to keep you up-to-date!!!!
She has been very active in the district and has attended many functions in the months since announcing her running in March. Her campaign has had upwards of a thousand volunteers talking to people one on one.
I love how Murtha uses the excuse "the way I have done it all the time", ....
I betcha he has said at least once or twice that President Bush needs to not do things the same in Iraq...."time for a change" and all that rhetoric.
So....President Bush is the ONLY one required to do things different in your book, congressman???
BTTT
This alone is enough to run with. Murtha says no matter what he's done, he'll do it again... logically, that means he'll solicit bribes (Abscam) and slander our soldiers (Haditha) again if given the opportunity.
Bump
WOOHOO! I was counting down the days on my calendar but this thread is a better idea. Hope it's a place us out-of-staters can stay up to date on campaign events.
It is possible that Murtha doesn't know his support is dwindling or that he knows he is in trouble but has calculated a debate as counter productive, but typically the #1 reason not to debate is you have the lead and you don't want to lose it. It does not bode well that Murtha is refusing to debate.
Thanks....do you have the Mailing address to contribute directly to Dianas campaign?
Here you go and thanks for your support.

Big bump, Rob.
If Murtha refuses to debate Ms. Irey it only shows to me that he does not believe in his own stance. If he did, he would proudly debate her. Then I could respect him, even if I did not agree with him. He's quite sleezy.
The babbling Congressman from PA's 12th District was just shown in a clip on Hannity & Skeleton. Tubby was sputtering incoherently about Abu Ghraib and the old coot could barely complete a sentence and looked like he was going to break down and cry at any moment. I think Diana Irey is getting to Murtha big time!
Murtha doesn't know jack!!!
Whenever I see him now, he reminds me of the old boxer who refuses to quit the ring, always hoping for the comeback, never realizing his time has past.
With the old boxers, it's sad to see. It's too bad Murtha isn't just an old boxer, it would be better for all of us.
I know what you mean about him getting wound up and somewhat incoherent. I've commented before on his possible mental state but I believe he's got a definite problem with high blood pressure or something similar, his face gets red and he seems flustered or confused. He doesn't look healthy.
Here's hopin' Irey wins!!

Thank you for your support, it is greatly appreciated.
D'oh! Should have said, "I'm betting that Murtha is going to feel LIKE Sonny Liston this November." (For you youngsters--LISTEN UP, JUSTA--Sonny Liston is the one on the canvas.)
After Murtha has his Sonny Liston moment, hopefully he'll throw in the towel.
And as for the former Casius Clay, well, he shoulda done the same a bit later himself.
Old boxers, go figure.
Diana is quite the lady. I doubt street walking is her thing. ;*)
She did attend a pig roast yesterday. It was held at the end of the "John P Murtha Highway to Nowhere"
No kidding.....it looks just like this. I think there will be photos soon.
Diana gave an informal talk and was well received by all those in attendence.
One couple brought their WWII veteran uncle with them. He was so excited to meet Diana. He snagged a small bouquet of Red/White/Blue flowers that were adorning the tables to have when he met her.
Diana graciously posed for pictures with him and his tired, but gorgeous blue eyes opened wide and were sparkling. His smile said all that needed to be said.
His nephew and his wife said their uncle had been so excited about meeting her. He told me, paraphrasing, she needs to beat that fat old b-turd. (I need to start writing these things down. I am pretty close to a direct quote though.) It was a beautiful day and the pork and fixings were wonderful!
Only one will claim the VICTORY! ;*)
Thanks for the report, Justa! That highway must be the pride of the county! LOL!
Thanks for giving us a run down on the pig roast, Justa. Sounds like it was a big success.
My thanks also to the WWII veteran who was so thrilled to be there and meet Diana for his and all his brothers in arms for their service so long ago, they sacrificed a lot for all of us.
In a word.....YES! On January 20, 2001 all the rule books were thrown out, all traditions were put to rest, decorum went by the wayside, laws were thrown out the window, the Executive branch Constitutional authority ceased to exist.
The day President Bush took his oath of office, unbeknownst to him, or we the people, all things became passe and all rules, traditions, decorum, laws and authority became new, created solely for THIS President.
